Thank you. My first had dropped much earlier so was just wondering.

I thought mine had dropped last week but seems to be sitting high again. I'm due 23rd. I think I have read that on 2nd or more pregnancies they drop later or not at all until labour starts.

It's mad how much you start reading in to changes/signs in your body during pregnancy isn't it? I don't think even as a selfconscious teenager did I focus so much on every lump/bump/twinge etc :-)

    Hey all,
Had a hosp apt yesterday and consultant noticed some light areas on the babys bowel during a scan. Also baby is measuring small so theyve decided to induce me. So nervous and dont know what to expect.

With regards to bump dropping and baby engaging generally this happens later on second and subsequent babies.

    Hope everyone is keeping well

Im back tomorrow to discuss things. Was so upset yday couldnt really take it all in. Havent been sleeping lately just the worry of it all. I had to have an operation at 13 wks pregnant so this pregnancy has been very worrying.

I had a good rest last night so feeling a bit more positive today and maybe induction wont be so bad. This is my 5th and never had one before. But was googling it and a sweep is an induction too. I had one of those before not knowing what it was so id be open to that. Kids are still on midterm so would be nice to have baby before they go back.

You poor thing Flo, sounds like you have been having a tough pregnancy. Please God you'll feel better after having a proper discussion about your options tomorrow and will feel better informed. Sorry to hear you have been having such a worrying time. Best wishes to you and your family.

Thanks history queen. Its just the final few weeks with the arrival impending that ive been worrying about any poss side effects to baby. Was only assured yday before the scan that its unlikely cos the op was done so early but then the scan showed up something and it was like everything came undone. Im so terrified of giving birth this time, just dont feel mentally prepared for it. Im so tired all the time dont think ive enough energy for it. But you tend to find it from somewhere. Dont want to frighten anyone. But the body is great at preparing you. I just maybe needed a few more days to focus.

If it makes you feel any better you sound like you are having a similar experience to my sister-in-law, she had to have her appendix removed early in her second pregnancy. From then on any symptom/comment/issue with her pregnancy that was different to her first caused her huge anxiety too as she kept wondering if the operation might have caused a problem. She too was induced for a finish... i think because of blood pressure issues, and I remember everyone being on a knife edge until we got word of the safe delivery of the baby *now a very energetic whirlwind of an 8 year old with a permanent smile on her face and constant bruised arms and legs from climbing trees and going on adventures as she says herself*. My sisterinlaw(SIL) was so happy after all the worry to see that all was well in spite of her fears.

I know it's not the same situation but just wanted to let you know that it is definitely normal to worry and wonder but the professionals are there with you so make sure to clarify your worries and fears as SIL says she didn't ask enough questions and so built up her fear as she was afraid to ask questions.

Anyways, you sound like a very practical person so I'm sure I'm not saying anything you don't already know! either way the very best of luck to you

Flo if it's in any way reassuring, I was induced on my first and this is how it went for me: I was brought in first thing in the morning on the Friday. They had done a sweep on me the day before. First thing they did on Friday was to insert a "pessary" which is sort of like a gel tampon. They leave that in for a bit then take it out. Then it's a waiting game to see if anything happens naturally. I think they can try up to two pessaries if the first doesn't work (neither of mine did). On Saturday, the next thing they did was to check if I was favourable for manual water breaking. I was and they did that Saturday lunch time ish. Now this is where my situation went a bit differently - I had pads on to soak up the waters (takes ages to come out completely) and noticed the water on the pads was a greenish colour. This meant my little one had pooed basically when she wasn't supposed to. Pretty common but meant I was bumped up the list (if this hadn't happened I think I would've been left to see if contractions started themselves after my waters broke). I was given an IV drip of an inducing drug (can't remember the name unfortunately). This was 6 ish Saturday evening and she was born 9 hours later :) so in my experience there was a lot of waiting as there are a lot of different ways to induce.

I really really do wish you the best, totally understandable that you're worried but hopefully soon you'll have your little baba :)

Oh thanks so much. That really is what i needed to hear. My main worry was the effect of the gen ana while under operation. i wont even take gaviscon for my heartburn. I had hyperparathyroidism which was high calc and kidney stones prior to falling pregnant. Theyll need to check baby once born to make sure her calc levels are ok but they said the risk is minimal but you worry still. I need to see to believe 😂

Thanks so much for the reassurance.

Thats great thanks so much for sharing your experience. that paints a good pic of whats in store. Its good to know they try the gel first. I had assumed id be straight on drip as that was my impression of induction. Im hoping ill be favourable for the sweep as i tend to go early at 39+. He said he'd do an examination tomorrow so maybe ill be brought back fri. Just imagined id be straight into the thick of it so thats good that ill have some time hopefully to get my head around things.

