An Instagram screengrab from today’s protest. I’ve chopped the Instagram user’s name out as I don’t him/her to be ambushed.

But seriously, a banner saying ‘Men R Trash’? That is needlessly divisive and antagonistic.

Sorry you've made up a story about how you imagined that you'd get accused of rape or sexual assault and nothing of the sort happened you're getting a load of likes for it wtf?

What is so unbelievable about that story??

The poster who claimed they spent their scholldays walking home everyday getting beeped at and wolf whistled every day since she was 11............... now that.............
That was me, and yes, sorry you find it so unbelievable. My house was just past a row of factories and the lads would drive out every day as I was going home from school, all full of bravado trying to impress each other, beeping and shouting stuff, sometimes several of them in a van. You are incredibly naive if you find this so hard to believe. You have no problem liking a story about a potential rape accusation which never happened, and only ever existed in the mind of the fella telling it, but you can't believe that men would beep at a schoolgirl in a tight skirt?

Well let me distance myself as a woman from rubbish like that poster . Absolutely dreadful and ignorant

I have already stated that not only have I seen the video - but all the participants are readily identifiable.

I understand that you have a job to do representing some sort of vested interest in this matter but your obfuscation is not going to wash.

Too many people have seen the video.

What vested interest would that be? It's clearly a made up Chinese whispers social media thing? So two things that very rarely happen are supposed to have happened at the same time with this story:

    1. A woman's friend makes her story public
    2. Separately a video gets released

So. Basically two separate leaks from one incident where there's only 3 people involved.

Plus the multiple different names floating about for this woman, conflicting accounts of her fleeing abroad, frankly ridiculous claims as to what goes on in the video.

It all adds up to one massive fake rumour fest.

Of course it is. There are always saps around. Idiots like that don't represent all women any more than misogynist trolls speak for all men.

Not unless Jimmy Saville worked in a factory when you were 11.

Entirely unbelievable story. There’s no way a “group” of men would shout and roar in a sexually motivated way at a child. One might do it but not a group. Total lies.

So what started out as a genuine protest has now morphed from a genuine concern about the rights of complainants and the accused, to "Men are Trash"

    Great. That didn't take long.

You do realise that not all 11-year-olds look like little girls? I was 5'4 and a B cup when I started secondary school. I would imagine those braindead neanderthals thought I was 14 or 15. Does that make it any better? I won't even bother telling you the comments I used to get if I dared to eat an ice cream or lolly walking home on a hot day. I wonder what kind of pathetic insecure human being would rather deny that this happened and call someone a liar than face the fact that some men behave in this way?

    ‘Men R Trash’

What a scummy small-minded thing to write on a poster.

If you had said it happened once, I think people might have doubted the event you describe. But since you say it happened each day, well, then we all know it must have happened as you describe. Each day. So hundreds of times. So you know what you are talking about. Its disgraceful.

Well, you go ahead and dismiss someone's lived experience with your second hand anecdotes. I grew up in Ireland and on my mile long walk home from school each day, I was beeped at repeatedly by grown men starting from the age of 11. They knew I was a child, I was wearing a school uniform. Sometimes they would put the window down and shout lewd comments. I'm living in Spain now and pretty much every time I go home to visit, I'll get some sort of moronic comment or beeping or wolf whistle on the street. You know how many times that has happened to me in Spain? Once. And the age of consent is 16, not 13.

Beeped at you? That's how people salute each other in the countryside. And moronic comments aren't pleasant but are hardly equivalent to rape.

And the age of consent was 13 until 2015.

Can't believe your still banging on 100 pages later still antagonizing people. You've not once discussed the trial. Start your own thread and stop hijacking this one with your own agenda.

Yeah, it's just so incredibly hard to believe that the same idiots who were leaving work at the same time every day would have beeped at me more than just the one time. What are the chances?

I don’t know any 11 year olds that look 14 or 15. Nobody is stupid or ignorant enough to mistake a child for a teenager - nobody.

Someone may have beeped their horn at you (god help you) when you walked home from school, but I’m not buying the dramatic recollection of your horrific schoolgoing days.

I had a wtf moment when I heard there where protests in Dublin on a rape case that happened in the UK whereby after months of legal investigation a not guilty verdict was given.

Again not engaging with the point I made in my post the 'look over there not here' tactics of after hours, if you want to engage with what I said in a post then reply to that.

And LOL at agenda. Yes, a woman discussing sexual harassment she suffered as a child and a teenager in response to claims that Irish men are all so respectful towards women is having an agenda. No, that's not trying to silence women from speaking out at all. Vrtually any time a woman has shared a story of sexual harassment or even rape on this thread she has been called a liar. Yet a man posts a story about being afraid of a woman accusing him of rape (and it turns out she never accused him of anything) and that's applauded? Are you not embarrassed?

You claimed that this happened to you all throughout your childhood as a pubescent schoolgirl.

No, I don't believe it for a minute. If you had been a bit more subtle and said it occasionally happened I might consider it somewhat truthful. But your effort to take it to the extreme and add little tid bits here and there to make it more "controversial" says a lot about your desperation to spread your outrage.

But, no, I am convinced you are making this completely up. And I am not in anyway naive. If I was naive I would consider this as a valid story.

I also don't think the poster was claiming that he may be privy to a potential rape accusation, not in anyway. He merely was alluding to the fact that there is a social norm that some girls are less likely to be open about, or indeed embarrased about one night stands and that there is a stigma about them. That is just society. I think he was relaying a perfectly normal story,

The flipping and flopping of logic is just outstanding all across the internets.

Was it Louise O'Neill's latest article said something about this case being an example of women's sexuality being controlled? Because strangely the whole defence was saying that the lady in question was into group sex.

Also saying someone is a slut is slightly different from saying they can't be raped. I think people already know that but like to pretend otherwise.
