Looking like north of a Galway Dublin line no thaw till next week.
Further south it could thaw over Saturday.
    Forecasters not too sure.

Have 11 inches on the flat here and some drifts up to 3 foot this morning. No water in or out.
Sheep shed is open to east and snow blown in on top of pens three full bays back from the door.

Not looking forward to tonight/tomorrow. ..

Not too bad if youu're heading out on holidays but being delayed coming home is a bummer... Any updates from George Sunsnow?

    Sorry for lack of posts
    Scrapers froze this morning
Had drained machine but forgot one unit
    It all blocked with ice

Update everywhere getting this blizzard by tonight
Lightning forecast in east and south so there could be power cuts
Front may stall in eastern half for 24 to 36 hrs
Potential for a foot to 2 feet in parts of the east especially Dublin and Meath south through Wicklow Wexford Carlow Kilkenny Waterford
Looks like no decent warm up except far south
Northeasterly to follow Monday with more snow showers

Short term very hazzardous tonight and tomorrow
    Below freezing throughout

My tractor won't start either. Oul man put it and the lorry in front to block feeding passage for cows. Just spent an hour trying to tickle the lorry back round her to jump start her when I eventually got it out the lorry got stuck in snow. Charging a battery now to try it. People with happy snow men photos are making me hate anyone outside of farming! I know too far!

3 non starters here this morning. Car started fine but feck all use with the depth of snow. Land Rover had diesel frozen I'd say. Eventually got it going. Have the digger battery in the utility room giving it a bit of TLC a quick charge. Wanted tractor to scrape snow off feeding apron around cow shed but I'll do without it now.

Buy a good set of heavy duty jump leads. Will cost around €70 but invaluable on days like these. Diesel engine take a fair bit of power to get going hence the need for heavy duty. (Sorry I know useless advice to ye at the moment if ye cant get moving)

Heater plug isn't something we have to use a lot in this country, so could easily be forgotten about. Use it!

Preparation was key here. The warnings for this weather came over a week ago so I had plenty of time to prepare for the worst.

All pipes and drinkers frozen this morning bar the pumphouse which I left a heat lamp on in so have water there. I just moved in the troughs I had filled a few days ago to each pen. Lifted up the water tanker with the tractor and filled them all to the top again after they had a good drink. Got that filled up again and ready for tomorrow if I can get out in the blizzard. Bedded all the sheds and made sure everyone has enough silage.

    Friday is looking bad!

    Water frozen in n shed.
It’s harvested water in a tank. Didn’t bother thawing drinkers. I split the line at the tank and thawed the end of the tank with a fan heater. Used length of hose to fill half barrels, that will do for the moment.

Drinkers all frozen in the sheds here too, should I try warming them with a heat gun would it get the water flowing again?

Thank God herself was busy during the summer. Logs coming in handy now

Well fair play to her. I was starting the fire here and asked herself to to go out and split a few starters. I'd swear that woman feels no cold.

Still sick. No water. Pipes frozen. Tractor won't even turn, let alone start.
Water back but will try to thaw pipes in an hour. Cattle should have silage eaten by then. Got tractor going with extra car battery, an old varta I got from a scrap yard for the fencer. I did some yeee hawwwing when it went.

Lads farming is nothing but misery today. The Three water lines are gone now including the one to the house.....tractor started thank god as I've been starting her regularly. Everything is just hardship and it's Baltic. We havnt even had the worst of it as only about 4cms landed but it's going heavy out there now.....really dreading tomorrow.....the cattle we have still out are fine thou-not a bother on them as they are right at the house I can see them and they are happy out! I don't like snow.....

Tough day today. One water source free so used it to fill up troughs. Hot water too. Fed calves with milk from tank and milk replacer. Got scrapers going in all sheds. Then thawed the milking machine on one side with hot water and blow heater. Wedged the place with silage. Amazing what you can do with lads working together and helpful neighbours. In now beside fire waiting for the storm.

Are we still meant to go in to house at 4pm and stay there until tomorrow?
Who's going to milk the few cows, feed calves etc etc:rolleyes:

Just a small thing on drinkers. Aswell as defrosting the pipe up from concrete and metal fittings, open the top cover. The slightest thing will catch the float. Go handy, but l chipped away an amount of frozen crap that was stopping float.

Could save a lad any amount of hardship
