Germaine Greer calling the women at the center of the #metoo scandal 'career rapees' and also saying metoo amounts to nothing.

Yeah but Pam Dawber doesn’t seem to be criticising him if you read what she said about it.

You've quoted the wrong post but you're quite right.

Mountain out of a molehill and as with many of the other half-truth accusations and insinuations, only serves to dilute and diminish worthwhile cases.

This seems to be at the heart of some of these incidents and how they're not all comparable. The intent is key.

I guess Dawber knew that whatever he got up to he knew she'd take it in the spirit it was intended, and his intent was never to humiliate, intimidate, assault, harass, exert power over or embarrass, unlike what we hear about Weinstein.

Knowing your audience has a lot to do with it, intent is the rest of it. Some people seem to misjudge clumsily (Aziz Ansari), some know others will happily play along (Williams) and some have motivations that come from a very dark place of power and entitlement and a need to demean and demand and humiliate (Weinstein).

Intent is important. There's a couple of things I did when I was very young that make me cringe when I think of them. The people involved seemed to take it as it was intended at the time and all the rest so hopefully it's all fine. Still makes me facepalm though. :pac:

Yes she didn't take offense to it, claims "it was so much fun"

I wonder now though will other storys about RW come out which were taken offensively

I'm sure Williams is being cancelled on Twitter as we speak.

I know there was another instance where Billy Crystal grabbed his crotch-it was shown on a comic relief setpiece or something.

I think it's similar to how we make really distasteful jokes with friends that we wouldn't make with a stranger-and that's just camaraderie, in a way.
It's when social cues aren't read, or when you don't know the personal humour of a person, that you don't make those jokes/ comments. Also, one can have a 'dry' sense of humour that one person will pick up on, and another will think is you saying something seriously-which has happened to me more than once, and you quickly have to clarify your position.

This is different to groping, for sure-even putting your hand on someone's shoulder as a reassurance can also be interpreted in a sinister way by someone who's not a close friend.

Williams clearly knew what he was doing-as other's said, it was nothing compared to Weinstein and co.

Well, looks like the chickens have come home to roost - Nickelodeon has ended their deal with Dan Schneider. According the Deadline, there's been a 'cloud of suspicion' over Schneider for the last few years. But it seems his 'temper' is part of the reason for his firings.

The rumours have been around for years about him. Maybe this time it really is about to come out and they are pre emptively getting rid of him? Certainly seems like suspicious timing

According to studies, victims of sexual abuse/ molestation, usually seek help ten years after the abuse ends, usually in their twenties. Then speak out after that.

This would coincide many of Schneider's shows...possible some starlets have come forward? Probably.

I think I recall reading something about the singer/former child actress who went through a very traumatic event last year wanting to come forward

I don't think Nickelodeon firing him now is going to help considering the network allegedly knew what was going on. For years. I wonder what's going to happen.

I think Bella Thorne's revelations she was molested started people questioning 'who' her abuser was. (I'm not saying it was Schneider, since she worked for the House of Mouse).
Which only further shone a light on abuse happening within TV. I imagine many more will come forward. But not all of them.

Wonder if he has as many victims as Dr Nassar, the gymnastics dr/ molester.

Thinking about it, could the singer/ actress be Jamie Lynn Spears? She was Nickelodeon, and was poised for big things during Zoey 101...next thing she was knocked up, show was axed, and she went into the fame wildernessm which seemed bizarre considering Britney Spears fame at the time.
May very well have contributed to Britneys breakdown.

As for the difficult year, JLS daughter had a rough time due to an accident last year. Wonder if that triggered her possibly coming forward. There were questions as to the parentage of her kid.

Well if we can just name names on here, it's supposed to be ariana grande. The difficult year was in relation to the Manchester bombing. Apparently she has had to get intensive therapy and all this other stuff was brought up. Plenty of creepy photos around of her with Schneider.

Has Rose commented on that case?

Be interesting to know what, if anything, she has said given that she has gone out with him.

I just read her book and she was gushing about him in every way. Not so with regards to those around him though.

I don't have much time for someone who dates an overt weirdo like Marilyn Manson for four years (and even got engaged) and then years later complains about the weird/kinky sex. It smacks of someone wanting to have a story about sexual assault so she's not left out.

Your post suggests you don't really understand how insidious abuse works.

I've never been to America but from all the way over here I know I'd not go near Marilyn Manson, and it's less likely he'd rape me. "Insidious" IMO doesn't apply to when someone has a public persona which perfectly matches their personal one.

I'm not talking about his persona. Besides, I don't really judge a book by it's cover. Are we supposed to assume he's a rapist and abuser on how he looks?

In her statement she talks about the abuse starting off slowly and escalating. It's pretty typical of abuse stories and I see zero reason to disbelieve her - and Manson is an assumption, she hasn't named him. Her entire life was affected and apparently still is, she's being treated for ptsd.

Disclosing abuse is usually many years later after some distance has been gained both mentally and physically, as it would appear in this case.

I've no idea why anyone would dismiss her as an attention seeker out of hand, or says they've no time for her, or describe what she refers to as abuse as just kinky sex, but apparently there are those who approach all these things with disbelief and suspicion for reasons best known to themselves.

"Marilyn Manson" is his stage act, off stage the actual persona he puts out in public comes across as pretty normal and intelligent. It's not her fault that he turned out to be abusive

having sex with someone who you believe you be unconscious is rape, not "kinky sex".

He comes across that way when he wants to. I've seen people talk about him and alarm bells were ringing big time.

What if it's part of what they do? I've woken up with stuff being done to me, not rape.
