Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

PSNI staff recruitment 2017

The CDO role was formerly administered by the private sector security firm, Noonan (formerly Federal) (who I also think provide security on police station doors). The PSNI has since absorbed them, Anyway, there are a few reviews on indeed.co.uk for CDO's from ex Noonan colleagues who didn't recommend it as a great place to work, citing security risks and culture.

I think dispatching vis a vis call handling would be far more stressful and I think the pay scales reflect that. Call handlers deal with non emergency inquiries, dispatchers allocate resources on potentially life and death matters.

Out of them all, if you value your sanity, I think call handling is the most preferential. P.S Would anyone else feel like a bit of a dick if they accepted a dispatcher job and then resigned a few weeks later when they get into Garnerville?

Yeah CDO’s and Call Handling were orginally recruited by Noonan.

Call Handlers are the 1st point of contact when the 999 calls come in so potentially you would be dealing with life and death situations. Id say its a tough enough job, you dont know what the call is gonna be when you pick up that phone.

I wouldnt be too worried about accepting a job and leaving though .. Im sure it happens pretty often.

Does anybody know if psni send an acknowledgement email after you send your application in?

I did not receive on either. If nothing comes in in a few days I'd ring 101 and confirm

Call handlers take 999 and 101 calls and being a call handler is more stressful than you can imagine. One minute you've someone suicidal on the phone the next it's someone's lost their dog or wants to speak to an officer.

It's a varied job and dispatch is also great both jobs come with different stresses and each I'd unique to the roll they perform.

Do not apply for call handling or dispatch if you think you are in for an easy non stressful job it's long hours and constant and you are not always staffed the greatest especially weekends. Just something to bear in mind

Ok so I rung them there and they confirmed they got my application, they said the system DID NOT send out acknowledgments and if you wanted one you had to ask for it.

That’s good, well good that they got it and not so good for us... I wonder is it worth me ringing too just to confirm that they got mine?

I just selected option 3 when you ring up and then just ask to speak to somebody regarding recruitment, after that just explain you want to know if they got your application

Just called there, after being transferred at least 4/5 times I then got someone who was able to tell me that because I sent mine on the 7/8th December that they Equality department hasn’t sent it to HR yet.... Was told to ring back in a few days to see if they had received it yet, by which time recruitment will have been closed and if they don’t have it then I have missed out....

Hey. Did anyone have an issue ticking the box at the bottom of the application form?
My computer won’t seem to let me tick it or place a tick in the box?

Surely you're going to have to print it off to sign it? Just tick the box with a pen.

Does anyone know of any time scales with these things from application to interview?

So you printed it and scanned it in again? I assumed with the form being able to be edited that it was all done on the computer.

    Did you enable editing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

If you accidently opened it as read only it will only let you fill in text boxes and won't let you use formated things like tick boxes

Am... That tick box is an uneditable auto ticked box. By signing your name and dating it you are agreeing. Sorry to say you have wasted time

Thanks Banterbus. I was able to get it working on a PC, wouldn’t work on my Mac.
The equality monitoring form still doesn’t Work properly but got the tick working 😊

I did. Just got a reply stating there had been a large number of applications and they were still processing so would hear in due course. Didn't give a timescale unfortunately.

I should add I just got this reply today.

I got an email to say my application form didnt download properly and to resubmit. I think I will take that as a sign that it wasnt for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

I heard nothing but I did ring the day after I submitted the app and mine was received

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Lockie101

Any more news on this? I got the email also asking me to resubmit my Equality Monitoring form because of a printing problem back when it closed