    Thanks so much ladies.

Hey Ainy, I haven't dropped either.. head was down on Monday but not sure it still is.. midwife suggested getting a ball again to get head down and engaged...only thing is, if you don't want your nerves to be totally frazzled you can't take it out in front of kids..

I'm an emotional wreck at moment, I assuming it's hormones or something.. 20 month old has decided he doesn't want to sleep at night any more and 3 year old has developed a dreadful attitude and isn't listening to a word I say. our 12 hour day is spent with mostly her shouting, him crying and me a blubbering mess cause I can't cope .. roll on next week when playschool is back open, bit of routine back..

Oh my ball is my saviour in the evening miss fire, only place I can sit comfortably but then my feet swell so I just have to go to bed instead!! Bit of an emotional wreck myself also, its hard when you feel you can't do all you want to do for the other child!

    Hope all ok today Flo,

    Hey ladies,
Induction cancelled. Met with consultant and he said there was no real reason to induce esp since its not what i want. He said since im 39 weeks im so close myself. He said his thinking is that for a pregnancy with issues sometimes its best to just deliver the baby to get it ended but hes happy to wait. No further mention of the scan so i presume on reflection that was a non issue.

Was shattered today after all the build up but happy to have dodged the bullet for another day 😂

    Hope everyone is keeping well

Dropping in from May thread Missfire, I'm 36 weeks, and have an almost four year old and a two year old....older one is a nightmare since Christmas.Had a weepy session last with my OH, I just can't handle her.I have no patience at all for her and EVERYTHING is a row or whining or temper tantrums.I am not one for taking crap from my kids, but I feel awful that my whole interaction with her right now seems to consist of snapping at her constantly.
I know she's generally a good child, and she's testing a few boundaries as they do at her age but honest to god, the last few months have been very hard.It is literally like living wih a teenager.I have found age three to be extremely difficult.I am like you, hoping I will get a bit more patient once baby is out.
Don't be too hard on yourself - every so often we need to cheerlead each other a bit because it's bloody tough, and you are certainly not the only mum feeling this way. :-)

So I've had a bit of a weird day. Was at midwives clinic and all ok except that she mentioned the babies head is down but not engaged. Not terribly concerning but she said she'd get doc to take a quick look. Doc then said baby was quite big and I seemed to have a lot of fluid so sent me for scan. According to the scan baby is 8.14 so far. Back to doc who says baby very big and he doesn't want me going over so need to consider induction. Bringing me back Friday next week to discuss. I'm only 38 weeks...

Surely it's too early to panic yet about head being fully engaged? And while baby is on bigger side once neither baby nor I am in any danger/distress there's no need to induce? Or am I deluded?

They certainly have a way of worrying us dont they! They told me the same on my last. I remember the mw pulling all sorts of faces when feeling my stomach. Same stage as you head wasnt engaged. I was like its my 4th, they tend not to engage til in labour.

That would be my thinking, so long as baby is happy, plenty of movement then i wouldnt be opting for induction based only on size. My biggest was 8lbs 11 and im only slight 5"2. Its not an exact measurement either. I think my baby will be bigger than 7lbs. A friend of mine was told she was having a big baby. We all had bets on how big with some ridiculous guesses at 10lbs. She was 2 wks over and baby only weighed 7lbs 7.

I just hate any sort of artificial interference.

I thought the general consensus is that engagement doesn't happen until you're practically in labour, particularly when it's not your first.
And the size thing....they really annoy me with that size thing....I mean they are projecting growth rate over the next two weeks it's not really an exact science. And they are assuming that what the machine measured on you are the exact measurement, with no distortions from baby lying at slight angles or anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,466 ✭✭✭History Queen

It is my first Shesty, they did say they like the head to be engaged on the first.i actually wondered why that was significant when they said it. I agree with you re sizing and I'm of the same mindset as you Flo... hate idea of artificial interference unless of course there's a medical reason like baby is in distress.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,326 ✭✭✭Blingy

It's so hard to accurately measure size at this stage. I had a growth scan and monitoring the day before I went into labour on my first and was told baby was about 7 and a half pounds but more like 7 pounds. 48 hours later baby born at 8 pounds 12. Big difference.

Morning ladies, really starting to go a bit crazy now. Baby was due last Monday, so I'm currently 40 weeks and 5 days, doctor says baby is in the perfect position for a normal delivery, head down, engaged etc blah blah blah. My mother always told me that I was born 10 days late and weirdly my husband was also born 10 days late, baby seems to already take after us, but this is so frustrating!!!!

