Feel for Kiss. Regardless of errors made, ulsters issues extend far beyond him.

Not gone on this recent trend of coaches leaving mid season either, Northampton and Ulster in the last few weeks.

Well it gives Kiss time to find a new job, it's probably better than hanging around as a lame duck.

Nothing will change, it's just rearranging the deck chairs. The day I hear about a structural reorganisation of the entire club is when I'll feel optimistic. The fact we now have a coach who doesn't want to be coach says it all.

If that doesn't begin to happen now it never will. Not sure what else needs to happen for the management structures at Ulster and the relevant IRFU people to realise that actual change is needed.

This. So many million times this.

Though I think the bolded bit should read "in charge".

A lot of the players want to take a damn good look at themselves in the mirror and think about what has happened.

Kiss wasn't working out and a lot of his selections were bizarre at times. However the boys that were picked to play didn't cover themselves in glory and certainly didn't make LK's job easy.

    Wonder if he's done playing?

    In-the-know on UAFC:

IRFU got involved a month ago, they wanted to get rid of Kiss but were worried Gibbes would leave as he doesn't want to be in charge. Gibbes has been asked to see it out to the end of the year and he'll get a new boss.

But- but- but player power / Ulster blazers / football fans!!!

If you're referring to Gibbes, I don't think that's accurate. I would say the opposite is true. All he wants to be is the coach and he doesn't want to deal with the political, media and PR crap. Get someone in to look after that stuff and leave Gibbes to coach.

So how long will the next DOR get? One season? 2? 3?

Some absolute gob****e just texted into Game On saying Kiss' demise was IRFU's fault for getting rid of Pienaar.

    I despair sometimes.

He’s the best defender on the team so hopefully it works out. Maybe Munster can give us a go at borrowing Farrell!

    Nah

He was so overcome with the news that his wife thought he was having a heart attack and the shock has sent her into labour

That's just making it more likely. I mean what else is the useless git able to do? ;)

Depends on whether the IRFU fires this one early as well.

Ah you know what I mean though, it's not about Gibbes' viewpoint, which is fine, it's the fact that they've gone ahead and put him in charge of all that anyway when he doesn't want to do it. It's emblematic of the structural problems of the club.

That's good news and possibly bad news all rolled into one.

That said he may be a terrible coach!

It has definitely worked out. Cooney could be the starter for the next five years. Pienaar at best would have gone for three more?

Tbh there hasn't been many egregious errors when cases like this have come up. Nathan Hines probably stands out. Leinster didn't properly replace him until Fardy arrived years later.

I'd agree a bit more with Cave if Cooney had been a talent that'd been kept out of the team by Pienaar's presence, but ultimately he's just another import.

    Where did he come from?

Have to say I thought at the time that Ulster should have been allowed keep Pienaar for another season but Cooney has been an excellent signing for them. He’s playing great and seems to be consistent.

Cooney has been better this season than Pienaar was last year. It's been a great move all round

Didn't Hines leave because he was only offered a one year deal because of his age rather than a 2 year contract whereas Pienaar was simply shown the door because he was holding back the 32 year old 200+ caps and Irish capped Paul Marshall.:D:D:D

Cooney has been very fine indeed but Pienaar is a different type of player. Given the sorry state of Ulster Rugby, the team would have been better with Pienaar here than not but I suppose we might not have attracted Cooney in that event. Cooney is now holding back Paul Marshall.

I suspect we will see quite a few players leave. I'm sure there are quite a few unhappy bunnies after the last 2 years of waffle and probably little change in the governance. There are some decent forwards under the shirts.
