I dont see it as a bad sign, he is just doing other races because (and this might sound mad) he loves racing.

Back in the day, racers used to take part in other categories for money to up their income, but once F1 was paying millions they stopped.

I think its great to see an F1 driver branch out.

Up to the mid 80s F1 drivers would also participate in other events, sadly the loss of Stefan Bellof,Manfred Winkelhock and Jo Gartner in sport car events made team owners place restrictions on the events drivers could participate in.

Later Bernie would be less then impressed with the notion of F1 drivers giving any spotlight to other events and as was said by many Fernando would not have raced at Indy if Bernie was still in charge.

Fernando loves driving - as he put it better to be at Daytona than stuck in a gym !

Spot on, he missed 3 races due to sinus surgery and his father was killed in a plane crash.

Flavio Briatore ripped into him for trying to come back, apparently the lawyers were involved and if Berger under performed at that race his contract was to be terminated with immediate effect.

In Parc Ferme that day you could see Briatore and Berger were frosty towards one another.

In the last few years of his career at Hockenheim

    1994 won
    1995 3rd
1996 retired in the lead with just a few laps left.
    1997 won

That’s a cool piece of trivia!

Was Briatore ever the good guy in a story in his whole entire life? I wonder if even his mother could tell you of an altruistic act by him.

He was always the centre of controversy in his team whenever it reared its head.

Luciano Benetton was the one who brought him to F1, i wonder did he ever regret it in the end.

Even though he always denied any wrong doing in Singapore 2008, if i was a betting man i'd put money on Flavio coming uo with the idea and instructing Piquet to do it.

Here was the retirement in 1996

Jonathan Palmer was a shocking commentator.

Yes, but that was a different era. All sports are way more professional nowadays and having distractions like this are not good for McLaren or Formula 1. If McLaren had a good car there is no way he would have been allowed sign up for a full season of WEC. The fact that McLaren have been so poor gave Alonso loads of bargaining power when negotiating.

Look what happened to Wehrlein at the race of champions!

Hard to get a proper impression with the dark background obscuring both the halo and fin.

This looks good. There livery this year is much nicer than what they had last year which was so dull.

So we start a seperate thread for all the new cars?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I would say that's deliberate to hide the horrible halo!

Same comment as I had last year - there is no need for another thread. There is feck all being discussed in here and then in a few weeks time you will have new cars being posted in both threads.

When you have creative photography to hide these details on launch day, you can be sure it's not going to be pretty in reality.

Some brighter images to see some details.

As expected, the halo looks like a joke.

so does the front wing and barge boards. I really wish they would address how ridiculous these are getting

And that's before they start adding even sillier looking aerodynamic fairings on the halo which they are going to!

The Haas is not a pretty car, their livery last year was cack and this isn't really any better. It just lacks a sense of it's own identity

Notice the posh watch maker Richard Mille jumped ship from McLaren. I'm 2 episodes into Grand Prix Driver.

    This too shall pass.

You can see it in the McLaren doc, the PR guy preempts a question to Alonso "Do you think it will be harder to overtake this year" to which Alonso says "Yes", but the PR answer is "we will see".

These cars are getting insane, the Haas also has the new beam wing on the back which is also a loophole that will be exploited.

If it wasn't for the Halo, the 2018 Haas actually looks like a smart and fresh car. Much better than last year.
Would like to see Grsojean get some decent results for France this year.
Very excited to see the Williams tomorrow too.

I wouldn't mind if this years Williams had a Martini livery like this:

I looked at those pictures and thought the halo wasn't half as bad as people expected.

The halo is here. It's probably time to start getting over it.

Halo has a dark backdrop for those photos, should look worse in the flesh.

Aren't martini bottles green? It would probably ork with the classic Jordan 191 colouring with Martini racing stripes.

I'm always surprised at how few teams go for green livery. Caterham/Lotus, Jaguar. It's mad to think there are teams that choose gray over green

There's no getting around it, the halo looks atrocious. It actually looks thicker than the version they used during testing of it. It's going to obscure the view of the driver's helmet too for viewers.

And we won't even have grid girls to stand in front of the cars this year to distract from it ;)

Much easier to work in the sponsors on something like grey. The Jaguar's, Lotus/Caterhams etc usually went with green because they were also the title sponsor.

Oh yeah that probably makes sense. Pity because green cars stand out where grey is just... grey.

That semi sharkfin cant believe it's luck. Everyone looking forward to bashing the halo so they haven't noticed it.

By this time next year we'll be used to the halo and it won't be a problem. A fast car is beautiful

There's a bit of green on the Mercedes-Benz thanks to the Petronas sponsorship.
Like people say, the halo is here for now so let's just get on with the testing and racing and who knows maybe Indys visor might be picked up later.

    This too shall pass.

Historically green was considered an unlucky colour, so that might have something to do with it in the past.

I could see the Alfa Romeo looking more like that this year.