Well maybe discuss it with them at your next apt. Obviously we would never put our babies in harms way, but for size it does seem a bit unnecessary. If its your first then they have no idea of your capabilities. My sis is a lot taller and bigger than me and she had to be assisted on all her babies with her biggest being 8lbs 3oz compared with me. I tore slightly on my first, who was only 6lbs 14, but only cos he came out like superman with his hand infront of his face lol. My babies increased in size the more i had and i never needed stitches.

Also for your first, if there is any intervention it tends to dominate how your subsequent births go too.

Oh sorry to hear that. As hard as it is just try enjoy your final few days and get any last bits and pieces that need doing done. Thankfully ive always gone early but this one feels like its being going on forever just cos of the issues ive had. Even my consultant said this is his longest pregnancy as hes seen me since wk 8.

Do something nice for yourself. Ive spent the past 2 wks close to home, not venturing far with my kids but today i decided to get out and about and its done me the world of good and a welcome distraction. Im still up at 11.30! Ill prob be exhausted tomorrow but hubby is here to do the early shift lol.

Ya after having a good chat with my husband about it we've decided we'll hear them out on induction to make sure we are fully informed but hold firm on not having one unless there is a medical need.

Sizing can be so inaccurate but as well as that I have been expecting an 8.5 to 9.5lb baby anyway in my own head as, except for one, all 12 of my husband's nieces and nephews were in this weight range. My husband was an 11lb baby and I was 8.9 myself. I mentioned this to the midwife and she was very much of the opinion that I couldn't really hope for a small baby so... that's why I'm so surprised they're talking induction. I won't even be term for another 10 days!

Oh wow, a history of big babies. Itll be half reared when you have it lol.

Well look the other thing with induction is it will only take if baby is ready too. Its only since i was facing it that ive been discussing it with my friends and there was one in particular who it didnt work on despite numerous attempts. She called a halt to it. So baby needs to cooperate too. It just seems awful to bring a baby on before its ready, like trying to wake a baby from a sleep when theyre sleeping soundly. Im far too emotional about these things. Best of luck with it.

Girls sorry to gatecrash your thread, but I just wanted your opinion as heavily-pregnant ladies!

I have a wedding in October which is 10 days before my due date. I would really really like to go, but it is in sligo and I live in Dublin. I’m wondering how you all are able to cope with long car journeys (3-3.5 hours) at this late stage of pregnancy? I seem to have completely forgotten what it was like on my first, which was only in January 2017!

Not so concerned about going into labour as I was induced at a week overdue on number 1, but of course it is also a consideration.

    Thanks!

Well I have 15 days left, was invited to a wedding which was yesterday, i didnt go. I am so wrecked and my feet tend to swell if I'm standing for any length, I knew I wouldn't be comfortable. I was going to go initially if we could get accommodation in the wedding hotel so that I could just go up and lie down whenever I wanted but we couldn't get a room there so I let himself go on his own. It was one of his friends anyway.

I've only 10 days to go and being honest I'd rather chew off my own arm than go to a wedding/face a long car journey. And I'm well in myself overall. If it was local i might consider going but I'd be very nervous of being that far from hospital so close to my due date.

So long as you feel up to it why not. Judge it off your own capabilities. I dont think i was as tired on my 2nd as i am now but having said that im 6 yrs older. In terms of car journeys i think its ok, my trouble now is not wanting to get out to walk lol

Thanks girls. I’m still undecided. I had SPD on my last pregnancy and that would have made it a no-go, but I’m (naively?) optimistic that I could avoid it this time.

It’s an awkward one because I have to RSVP within the next couple of months but will still have no idea how I’ll be feeling until much closer to the time. She’s a fairly good friend though and she’s been through a really tough time so I’d love to see her tie the knot. Plus I’ve got quite a few cousins going who I don’t see a lot, and they’re great craic so I don’t wanna miss out on that either!!

I had my sister's wedding at 35 weeks on my second. My older child was 19/20 mths at the time.I went but honestly the next day I was in bad shape.I stuck to really low heels and flats. (Would have stayed in flats all day only it was my sister!) Couldn't really enjoy the meal because I had no stomach capacity, didn't dance because well, I was so big and also I was a bit afraid of getting bumped into on the dance floor.I struggled on til midnight and that was it.The next day though physically I wasn't in good shape, I had a lot of cramping, back pain and leg pain.Even though I had sat during as much of the day as I could, my body was still clearly not up for it!!!.I remember lying on the couch for as long as I could praying it would prevent early labour!
Just take that into account because with ten days to go and a toddler you are nearly lucky to make it to bedtime most days!!(I know I have two but at 36 weeks it is a mighty effort to get through each day-there is a wedding soon, but we won't be going)

Having ended up going in to be induced 2 weeks early after multiple bouts of reduced movements with my second baby I wouldn't be planning anything for that close to the due date tbh.

