    Hi Guys,

Has anyone in the new houses along Royal Canal Avenue managed to get their broadband installed yet?
Talking to Eir they have suggested an issue with the BB line on the road which won't be fixed until the 6th December.

I am having massive problems with Eir , but have not been told that .
I had two missed installs , still no explanation
Finally got installed on Monday 6 days late.
First two TV boxes failed to work
TV went down an hour after install
Was told would have to wait till Tuesday to do tests.
Tuesday broadband went down , was told it was faulty modem
Modem was sent would be their Thursday , never arrived Thursday ,claimed van broke down
    .
Collected modem this morning , also does not work ,support technician could not identify fault have a reinstall booked for Monday .

Technician today explicitly told me I could walk away now and owe Eir nothing , refused to confirm this was a suggestion !

That said I did have broadband for 24 hours and TV for 1hour so infrastructure is there

What speeds were you getting for that one hour of service!?

Thanks Bandana, sorry to hear you're having that kind of trouble

We've decided to not give them the business based on poor experiences we've heard from friends & family. Our preference was virgin media but they're not in the area so it's Vodafone for our broadband and Sky for TV. We need them to activate the connection to the house before we can go any further, so that's why I had asked if anyone else had the same spiel from them.

Was with Virgin and their previous incarnations for last 8 years in our old house , I think I had two calls in that time with them , one for a replacement modem and one for a hard drive failure on the TV box , both dealt with in one 3-4 Min conversation , with replacements shipped promptly and in good working order .

Since my first call with Eir to accept their deal I have spent over 3 hours on the phone over 5 calls just trying to get set up , taken 4 days of work and 1 more required on Monday .
I am now caught between sunk value into Eir and walking away to Vodafone .

I believe Virgin are at least a few years away from entering our area as a competitor , I suspect when they do though they will mop up all the business .

I'm curious what speeds people are getting with Eir in the area. Especially on bridge avenue. Seem's much slower than I would have expected.

I'm told Digiweb is another available option in the area with a faster service than Eir. We'll move in early next year, I truly hope the internet situation will improve by then!

67 Mbps down, 19 Mbps up, as of right now. Used to be around 90 Mbps before you guys at Bridge Avenue moved in ;)

Vodafone, Eir, Magnet, Pure, Digiweb are all reselling the same service provided by OpenEIR. You're unlikely to see any quality difference between providers.

For us we're getting 80mbps on a 100mbps line which would be fine except the line is flaky as ****. Thats the thing that really makes for a bad experience. It's not the absolute speed that matter after a certain point its the browsing experience or youtube videos stalling etc.

line quality wise, all providers are the same, but customer service wise, vodafone are leaps and bounds ahead. Eir messed me about for 6 weeks, wasted 3 days off work and tried billing me for no service. Vodafone had me onlin 3 days after contacting them.

Anyone have trouble with the backsplash in the kitchen, i.e with it melting or catching fire?
If so, did you resolve it yourself or is it something the management should look after?

Didnt realize its just perspex, and when cooking today, a large pot on one of the back rings of the hob started melting the backsplash.
It seems like a fire hazard to me. Why they decided to put perspex there and not a tile is beyond me.

The kitchen company is currently in the process of replacing all the backsplashes with glass. After a few cancellations and no-shows for measuring our kitchen, a new person took over this project and we had one of their people take measures about 2.5 weeks ago. He said the lead time for a new backsplash was 3-4 weeks, so we're hoping to get a new one soon. I assume other houses will be contacted on an ongoing basis.

    Speed Bumps on Bridge Avenue:

the site foreman tells me these will be reinstated once the apartment block on the corner of Bridge Ave (opposite Romayos) is complete (quite soon). If anyone (Bridge Ave Residents in particular) is interested in discussing let me know as the type of speed bumps put down can have a bearing on the noise levels (not to mention speed levels) on the street so we may (as a group) want to get involved in any decision making process involved here. PM me if interested.

Good. Some reckless speeding around. Also not sure what the story is though as the roads are meant to be taken over by the council...

Engineer arrived today , identified a problem back at the Fiber box and Fixed it.
So far so good and Internet and TV has been up and running about 12 hours.
Few issues with TV box but reformatted it and all working good now .

Probably need to see it up for a week without issue to be totally happy but I think I would re talk to Vodafone as the service is definitely there.

Broadband is fine , better out there but more than meets my needs.

Do Vodafone/eir put router in the utility room?

They put it in Utility room after I asked for it there, but they wanted to put it in the hallway and I had to insist on the utility room .

Nice one, thats actually exactly where I want it also! :). Wasn't sure whether I'd have to get someone else to do it or whether they would do it during install.

Yes, I've noticed it's often the same people who are speeding and they should know better.
It would be worthwhile clarifying the speed limits in the RCP and Rathborne area as any markings I've seen are faded.

Did they have to bring cable along the skirting to do that. Or are the cables hidden?

Cables are hidden , he found the cables already installed and drilled the wall ,beside the power socket , below the grey box in utility room , and hooked in at that point .

There should be no reason to bore the wall.
Cable comes into the house in the lowest box just outside the front door.
It comes in as far as just inside the front door, there is a socket blank behind which is the cat 5.

Behind this blank is also a cable leading to the utility. engineer just has to join these cables and the cable in the utility is now active.
In the utility there is also a socket blank ,behind which are the network cables.

Do you know if this is in all of the houses or just older ones?

Just moved in recently and the back garden is extremely waterlogged. The drainage seems to be really bad. Anyone else having any issues?

That's the way it is at the start. Drainage isn't really an issue as the ground dries out very quickly. The soil however is extremely poor and once it dries out it will be like concrete.

I had Munster Joinery out to sort out a few stiff hinges recently.
As the houses are very new, they settle and move, and windows get stiff. If you have any problems its highly recommended to contact munster in within the first year while everything is under warranty. Their guys are really good.

Munster advised me to paint the windows with an oil based paint within 1 year. They cant use it in the factory due to environmental concerns.
Its a bit odd they would only put water based paint on their windows but thats a question for another day.

As this is the front of the house, should this be done by the management company?

The management company only maintain the plant beds to the front and possibly the driveways. The house itself is the owners responsibility as far as I know. But if you find out otherwise let me know.

And, thats interesting about the windows, if you are looking into getting it done let me know as I might also. But I expect it would be ok till next year.

I'd be up for it also if anyone is making a list. Perhaps this is something that can be arranged in the Facebook group.
