I'm using an old Dell Latitude laptop, an €8 dvb-t dongle and a TBS 5520 DVBT/S2 dongle which you have to compile the kernel for.

There is an easier way to run TVHeadend on a neat little device hidden away & connected to your network. - https://www.geekbuying.com/item/MECOOL-KIII-PRO-DVB-T2-S2-TV-BOX-385441.html which you can boot into Librelec which has a TVHeadend server plugin. https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/5848-8-2-2-3-libreelec-8-2-for-s912/

The KIII box also boots to Linux https://forum.armbian.com/topic/2138-armbian-for-amlogic-s912/ if you wanted to run qBittorrent and a Plex server on it :-)

I bought it from their Italian warehouse - cost approx €109 all in - delivered in about a week.

Are you replacing the Dell with the Killbox.
It looks a very interesting machine.
It had only one tuner though - does that mean limitations in amount of channels you can record.

Do you use the Shield As well?

To be honest - there's very little on Live TV worth watching... let alone recording. There are two tuners in the KIII, one DVB-S2 one DVB-T

I set it up for a friend, in their attic, to serve the TVH Client in live channels on their Shield. My TVH server serves my shield, and my parents 200km away, and a friend in Australia for sports!

I use the shield as the front end for everything.

For those using the SATV for IPTV, there's a fairly good guide on Reddit to getting just the channels you want in Live Channels with logos epg etc and not the mad mess of 1000s of unwanted channels.

Using TVIrl and XTream editor. See the guide here https://www.reddit.com/r/IPTV/comments/6oo548/guide_to_setting_up_live_channels_for_android_tv/

credit to one of our own for this, @buddyf

Can that kill box be used on its own to take in terrestrial feed and then use a a plex server to share saorview to other plex devices?

No, the UI on the KIII is very poor.. you're better off sticking with Plex approved tuners to use with Plex.

Does Plex DVR work in Ireland?
Can you get the equivalent functions of TVHEADEND using Plex?

It works - you won't get an epg from graceote but will have to point it towards your guide xml.

Interesting , wonder is there many here using Plex as a DVR

Got to say I love Plex in general.
Went from WMC to XBMC to Plex years back and never looked back.
Lovely piece of software . Prefer it's UI to that of Netflix.

If it could take my satellite and saorview and record them then I think I'd use that.
Haven't really seen any info on it other than hdhomerun and users from states.

Quick question: I have the 2017 Shield with remote and controller. I'm thinking of buying a 2nd one to replace an old Win 10 HTPC which is just struggling a bit (it's a Dell Micro Inspiron 3050 which cost less than €100 3 years ago) and was wondering if it would be easy for the kids to use both controllers on both Shields as and when they wanted to e.g. there may be times when the TV in the family room is in use so they could take the controller for the shield on that TV and use it to play two person games on the Shield in the kitchen and vice versa or would they have to pair and unpair the "2nd" device each time?

I'd still like to know if I can do this ^^^^ but having looked on Amazon and trying out the £10 off using "BIGTHANKS" code I couldn't resist pulling the trigger on another shield with both remote and controller delivered to Dublin for €175, I don't think I'll get close to a Win 10 HTPC with decent specs for that so I'm going to double down on Android TV OS and Shield Hardware, at least it will mean a single set up for all the family to use.

Thanks xtal191 for the £10 code.

Thanks xtal191 for the £10 code.

You'd have got it for €169.92 if you paid in sterling with a Revolut card. Amazon always screw you on the exchange rate

Is it a used one from Amazon Warehouse at that price? Can only see it listed at £189.99

No, it's not a warehouse deal. It was £189.99 when I put it in my basket. I'm a Prime member and used the "BIGTHANKS" £10 off code and it somehow ended up being £148.32.

When I bought my first Shield before Xmas I somehow managed to get it for £133.30 or €155.97 delivered.

Perhaps I should get into the business of buying off Amazon at discount, add a commission and sell to Boardsies for less than £189.99!! Win win ;)

Hi all - I really want a good streaming box, I am currently using an old satellite box with apps to stream IPTV. I need to move on ! Looking at the Nvidia Shield - The questions I have are, whats the story with the games ? can you get them free ? Can you get cracked ones (Maybe this question is not allowed here), I suppose can someone give me the low down with using this as a gaming device ?

Google RetroX, MAME and Roms. Plenty of free stuff available as well as paid stuff too. It's a fantastic device. The speed/response of the unit is excellent. It's very well built, particularly the controllers. I've not really spent too much time on the games side but still love the device. The slim remote used for navigation is superb and super-slick. People say it's pricey but they are generally comparing the price tag with that of the cheapo Asian tripe from AE, BG, GB etc; Not saying that you can't get good android boxes, just that this is in a different league.

Buy it, if finances allow. It is without question one of the best 'gadgets' I've ever received.

    For what, exactly?

Android apps which aren't optimised for TV.

I think that the actual game controller joystick performs as the mouse pointer would. Does with the browsers anyway.

    That’s what I use

Ah, never realised that. I had one of those ' media' keyboards lying around (wireless mouse and keyboard in one), which I plugged into the Shield on the day I got it. Works like a charm and is very handy for text entry.

And other apps which shall remain nameless here.... But that the gaming controller will not work with