Couldn't really enjoy the meal because I had no stomach capacity, didn't dance because well, I was so big and also I was a bit afraid of getting bumped into on the dance floor.I struggled on til midnight and that was it.The next day though physically I wasn't in good shape, I had a lot of cramping, back pain and leg pain.Even though I had sat during as much of the day as I could, my body was still clearly not up for it!!!.I remember lying on the couch for as long as I could praying it would prevent early labour!
Just take that into account because with ten days to go and a toddler you are nearly lucky to make it to bedtime most days!!(I know I have two but at 36 weeks it is a mighty effort to get through each day-there is a wedding soon, but we won't be going)

At 35 weeks on my second in 2011, i was caught up in the bad flooding in dublin. Wrote off my car after driving into what was basically a swimming pool in the middle of the street. I was so anxious to get home after being caught in traffic for 3 hrs i failed to notice the taxi sign floating in the middle of the road lol. I can laugh about it now but was scary at the time.

Just took my first raspberry leaf tea this morning. Not quite as horrible as I expected! Not sure if it does any good but worth a try I suppose. Maybe I'm starting too late. Has anyone been taking primrose oil capsules? Might give them a go too...

My daughter was born on a Friday the 13th! And because there was one in this month I kind of had it in my head that this one will arrive on the 13th too but I doubt it!! Glad you have an end point now.

I feel like my bump has dropped again, have my next appointment on Friday where I was going to tell them I would like the section but since making that decision I'm feeling a bit more positive about going myself now though. So who knows.

I havent been doing/taking anything to help things along, apart from sitting on my ball. Hows the raspberry tea going now ruby?

Morning ladies, really starting to go a bit crazy now. Baby was due last Monday, so I'm currently 40 weeks and 5 days, doctor says baby is in the perfect position for a normal delivery, head down, engaged etc blah blah blah. My mother always told me that I was born 10 days late and weirdly my husband was also born 10 days late, baby seems to already take after us, but this is so frustrating!!!!

    How you doing now bbudab?

Girls sorry to gatecrash your thread, but I just wanted your opinion as heavily-pregnant ladies!

I have a wedding in October which is 10 days before my due date. I would really really like to go, but it is in sligo and I live in Dublin. I’m wondering how you all are able to cope with long car journeys (3-3.5 hours) at this late stage of pregnancy? I seem to have completely forgotten what it was like on my first, which was only in January 2017!

Not so concerned about going into labour as I was induced at a week overdue on number 1, but of course it is also a consideration.

    Thanks!

I have spd throughout this pregnancy (had pgp on my first) and I'm currently 37 weeks. There is no way I could sit in a car for 3 hours now. The actual wedding part might not be too bad as long as you could go up to the room and lie down for a while during the day but the long car journey 2 days in a row I think would be very tough.

Yeah its those little coincidences isnt it. Both my daughters were born on a thurs and my sons on a sun so thought i might go myself on thurs which is my due date. I live in hope.

Havent been doing anything to help things along quite the opp. Am crawling into bed at every opp i get. I even park as close to the sch entrance so my kids can see me and come out themselves. Thats how lazy ive been this pregnancy.

Ah hopefully you go yourself if thats what you want. I feel like everything is out of my control and as the day has gone on im getting a bit anxious. Going to make an apt with my gp midwife to discuss things. Feel a bit intimidated by the consultant. Hes been lovely but i am not going private and he took on my case because of the uniqueness of it. Just feel like my pregnancy has been hijacked. Prob being very dramatic but i hate not being in control and having a say.

Ugh, insomnia has me killed! I was awake from 4 until about 6, got back to sleep then and my 3 year old woke at ten to 7. So wrecked!

Me too. So wrecked today already. Woke at 2.30 and fell asleep just after 4.30 and toddler woke at 5. Got him back to sleep and managed to sleep myself from 5.30-7. Last day of work today fingers crossed they let me go early.

Started using raspberry leaf tea here too. And trying to use the gym ball. Feeling good now with 7 days to due date. How is everyone else feeling?

Seemingly it's good in general for the female reproductive system and helps tone the uterus so that contractions are more efficient during labour. Some anecdotal evidence that it reduces the need for articical induction/sections/assisted deliveries but nothing concrete. Nothing saying it'll do any harm so the way I look at it is it might be a placebo effect but it also might have real benefits so no harm take it at this stage.

Thanks history queen. From when should you take it?

Thanks for that. Will def try that. Still a day to go to avoid induction.
