From what I've heard about gyms these days there's lads there looking like they're ready for a night out.... and girls basically ready for the beach.

I've seen lots of the former...but sadly very little of the latter. :(

Agreed. Showering before every workout is not practical.

Oddly enough I shower mid training sessions. I start most gym visits with 30-40 mins of cardio (some from of HIIT usually), my gear does be wringing wet with sweat after that so it a quick shower and change of clothes back out to do weights. I must admit it can be hard to get motivated again to do the weights after having a shower and bringing the heart rate back down but there's no way I could continue the workout after the cardio without stinking the joint up.

You’re dead right, that is odd

It may be odd but I wish it was the norm. There are some guys in my gym who arrive down to the weights area after doing cardio with sweat dripping off them AND NO TOWEL (a real peeve of mine) nor do they wipe down after them. Disgusting.

I'm seeing this more lately. Guys wearing incredibly tight clothing to I assume emphasise their physique. There's one guy in particular in my gym who in fairness is in amazing shape. I'd assume top size he'd be an XL but I'd say he's wearing Medium, maybe Large at best tops. It's usually the under armor or Nike lycra stuff so it won't tear but if it was cotton it'd rip as he's working out. The slightest movement has the sleeves rolling up to the point the top almost looks sleeveless. Any lateral or jumping motion and his mid riff is exposed. It just looks utterly ridiculous.

If your priority is cardio then you do a cardio day I reckon.

If I'm going to the gym and want to do some mild cardio, I'd tend to do it after a warm up, stretching and some weights rather than the other way around, idea being you're not tired doing weights after the cardio - can lead to tired/poor form

That depends what you're doing and the intensity.

If you're running and then going on to high-rep DB benching, for example, or any isolation movements, then the cardio isn't really going to make that much of a difference.

If you're going to squat or deadlift at 80%+, then that's different.

When I cycle to the gym I sometimes train in my lycra, but not the padded cycling lycra. I wear running tights as leg warmers under my padded cycling pants.

But I usually only jog in them (on the treadmill) as they leave nothing to the imagination :o (then put the padded lycra back on to cycle home).

I actually think this is a funny thread and people reporting on what they find annoying.

Apart from the usual messy fvckers who won't return weights, or get dried off in the dry area of the locker rooms and only thing which really annoys me is non swimmers, or poor swimmers using the swimming lanes.

Other than that I think other peoples mad/bad gym habits are actually pretty funny :D

    REALLY ANNOYS ME.

This morning I had to take 200KG in 20KG increments off a barbell before I could use the area. I've never seen anyone in this particular gym squat (I assume) that weight correctly so who knows WTF they were doing.

Dollars to Doughnuts it was above the knee rack pulls.

What's up with blokes training in leggings under shorts? Is there a purpose or is it to mask the skipping of leg day?

I bought some tight fitting Lycra-cotton mix vests in Lidl today. I was all excited about wearing them to the gym. I should have checked in on this thread. It ruins everything.

I’m still going to wear them to the gym. I’m not doing it for vanity though. I really want people to see how hairy my shoulder blades are. They’re feckin epically hairy.

I have the same thing! Catch my reflection in the mirror, think I'm looking good, turn around and wonder who snuck the wooly shoulder pads on me when I wasn't looking.

Still, cushions the odd bit of standing calf press

It's not so much the men in lycra bit, it's wearing XS when you need XXXXXXXL that causes offence to the eyes.

Question: is there a piece of equipment in a gym more abused/misused than the Lat Pulldown Machine? Guy this morning practically swinging out of it on the upward motion, and his head was almost touching the floor on the pull motion - you had to see this to believe it. If I were the type to take my phone into the gym I'd have videoed it for those Gym Fail vids you see on YouTube. He was the worst I've seen in some time, but I must see at least one person per session do it incorrectly.

i wear lycra cycling shorts to the gym, but i have the common decency to wear normal shorts over them! i saw a guy in yoga pants the other day in RAW, not sure if he did some butt selfies in the changing room afterwards

While starting benching yesterday I get a bench wheel it into place, start with an empty bar and slowly build up from there.
After warming up with a couple of light plates a side, as I come back to the bench with a pair of twentys, a guy walks up to my bench and lay down on it as I'm standing there plates in hand (we have 9 other spots he can bench in).
When he ignored me and started to set up he got all butt hurt when I asked him was he OK, as I still stood there still holding the twentys
I'm very happy to have people work in if they like but don't barge into my spot and then blank me when I'm 2ft away

Bench press related story - saw a guy once benching let's say 80kgs (I forget exactly how much but that's not the funny part) on a Smith Machine....but....wait for it......he had 50kgs on one side and 30kgs on the other!

    Was so weird.

    Benching a pair of 20kg plates means 60kg ;)
