I went to the Post Office today to collect an AddressPal item.and had a big whinge to the guy behind the counter.

Apparently there have been over 3000 redundancies,

    :eek::eek:

    That could not be correct?

I have multiple tracking numbers which show the stuff gets to Ireland in about a week but after that disappears down the rabbit hole. Unreal. The worst one at the moment is something I ordered on Jan 28, got dispatched Jan 29 and arrived in Ireland on Feb 6. 4 bleeding weeks sitting in some An Post depot. Scandalous.

Also I have two brothers who have either worked as postmen or in An Post sorting offices and some of the things they say goes on would cause a revolt.

But hey it's Ireland and shure we can all get drunk again over the weekend for Paddy's Day.

Phew....the Feb 6 item is "on delivery". Finally.

Got a baseball cap ordered on the 19th of January today. It is a gift for a birthday in April :)

I'm waiting on 4 separate items that left China 28/29 January. Tracking is showing in transit to destination Country(Ireland)obviously that's just how the tracking system works. I'm guessing they arrived in Ireland at least 2 weeks ago and that's going by past experience.
Why have they not been acknowledged by Irish post?
    Could I take legal action?

    no, dont be stupid.

they get pennies if even for delivering free postage goods from China. They have loads and loads of them to pile through. its only been a month and a half, thats not a long time for delivery being honest.

pay for a proper shipping method or wait.

Been using Chinese online retail stores for years, I'm well aware of shipping times. In fact I'm usually the one who is telling other 'newbies' to be patient, tho I'm more use to between 3/4 weeks. Just when I read all these posts and accusations being 'floated' around ON HERE about an post..
Well it just got me thinking!?
Move along nothing to see here.

Shipped 30th January from China via free post Ali express order, still no sign of it. The waiting game continues, cant grumble really as its free post, Chinese new year and I paid pittance for the item.

What I've heard (and I've no idea if it's nonsense or not) is that currently China is treated as a third world country in terms of post and AP get feck all for delivering them. However that is due to change this year and would mean their value to AP would increase. Which should be good for us!

Maybe it's just some lunatic's ravings however.

Well there you go. I suppose it's swings and roundabouts.

The Chinese post for sellers is subsidised by the government and partially by The UN.
The big thing that is due to be changing this year will be that everything (no minimum) will be subject to VAT when it arrives.

I paid for a proper shipping method, granted postal, but paid and registered, not free. And I'm waiting.
    From Russia, not China.

Maybe we should all just get together and each month order a shipping container loaded with all our goodies :)
Shir that's what most retailers do anyway.
    Everything comes from China :P

So they announced cost cutting measures...and then awarded themselves a pay increase

They said their business had decreased owing to competition from more nimble competitors ....their response to this "nimble" competition being to slow down their delivery times even further!!.

You couldn't make those clowns up :D

their competitors dont have to deliver pallet loads of parcels from china for basically nothing.

Well you know the people who order from China do other business with An Post.

You don't see supermarkets taking customers with only a can of beans or a carton of milk out of the checkout line and making them stand in the corner until everyone else is served and the staff have nothing better to do...ever wonder why they don't do that?...have a think about it ;)

SO THEY'RE ON A 'GO SLOW'!?!?

    Excuse my French.
    But it's their fookin job.
Jaysizzzz creeeest 1 letter or 1,000,000 letters.
Do your bloody shift and go home.
God knows we've enough to be arséholes about when we do get home.

The ordinary An Post worker doesn't care about how much AP makes from packages from China or whatever, they're not on commission, they get paid the same regardless

So if that's actually the reason for the delays there must be an order coming from senior levels.

Shame An Post isn't subject to the FOI Act

As Dandelion6 said this isnt the actions of individual workers. Given how widespread this seems to be it has to be management diktat.

    It's not just China either.
They are experiencing a backlog after the weather, which also created a spike in online shopping. They already had a backlog from China because of 11.11, Black Friday, Christmas Sales and New Year. The two backlogs and above mentioned redundancies aren't helping.

I am waiting almost two weeks for an item from Kildare. I could have crawled there to pick it up and crawled back by now. Also waiting on plenty of other items from inside Europe for a fairly long time.

Posted from China 26/02. Cleared customs yesterday. Not sure if it's been delivered yet (tracking usually only updates after it's been delivered)

I ordered some stuff from Canada that was sent by surface mail. Anyone know how long it takes? It was sent out on Feb 5th. Not sure how long I should wait before filing a PayPal claim either.
