I use smart iptv app from playstore. Costs €5.49 once off activation.
Much better epg that stbemu I think.
Can add favourites and easy to navigate via remote.
I have it on my Shield and two xiaomi mi boxes.

I use STBEmu, but also keep Perfect Player, as it is perfect for the people who prefer hassle free setup. Also many of the emulators (even when you change the box) have slight bugs with in Nvidia Shield and with different providers, so for example

XYZ may work very well with certain settings as MAG256
But ABC will not, but ABC is working with another box perfectly.

Sometimes it can be a bit of a headache depending on who provider is and what Emulator and which version etc..

Perfect Player removes many features, but usually just works OOTB (after details added).

I had Smart IPTV a few years back but it went buggy and all menus went Russian, i must go back to it and try it again.

    Edited:

You can add favourites in STBEmu....

I know it has the ability, but I can't get my controller to complete the action. If I plug a mouse/keyboard into my shield I can do it though. I also did see where you could view your favorites, it seemed to just leave a special mark beside the channel - but I assume I'm missing something there.

Inside the STBEmu app (or when it first starts Configuration) go to settings -> Configure key maps -> ADD KEY and give it an action (long press if suits better) and then Save Key at the bottom.

I have tried that. Neither my shield controller or TV controller seem to register during key mapping. Despite both working while changing channels etc within the app.

Have you tried changing the box that it was emulating? Mag or Aura?

Also, i forgot to mention in the pro version, you can download and use this - https://www.infomir.eu/eng/press-center/news/104-magic-remote/
    Or any of these https://play.google.com/store/search?q=MAG250%20remote%20control

Which is not really a solution for your issue, but is handy.

Some Emulators IPTV, GSE, STBEmu etc all work differently depending on setups. I guess it has to do with some conflicts maybe causing different bugs. Fwiw it is not just Shield that the bugs happen with. It is on many devices that run AndroidTV.

+1 for Smart IPTV for ease of use, speed and overall quality. Mapping the re/yellow/green/blue buttons remains somewhat of a mystery though. I use one of those mini wireless keyboards/remotes and there are several commands mapped to some of the letter keys on the keyboard but I havent found any instructions that clearly states what keys do what. If anybody has found a guide pls share

I just use IP TV in KODI with Flawless Hosting.

Works great and has a full EPG.

Their KODI addon configures everything for you and it populates the EPG Pretty fast.

Don't think I'll renew though, TV is rubbish, there are only so many reruns of Stargate and Nazi WW2 Documentaries you can watch :)

Just a heads up guys, please don't name IPTV services or specific Kodi add ons or the thread could end up getting closed.....like other similar threads did..... Don't ask for PM's about them either - just send a PM and say nothing. ;)

Apart from that, this thread is fantastic for all device users, so a big thank you to everyone for helping and sharing your knowledge. Long may it continue! :)

Does the Amazon prime video app work on this in Ireland?
I hate have to cast from my phone to firestick.

It does, I'm pretty sure it was already installed when I set up mine.

Loads won't play though because it's geolocked .

As far as I can tell it shows you the correct selection (i.e. International Prime Video) and there's nothing that it displays that won't play.

I used to have this problem. If you change your region setting to Ireland then it restricts the range to just the things that you can view.

Getflix is your man. There is a thread on bargain alerts with a 70% discount code. I got the lifetime sub last year and it worked great with Prime.

However I've also had to add a UK payment account to my Gmail account to get it to work. However with this I am no longer able to use my mobile billing to pay for purchases in the play store.

Thankfully i have this as my 4 or 2 yr old has hidden the remote and its signal isnt picked up my the shield so i have no idea where it is!

Incidentally i tried to pair my amazon gen 2 firestick remote and it worked perfectly apart from voice control which i never used .

Within the Amazon app , yeah?

Trying to remember, but I think I did it by logging onto primevideo.com which is their international site. Doing that forces a region change if I recall correctly.

Obviously don't do this if you are using a VPN or whatever.

+1 for Getflix. Got the lifetime deal a while back and has been working flawlessly for Amazon, Vudu, iPlayer etc. Don't use it with Netflix. Website and mobile app allow regions to be set, IP address update etc. etc.

Anyone using Windshield with it? Any joy?

Was using the windshield VPN app fine with it but today used a trial of smart DNS proxy and all is good so no data wasted on using the VPN.

You mean Shield HTPC, or Shield, HTPC (genuine question) I think i am misreading.

I have both, can not afford something like the leet/steiger dynamics from a few years ago, but the decent HTPC below €200 running LibreELEC/Linux MCE is still a better option imho.

recording/storage/life but not comparable either.. I know it can be done on both, and is the reason many prefer e.g. Plex, but the longterm option is my preference. It means every now and then adding extras, but if i legally record movies/sports/TV shows from the TV, then surely i am better set up to protect myself if the Copyright Police come knocking in the future, the way that they have done in Germany.

Quality is as good (on many HTPCs), and apps in Nvidia are as good as many others android boxes, albeit faster, unless you use Netflix/HBO and other paid licences - in which case they are better.
For now, these bugs are the reason i would limit my spending and recommend the same to others unless they wanted to spend. I feel myself going off on a tangent. I like the Nvidia shield, and it is good, but as with all Android devices for now, it is limited. With google closing down Android to mimic iOS, it will become eventually even more limited.
Android TV even more so, but for now, it is great.

Was wondering what you think as alternative on shield that has same value. i.e a box under €200.
From reading a number of threads most of the linux boxes have stability issues while the shield user base all seem in love with thing.

I was looking at a system for Netflix , Plex client ,YouTube , RTE player , Slingbox player.
But also a TV headend client where I can watch live TV or recorded Tv.

All this stuff I currently watch on a Windows player through a web browser apart from the TV headend which I don't have yet.

The Shield seems to take is all however some issues are seen with TV headend . Also like the option of an open operating system.

One thing I do find useful in Plex on windows is that if I have issues with playing a file for example audio out of sync with video I can grab the file in chrome browser and hit download which stores it locally , then open in VLC which sorts it out - would this be possible in the shield?

Anyone here using the shield with TV headend also?

I'm running a TVHeadend server on a headless ubuntu machine with DVB-S and DVB-T

Zero issues with TVHeadend client for live channels

I'm using an old Dell Latitude laptop, an €8 dvb-t dongle and a TBS 5520 DVBT/S2 dongle which you have to compile the kernel for.

There is an easier way to run TVHeadend on a neat little device hidden away & connected to your network. - https://www.geekbuying.com/item/MECOOL-KIII-PRO-DVB-T2-S2-TV-BOX-385441.html which you can boot into Librelec which has a TVHeadend server plugin. https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/5848-8-2-2-3-libreelec-8-2-for-s912/

The KIII box also boots to Linux https://forum.armbian.com/topic/2138-armbian-for-amlogic-s912/ if you wanted to run qBittorrent and a Plex server on it :-)

I bought it from their Italian warehouse - cost approx €109 all in - delivered in about a week.
