Fair point. Maybe not a different car everywhere but certainly something faster than an SLS. Drivers have been complaining for years about the safety car being too slow to keep heat in the tyres and brakes.

I was wondering about that recently. Why does the safety car not look like an F1 car? It wouldn't have to be built for flat out speed like an F1 car and could be higher off the ground to avoid aquaplaning in the wet, but could go fast enough to keep the temperatures up.

Basically, you're suggesting they put a combustion engine in a Formula E car.

    This too shall pass.

The whole point of the Safety car is to slow the racecars down; Otherwise, nothing prevents the FIA to, say, use an F2 car as the safety car...however it wouldn't really be a "safety" device anymore, if they're lapping only 10-15 seconds slower than they normally would.

F1 drivers will complain about flies splatting on their visor, given the chance anyway :D

Well the other point of it is to bunch the cars together so the marshals can safely get on with removing the obstacle.

For the example if the lap is 1m30s and it’s extended by 10 seconds. It means the cars all pass the marshals in about about 20 seconds leaving the marshals 1m20 seconds of uninterrupted work until the next pass by the cars.

There must be a sweet spot. But in fairness it would be a big problem if cars were unable to break because they lost too much break temperature. But it’s not that much of a problem so probably doesn’t need to be changed.

Why are we talking about safety cars? Should we not be talking about the actual racing, like McLaren are up to 3rd in the constructors :P and a Honda engine got a car to 4th in a race :pac: and Red Bull are really struggling with the reliability of their cars and one of their drivers!

True enough. And Gasley might be the real deal! Honda finally got its act together. But the real test of Honda is whether Red Bull takes them as an engine supplier for next year. I’d be surprised if they do. Very big risk and Honda might only match Renault if they’re lucky.

Ah now, great result all the same but they are already down an engine for the season after just one race. Its progress, but the act isn't together just yet.

Ted Kravitz question to Seb about the Jackson 5 and ABC. ‘Australia, Bahrain and now China, can you do it?’ Jesus f*ckin wept. Glad I don’t have Sky.

Has Ch4 definitely lost F1 coverage next year, will it be only be pay per view ?

Yes. Shortly after the BBC gave the rest of their contract to Channel 4 it was announced that live coverage would be exclusive to Sky Sports from 2019, separately, but not unrelated, the then Setanta Sports announced they would be ending their F1 coverage from the end of 2018

    This too shall pass.

Will we still get highlights free to view?

Yes, and the British Grand Prix will be free to view but as yet we have no clue who will be providing these highlights.

    This too shall pass.

With sky you can get it pretty much for free if your willing to ring them once a year and tell them to cancel. Sky coverage is painful but the best if you want all races,
I generally record and fast forward anything that has Ted, Ant, DeRista and Johnnie Herbert in it, Simon Lazenby and Crofty are tough going too but mandatory as they are stuck in everything

Well C4 are definitely going out on a high.
Their team leave Sky in the halfpenny place all the time.
I'd rather pay for the C4 coverage any day.

Change it every now and again he’s like a broken record

This being F1 if he did change it from time to time people would probably complain that he's always changing it
