The funny thing about that quote is that they can do this without going to an island which I'm going to bet isn't cheap.
I can do all of those without leaving the gaff.

Don't be that one that brings discussion from other threads into a thread to make a point.

Why do you have to be so crude? I am starting to think that men that say crude derogatory statements about women, just do it, because they feel insecure in front of other men.
Did you open an account just to upset yourself?

    Genuine question.

But that doesn't answer which number you would want to see Ireland get to?
    First in the world? 10th?
I think a good indication would be to compare our Government to other Governments of similar size.
Comparing for example ours to France's wouldn't make sense as their Government will be larger.
Also I'd question is there an actual willingness from women to want to be in politics?
I'm all for them in power by the way, no beef with it whatsoever.
Besides, this skews the thread off topic as the number of women in the Dail is different to a story of women designing a female only island and a poster saying men hurt women..

I'd like to see a number that bounces around 50%. Some years over, some years under. That's because women do make up roughly 50% of the population.

And yes, you can compare us to france in this regard. It's based on the percentage of women in a parliament. The size of the country doesn't matter. It's not like smaller countries have a massive shortage of women and they can't spare them for elections.

btw, if you did compare with countries of a similar size in europe, you'd be comparing with finland, norway and denmark. All of which have a far higher representation than Ireland.

I honestly don't know why you would think that 24% women in parliament or being 75th in the world is something to be proud of.

This whole thing is nonsense. It's one woman inviting her friends and then asking other people to send her a video as part of an application process. It's a tiny little scheme and getting utterly daft exposure because it's a good headline and something for the anti-feminists to get wound up about.

or equally it just shows the relative interest in the job. It would probably horrify most men to go into politics is just so happens it horrifies even more women.

Except that we're in the bottom half in the world. The fact that there are 74 countries where women have greater representation shows that women do not have a natural aversion to politics. There are many countries where the ratio of men-women in parliament is about 50-50.

Or are you saying that there's something about Irish women in particular that makes them unable to deal with politics?

    Wait,

So all the crazy man haters and outrage junkies leave and go to an island

    Whats the problem?

The MRAs believe it's unfair and somehow affects them.

I don't think I've shown proudness in this?
I was saying merely that we have jumped heaps compared to what it used to be.
It could be better of course but if there is no willingness from the female population to engage further into politics then how can you persuade them otherwise?
What inventive is there for them to increase their numbers?
Anyway I'll leave it there cause it will go further away from the actual thread.

Ask them. They may have agency of their own.

Might be because they are smart? Politics is a horrendous job specially cause Ireland is so smalll and all politics is local. Having moany fûckers calling to your door on a Sunday after you having spent the week in Dublin? Very poorly paid job for what it is.

Speaking of agency, it also doesn't hurt to remember that women also vote for the men who dominate political assemblies.

it might be the nature of Irish politics, in a high population country you are not expected to be able to know your constituents, if the Irish politicians have to turn up to every funeral or knock on every door maybe it just creates an extra level of drudge that less women wan to do?

There are all couples resorts / adults only so why not all [insert gender / sexual orientation here]

Don't see what the fuss is about.

Most voters are women. Ergo sexism in politics is caused by women. Go stats.

    I don't mind at all.
I am sure these women would be equally ok with a men only island.

Sure, we all need a bit of a holiday without the interference from the other gender.

The President's Club annual dinner as a 'men only' event caused a raucous and has been cancelled in the future under the guise of...sexual harassment. It's a brave new world out there.

To be fair, I doubt you're going to hear accusations about toyboy employees getting their testes groped on the female-only island.

What? Have you seen how groups of women can behave. Groping and ass grabbing happens more than you'd think.

If only there was an island where we could confine women so men could be safer.

I wonder if all the big brave bucks who are so upset about this proposed women only resort are also upset about a Portmarnock Golf Club being a men only club.

As with not of these stories, it’s only wrong when the other side do it.

Why not just let the market decide whether this business survives or not?

It depends on the type of men only event it is.

Think of it this way. there are guys who go on a stag weekend, they drink, do some activity and then go home.
Then there's guys like that group in prague who wore hitler costumes in the jewish quarter and groped waitresses.

The presidents club definitely belongs in the second group.

We all know it's the blatant hypocrisy of it that irks people, not the single gender clubs, pubs, whatever. Sure even you know that.

But then, thats your modus operandi - isn't it. Rage on!

I disagree. By all accounts it was a tiny minority who groped waitresses. The whole event shouldn't be banned because of the tiny minority.

Essentially you have just compared a men-only event to wearing Nazi costumes...interesting logic.

Only someone who is intent on hysterical overreaction would understand that post as you did.

Why is there space much hysteria around gender lately? And it's on the right and on the left, among women or men. It's entertaining up to a point but eventually it's just annoying.

No-one said women don't do that. However, there won't be any suggestively dressed young men on the island for the women to fawn over.

Significant difference between this and The President's Club.
