Was he in control in anyway shape or form though? Munsters were muck in the first half, better team won by far.

Positives for munster: the scrum, and character to come back. Plenty for JVG and JP to work on.

Eh? He was holding the ball and it touched the ground.

I don’t think it’s inconceivable at all. I expect Munster to win but won’t be a bit surprised if Leinster win. Lamour and Lowe should lighten up the game.

    What I tell ya

Could Old man Kearney make way for Larmour in a green shirt pls?

If larmour shores up his defensive and other obvious weaknesses

Not the first time I've been a little underwhelmed with Larmour's grounding. He's obviously not used to be caught as he crosses.

But to suggest he didn't ground that is ludicrous, it touched grass twice.

Big shout out to Ross Byrne. Those goal kicks were vital in the end, and they weren't easy at all. He really is a very good player.

I thought it looked like he lost it to the side of his body, but rolled onto it. Great run all the same.

You can actually hear Owens reacting to some of the steps. I'm not sure about the first one (sounds like "go on there boy", but equally could be something innocuous after the first break is made) but then when he steps Keatley it's a definite "Ooh".

    Lovely.

Harsh. Was a great cover tackle and he changed it to his left hand at the last second which was very impressive.

Delighted with that. But am I the only one who thinks that we need to talk about Stander? Another derby, another anonymous performance from him. It’s not just post Lions, it happens regularly against Leinster.

Great game of rugby. Both teams served up a right dinger. Leavy, conan, larmour, wooten, scannel. So much young talent. All is very bright in Irish rugby, bar Ulster, at present

Yes but the standard of rugby was twrrible

Delighted with the win, delighted that Munster got back into the game as Ireland suffers when the provinces are under performing.

That said it's a warning sign to Munster that the knock outs are going to be wars and they need to be better than they were today. The second half is the standard they need to start setting on a regular basis.

Leinster have definitely benefited from the ferocious intensity of the double header and were more prepared for today as a result. Larmour and Lowe made some big errors but were sensational going forward.

Pack all delivered and Murphy and Leavy were the best of the back rows on display. James Ryan played better than Toner today, but Toner is better at using his size and weight in the contact zone and doesn't get hurt as a result, Ryan needs to start picking up on this but his gainline success was phenomenal when he took on the ball. He was also always looking for it. The day he get's as robust as he is hungry for work is the day we see something really special.

Some of our early scores were sucker punches we won't always get so I was glad to see us register scores in the second half when it was all going Munster's way.

All that said, it's one country and whilst it's fun to spar against our own the real challenges lie ahead in Europe and the six nations. Best of luck to Munster and Leinster on the road ahead and I can't wait for the Six Nations.

    Happy Christmas lads.

Well, he did have €50 on a Leinster win and an acca with Larmour to score ...he's going to buy Lacey's family an Indian tonight!

I don't think Brits are allowed to buy Indians anymore..

The words you are looking for are line speed and it's not just Leinster. He isn't big or nimble enough to make serious ground when tackled early, he needs to come onto the ball at pace (and he is quick so he tends to come on at considerable pace).

His defence is incredible though. Gives no ground away and rarely misses them.

He's the rugby equivalent of a flat track bully. Looks great against inferior teams, but hasn't much to offer when he can't deliver go-forward ball.

Is it? 14 tackles made and 2 missed today. Conan was 13 made and 1 missed. Kleyn made 15 and missed none. Stander carried a lot (18 times) but to very little effect (18 metre made, only 4 passes made). What actions of his can you remember from the game?

Loved with the try how Larmours first instinct was to start running without sizing up his options. Stretched the defence and allowed him to isolate individual defenders. Was like an nfl punt return. His poke through for the penalty try was a great bit of vision as well.

A noticeable thing about the young Leinster forwards is how intelligent they are with their bodies going into contact, excellent coaching going on there. Limited Munster to very few turnovers today. Ryan is particularly good at bringing a couple of defenders to ground with him and presenting clean ball.

As a Leinster fan, I'd like to apologise to Munster for sending such a weakened team and disrespecting the Munster lads. :)

Special mention to Ross Byrne also. His goal kicking represented a big step forward for him today. Theres been a few games this season where his ball striking has been superb.

I disagree. He's a leader and a ferocious competitor. He puts in hits others can't without hurting themselves and he is technically superb in the contact zone in the way the likes of James Ryan really need to learn.

He is better for Ireland where the organisation generally allows him to get the most out of his game.

He also has a huge amount of heart and unless you've someone a good bit better or critical to your gameplan you pick Stander.

23 tackles for Big Dev - another amazing contribution from the great man! What a marvellous player he has become in the past couple of seasons.

And to think that the BT commentators juice their briefs whenever Courtney Lawes makes more than ten tackles in a game!

Ryan isn't a Bosch merchant so wonder what he could learn from stander. He is a different style of player and takes contact on the extremities of his opponents shoulders by taking the ball wide and at space. His presentation of the ball when tackled is good enough also so don't know where you've developed your opinions on ryan!

Definitely a "go on" but a few Leinster lads nearby so could have been one of them.

    Gas all the same.

To put a positive slant on things, I'm really enthused about Wootton's development. He needs to tidy up some aspects (kicking for example) but he's quick on his feet and well able in the physical stakes.

I really enjoy watching Wootton play, from what I’ve seen of him, I reckon he will definitely wear green and pass Sweetman soon enough. Appears to have it all.

I'm not sure what the problem was for Munster in the first half. Be it a lack of organisation, accuracy in play or intensity they weren't at all good. Probably a mixture of all three I think. They weren't at the same level as Leinster.

The second best performance of the day is the good posters of boards.ie for not falling for the clear bait that has been repeatedly spewed on this thread :)
