Update coming this week with channel list? What happens if you actually reorganised the channels yourself? Please don’t tell me there now going to overwrite the order........

You will end up reorganising them anyway as they place bbcni and utv high up (not in HD) while itvhd is further down. Not a huge issue as you can just use 'page down' to quickly go through the new channel list. 49 channels on it.

Damnit RTÉ you’ve overwritten my custom channel numbers

FFS they don't mention in the ad at all that you can connect this box to a dish to get all the UK channels

    Yep.

This will keep happening, unless you can turn off automatic updates.

I'd asked the question earlier about backing up your channels to a USB stick for this very reason.

Everytime they update the channel list this will happen. They are effectively controlling your channel list.

I saw the order posted earlier. Its a joke as it follows no particular proper ordering anyway.

God knows what confusion it will cause to the non technical user.

    @Keri Billen.

    A logical channel list is.

Hi I have saorview ariel and sky at the moment.

My contract is up with Sky in March. I'm thinking of switching to Saorviww connect.

Can anyone recommend someone to install?
Will the installer provide the box or should I buy one myself?
How much should I cost all in?

In general are people happy with the saorview connect box? Does it work as well as advertised?

You can simply buy a saorview connect box and plug in your aerial and one of the satellite cables yourself . You can always get a service call afterwards if you still need it.

You do need decent broadband to avail of the rollback/on demand tv.
If it is good enough you may not need to connect any cables for internet access - it will work over wifi.

I'm really late to the party here so apologies if this has been covered earlier but can I use my Humax box to decode signals for Soarview now because of the new Connect product?

I've been using Humax for a few years for the Freesat channels and my TV has a tuner for Soarview so I was happy enough with that but if I can combine the two that would be great. I just can't see how the EPG would work.

Failing that, what's the best Soarview Connect box on the market? I presume it's really limited at present so if it's best to hold off until 2018 that's cool.

Best? There is one. There will only ever be one.

Chris. No your Humax wont pick up the Saorview signal.

If you want a box that does Saorview and Satellite channels in one combined channel list with 7 day epg for both you are looking at an Enigma2 Combo box, like the one mentioned a few pages back (Formuler F1 is the cheapest right now less than 100).

    Not true.
There will be a saorview terrestrial only connect box plus tv manufactures will have the option to integrate Connect into their future tvs.

    Thanks Harry & STB,

There was a post earlier in the thread that seemed to mention it but I just can't see how it could possibly work. At a guess the new Soarview Connect boxes just have an additional Sat decoder which could pick up Freesat but could not do an EPG for it? Kind of like how you can pick up non-Sky channels on a Sky box or non-Freesat on a Freesat box.

I'll look into that recommendation. Any suggestions for a good and discrete indoor ariel? I have a small but flaky rabbit ears thing which I'm ok with but the rest of the family complain about its stability.

Regardless the software will only be what saorview use and it's hard to see anything else that can differentiate one brand from another bar price. It's a pretty dumb box.

    Thanks Harry & STB,

There was a post earlier in the thread that seemed to mention it but I just can't see how it could possibly work.

How would what work ? Combined 7 day epg ? It doesnt exist on the Saorview Connect box. The sat and saorview stations are not even integrated in one list on the Saorview Box. IT does exist on the Enigma 2 Combo boxes.

At a guess the new Soarview Connect boxes just have an additional Sat decoder which could pick up Freesat but could not do an EPG for it? Kind of like how you can pick up non-Sky channels on a Sky box or non-Freesat on a Freesat box.

Indoor aerials are flaky. They pick up all types of interference. Mobile phones/wifi etc all interfer with them.

Outdoor aerials dont necessarily have to be on your roof. You can place them in your attic.

Anybody care to comment on this T2 / S2 Android box?

    https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Freesat-GTC-Amlogic-S905D-2GB-16GB-TV-BOX-389145.html

€85 is the current price - As a reasonable replacement for a combi-box - it appears to "fit the bill" - with the addtion of a media box thrown in for good measure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

I see on the freesat box the bbc channels give you the option of watching a programme from the beginning if you switch to it some minutes in.

Something that might come to the Connect box in time.

Be wary they are using the freesat name but I have yet to hear of an official Freesat combo. It seems to only have 1 DVB-S tuner so no recording while watching another.
Sometimes if it seems too good to be true.....

I assume you're referring to the freesat box as in Humax etc rather than the Freesat referred to above from Geekbuying ( to avoid confusion)

Well its not a freesat box. The company are called freesat. They are based in China. I have one of their products. Its about the size of a packet of cigarettes. Its not what you are looking for unless you are into chasing powervu feeds :)

It does seem, at the price of €85, to be reasonable value for money.
OK, it is a FTA box, not 'Freesat UK', but does claim to have 7 day EPG.
If the tuners are good then it should suit people who do not require multiple tuners.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has this device ..... how quick is the switching between channels etc .......

They are not the only ones misleading people.

Tesco have freeview boxes saying you can get the same players when you can't. Needs to be a crackdown there.

Do they actually know what they are selling? Someone go in and ask for an in store demo!

The Saorview Connect remote will control your tv once you pair it with the remote code for your tv. These codes are in the connect user manual.

The remote will then control the tv's volume, power on/off tv and select source inputs through the 'av' button. You don't have to switch between modes.

My setup is going ok so far. As I said before the saorview remote also operates the freesat box and vice versa. I am having issues where my hdmi splitter is switching by itself between saorview input and freesat input. This normally happens when I am pressing buttons on the remote - not a problem when just watching a channel. I guess the splitter has a problem with both boxes being 'on'. I am powering the splitter through the usb port on the freesat box as my tv doesn't have one.

I guess by having both boxes you have the benefit of 4 tuners. This will mean I can watch rte1, record rte2 and record 2 channels on freesat if I wish.

The only problem I see down the line is when recording functions are enabled on the connect box. If I press the rewind/pause live tv button it will do it on both boxes. Maybe not a huge issue but I wonder if I will get issues when trying to record and what might happen on the other box.

Have there been any updates to software on the new box? Is it becoming more user friendly with UK FTA yet?

Tg4 player is now available in the On Demand section of Saorview Connect. Some of the rugby highlights seem to be in HD though not all of the latest highlights are up. Maybe there is some delay in putting them up.

The rollback for TG4 won't be available until the new year I think.

TG4 maybe available but the box won’t remember a manual IP address
