Saw on the Jets Facebook page a mock from I think CBS having the Jets getting Mayfield. Injecting false hope in February is a new low :)

As long as its not Josh Allen I'll be ok!

Wilkerson and Forte gone today, that leaves the cap at north of $90 million.
Macc was interviewed at the combine today that he expects them to make a big splash in FA, it'll be interesting to see what way they go, I dont want to see them firing out cash just because they have it.

    Interesting read here: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/qb-save-jets-don-sign-kirk-cousins-article-1.3860763
The writer suggests that if the Jets don't sign Cousins, they re-sign McCown, for a cheap mentor role, and draft one of the highly ranked rookies on the rookie salary. Gives cap relief, gives the fans some hope and eases the rookie into the lineup.

I would still prefer Cousins and a highly ranked player (maybe a lineman to protect him), but this is an interesting idea. If the Giants don't get a quarterback at number 2, that certainly would make this easier on the Jets.

I wouldn't put too much faith in Mehta anyway, but I agree for the most part.

My concern is we miss out on Cousins (likely) and then don't move up to get one of the big QBs. I think even ignoring teams trading up above us, there's a fair chance they'll all be gone by 6...

If they dont pick up Cousins in FA, they NEED to trade up form the 6th spot. As you said theres a good chance that the top 4 QBs will be gone, so they cant afford to play the waiting game, especially if Cousins signs for the vikings

What's the story with McCowns injury, will he be ready week one if thats the way they decide to go?

McCown has been named as the 2018 starter. Surely this can only mean QB in the first round is a must!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭corner back 2

Naming McCown starter for 2018 wtf? They just keeping making the same mistake over and over. Do they not remember Fitzpatrick! GM and coach both out of their depth. They are giving him 10 million fully guaranteed ffs. He is 39 and only won 5 games last season. Really feel like giving up on this team now but know I won't be able to. 90 million in cap space and McCown is the only FA they have signed!

apparently they've agreed to terms on a three-year contract with rb Isaiah Crowell. Genuinely intrigued with this one, underrated player imo and only 25! I'm less exicted about giving Mccown $10 million!

Not so sure about Crowell. Some character concerns and didn't get many carries for the worst team in football last year. Hopefully he works out but starting to wonder about signing another ex Brown.

I really don't understand why they'd name him starter. Does this mean Bridgewater is dead in the water. Only bright spot in this disaster is that most of the teams ahead of us in the draft have filled their QB needs....

Blame Hue for that. Bad coach and always behind so not going to be a prolific run team. Crowell is a good RB, 12 mill though? That cant be right?

Trumaine Johnson signing up. Good signing imo and an upgrade on Claiborne.

signing McCown for $10 million, naming him starter and then signing Bridgewater is really strange to me. I hope this doesn't mean Macc neglects drafting a qb, as I think its still its a huge area of need! McCown is only going to be there a year and I honestly think you be foolish to pin your future on Teddy giving his injury history.
like the Johnson and Crowell moves, but not a big fan of Avery Williams. Centre is still a massive need, so I hope they can sign Jensen in the next few days and add another db and maybe dine depth

Still need a QB in the first round. McCown's pretty durable, but every backup QB plays some each season on every team. Bridgewater is an upgrade to Petty and Hackenberg, maybe the Jets do something stupid like running the wildcat with him. I actually saw Tebow in the wildcat with Sanchez on Jets, now I watch him flail away in Mets spring training games (until he's sent down, like he was today.)

Ahh well. Had some hope they'd sign Cousins but not going to lose sleep over it, so many areas need improvement still.

Bridgewater never ran wildcat in his life! No idea where you got that from but do think he is a good signing with lots of potential upside. Also I am still hopeful they draft Mayfield.

Jets have traded with the Colts up to #3 in the draft.

Does anyone trust them to take the right qb now?? Delighted with the intent from maccagnan though

It’s the Jets, so you can be sure the one they pass on will be a HOF’er & the one they pick will be out of the league in 4 years 😂

Don't trust them at all to pick the right qb but don't really care either. Delighted with the intent and looking forward to the draft and everything that comes with a first round qb. Even if it doesn't work out the Jets are relevant again and who knows this pick could make them competitive for years to come

Mangold is officially retiring a Jet. One of the best players that has been around during my time supporting the team. We were really spoilt having himself and Ferguson anchor down the line for a decade

Good for Mangold... Always liked him.  The Jets only signed Spencer Long to what is effectively a 1-year deal. They still need an edge rusher and left tackle.  I wonder if the center out of Ohio State, Billy Price, will be available to them on day two of the draft?  He’ll miss 4 months because of surgery but he could end up being a great long-term pick.

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

Schedule out for the season, have to say I'm feeling more optimistic than most, big games up front and timing isn't great but there's potential to get off to a flyer.

The Jets are hot on Baker Mayfield, but now I've been reading reports the Bills or Dolphins might trade up to the number #2 spot to get him before the Jets.

No one has a clue who the Jets are hot on, the media said it was definitely going to be Josh Allen, then there was a solid two weeks of Rosen being the only they were interested in and the last couple of weeks its turned into Mayfield is 100% the pick and I guarantee theres still time for the media to come out with 'Darnold a lock to go to the Jets headlines. Its all horsesh1t, the sooner the draft comes around the better!

I dont think the Giants trade out of 2, but if they do either of them teams would have to give up the whole farm to move up!

The Jets traded to the number 3 spot for a reason.  IMO it was because they thought Mayfield would be available to them at that spot.  Darnold and Allen might have gone 1 & 2.  Three is where they wanted to be to get Mayfield.

A lot of sharps saying Josh Allen is the QB to avoid. That usually means the Jets will draft him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭franglan

I'd take Rosen or Mayfield in that order. As long as we don't take Allen I'm alright with that. The guy has a massive arm but isint accurate énough to be a franchise QB long term in the league. He misses on throws wildly at times.

It's being a vicious cycle of shouting NO repeatable at the tv with jets drafts particularly with Geno and Hack of late.

Had some fun with this today: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/rank-biggest-busts-new-york-jets-history-article-1.3952406

My #1 was Blair Thomas, #2 Kyle Brady. That didn't match the overall consensus but my #3, Christian Hackenberg, did. Not sure why all the hate for Vernon Gholston, Thomas by far was the worst draft pick ever (at least, on that list).

Your newest Jet! I would have preferred Rosen/Mayfield, but still happy with Darnold. The front office have to be delighted with the way the trade worked out though

Great result, assumed he would be #1 definitely. 3 years in a row of swiping a top rated pick. Very surprised Rosen fell, just injury concern?
