I could see the Alfa Romeo looking more like that this year.
I very much doubt that Ferrari would be happy with them having a full red livery.

Red and white is what I would take a guess at.

And for the williams launch, dont get your hopes up for anything too different from last year.

Hard to tell much with so much black and the black background. Body colour halo looks interesting. I wonder if anyone will do anything really different with the halo

Interesting is one way of describing it. Hideously ugly would be my thoughts.

Looking forward to watching drivers climb in and out with that thing perched there.

We could well see mini step-ladders on each grid :D

I hope to god that isn't the final livery of the barge board area. It's horrendously ugly. So much so I didn't even notice how ugly the rest of the car was

The JCB logo just does not look right not in yellow and black

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,028 ✭✭✭H3llR4iser

interesting that both the cars shows so far have taken a "non-blended in" approach with the halo thing; the way it's on the car, it can be removed from the design with minimal modifications...they kinda clearly hope it doesn't make it to the end of the season :D

What you mean cookie? That logo has been used before plenty of times just not on a machine I think.
Then I am in regular contact with them so it dosnt look out of place to me

Am I the only one who thinks that it looks kind of cool?

No, I do too. I the white roll cage actually adds to the look of the car.

The white halo on the Williams does look better than the black one on the Haas, but both look like bits of crash structure that were meant to be stuck under (not on) the body.

It screams of someone in the FIA saying "They've kinda tested it already, so we'll just go with it. Agreed? Pints!"

Hope it goes better than it looks. They've ruined the classiest looking livery on the grid with all the black imo. Think the white halo looks manky too in this case.

I think the yellow black is just so iconic for JCB, seeing it in any other colour jsut looks a bit odd

Used to be in company colours on the williams

Only just not the white and black logo. Thought you meant the white jcb font against the yellow/black background. Brainfart

They'll probably just step over it and into the car like normal. The desire to make the halo seem like a huge problem baffles me.

I'm honestly expecting to see some sort of step being used.

Drivers who have tested said getting into the car has been one of the biggest changes so far as the halo is quite high up now in comparison and it's a bit of a drop. Saw one interview with a driver from F2 I believe who had been testing and he even said using a step would help.

Also said getting out is fine as you can pull yourself up using the halo.

No they really won't just "step over it". If you think about it rather than being so quick to be pro-halo in every post.

Also.. you might want to have a chat to Max... can you believe that idiot thinks the halo is ugly??

Agreed. You only have to look at the 2 car launches so far to see what the teams think of the halo. If they could launch their cars in a pitch dark room, they would.

They could sit on it and swing their legs around. I'd be surprised if they actually need a step.

Hold on to the rollbar and pill themselves over. Or maybe Sit on the halo. How will they manage?

I think the halo is making some a bit more emotional than necessary. Not half a big a problem as you seem to like to think.

It's here for now so no point drowning in your own tears.

Just seen that Kubica won’t be partaking in as many sessions as some would like, in truth, can people see this opening the door in 2019 for him elsewhere?

Williams clearly spotted something, why else was he signed up?

Only for money he was in a race seat this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,079 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Only for money he was in a race seat this year.

We don't know that. 2 teams have him multiple tests and then decided not to employ him.

Joe Saward says he was .4s slower than Stroll who was slower than Massa.

I'd love to see him back to his best and back in a car but I don't think it's realistic. He could continue to improve over he year and earn a place. Nerve damage is slow to regrow so it could still be improving

    4 seconds is a lifetime in F1.

If that were the case why did Williams employ him?

Remember the Lola’s in Melbourne 1997?

10/11 seconds off the pace, neither driver got near an F1 seat again.

I reckon there’s more than meets the eye with Kuica’s situation.

Even with 2 inexperienced drivers in the car this year they can’t have many excuses.

Mercedes engines since 2014, but this is the first Williams influenced by Paddy Lowe in over a generation.

The weakest element is the drivers.

Hi CTD. I meant 0.4 seconds. Which is about the gap you’d expect between teammates. I think Stroll is grand but nothing special. So If Kubica is not significantly faster than him, there’s no point employing him. They might as well get a pay driver who is young and has lots of scope to improve.

Didn’t see the decimal point when reading.

Took off my glasses, think I need to put them back on.

I don’t see stroll making the move up the grid to be fair.

The bigger teams don’t need pay drivers.

Looks like daddy won’t be able to buy a Ferrari or Mercedes seat.

I looked at those pictures and thought the halo wasn't half as bad as people expected.

The halo is here. It's probably time to start getting over it.
That semi sharkfin cant believe it's luck. Everyone looking forward to bashing the halo so they haven't noticed it.

By this time next year we'll be used to the halo and it won't be a problem. A fast car is beautiful
Maybe some people will be outraged about almost anything- even f1 deciding not to hire grid girls.

Grid girls are of the past and now they’re in the past. It’s just normal change as part of trying to grow the fan base.
I'm actually looking forward to the annual 'the cars all look awful this year. Pity they don't look like xxxx year cars' completely forgetting that that's what people say every year. Even the classics were new once.

What's happening with the stark fin this year, is it in or out? Last I heard it was out so I'm waiting for the 'wheres the shark fin? Cars look stupid without it'. Following from last year's 'shark fin is ridiculous, cars look stupid with it'.
Pages and pages in lots of threads about grid girls. The idea of suddenly beginning to examine the mechanism by which grid children will be chosen, while never bothered to question how grid girls were chosen, is interesting.

Taking a sudden interest in grid girls income while never bothering to worry about any other entertainers or PR personnel’s incomes. Protestations that choosing not to hire grid girls is the “last nail in the coffin of a free thinking society”.

The first 2 examples are interesting and suggest that this issue has stirred up emotions that aren’t being expressed because the arguments are wafer thin. The third example ( the end of free thinking society )is hysterical though.

The whole thing seems to have
I never saw this level of scrutiny of how grid girls were selected.

Money talks in all walks of life. Next thing the same principle will apply to an important role like drivers. Little Lance's daddy will pay a team to give his son a drive instead of a faster driver with less money. Oh wait...

Seriously guys. The hysteria over grid girls and the sudden interest in how their successors will be selected is beginning to look like a parody of itself.

The sooner the season starts and there's some real news to talk about, the better. I'm actually looking forward to the first pre season test where Sauber does a few fast laps and people start speculating about them competing for the title.
Quite the opposite. If they are upset enough, the sound of their grumbling will be as loud as a v10
Neither of us were around when the decision was taken to have grid girls. Let's assume that they were chosen because the culture at the time wanted grid girls for commercial reasons. Now that culture has changed and it no longer wants grid girls for commercial reasons, it's a nail in the coffin of society? How does that work? Is all change bad or just this change?

F1 is free to choose the show it puts on. It's unfortunate that they won't be hiring grid girls any longer, but it's hardly F1's job to provide them with employment.
Merger is most likely when the technology is advanced and EVs become more common. Imagine the uproar from the engine noise brigade!
That is some amount of "Get over it"/Gaslighting posts.
