    He's a hairy brute.

    I just cannot understand it.

You cant understand why he uses a hairdryer to dry all his hair.

Its probably a treat. Like a sit-down pîss

    Unsolicited spotting.
I unrack a reasonably heavy bench, some lad immediately runs in behind to spot me. 3rd rep in he walks away. I did six reps, it wasn't heavy for me but did put me off.
I give him the benefit tho, he must've thought I was going to be stapled

He probably thought he was being dead sound, in fairness.

He was being distracting though. It hard to bench when some walks into your eye line.

The most annoying thing for me is when people don't unload the bar/put weights back in the right place.:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭Bosupe

What about leaving ALL the bars loaded and wandering off? Are you finished? Mid set? Should I use unloading 200kg as my warmup? Does your mum still pick up everything at home?! Gggrrrrrrrrrr!

I noticed more of a culture of putting weights back creeping into Flyefit lately. Most people are good about dumbbells but it's rare to see people putting plates back; moreso lately.

They have employed some uppity little gym nazis to tell customers to put them back. Might explain the sudden change in attitude ;)

    I'd call them gym angels.

It's not even a proper annoyance but there's an under 20s team using my gym for a few group sessions a week. I'm only about 10 years older than them but to see how knowledgeable they are, the quality of coaching they get and how strong a lot of them are makes me jealous that I'm not 10 years younger. I'm not even annoyed, I'm just impressed.

Was at the gym the last day and there was a girl who was doing some box step ups in the middle of the gym, she had two 7.5kg dumbells and she just threw them on the ground next to the box, she wasn't even struggling to carry them.
I've grown to accept the ignorance of gym goers but this really pissed me off, if it was 20kg and she was struggling I could kind of understand but 7.5kg...it was just pure laziness, the staff saw her do it as well and said nothing.

I agree. If I'd only known the simple things - good footwear, good mobility, good nutrition - at the age of 18 I'd be in a much better place now. It's never too late to start, but I am envious of the young lads starting out in the gym who pay close attention to form and nutrition.

doing chin-ups this evening and I could see a guy in the mirror walking straight towards me. Next thing mid rep he's tapping me on my side,I jump down ask him what the hell is going on and he asks have I many left. I nearly walked out in shock after what happened...

That's a situation where the answer should include '**** off'.

    And nothing else.

Has anybody mentioned needless shouting and unnecessary guffawing yet?

For some reason it's usually the irish older lads with the shaved heads and the beetroot-red faces who seem to spend thier time shouting.

Maybe it's so they can be heard above the sound of the weight stack being dropped after every rep and final CLANG when the set is finished.

Had the double of someone who left sweat all over the bench and their weights on the bar. Took a look around to see if there was anyone mid-set or anything, but nope, just sheer laziness.

Then a class started up, blaring its boom boom music. Choice is to either give in and listen to the music available or turn mine up more, possibly deafening myself and annoying others!

    🤪

You should have apologised profusely and immediately stood aside to allow him use the equipment. Big man like that shouldn't have to wait.

There are always a few of those 'dig me' merchants. But this morning I'd have gladly listened to one of them over the guy doing a circuit in the weights area. When he hit his barbell rows he was bent over, eyes closed, with his big blue headphones on, making what can only be described as sex noises. Most of the women on their way up to a Pilates class gave him WTF looks. Towards the end of his routine he was doing it in the leg press machine too. If only there was an emoji for the Simpsons' shudder.

There is now a sign on our leg press machine telling folks it's not for calf raises :)

    Wha..how?!?

In my gym, I always end up doing the leg day at the same time as one particular girl (even this week I changed up to afternoon rather than morning, still there!) On the leg press machine, she always gets in before me and never locks it!! This means I have to unrack her weights, squeeze myself in, press it up once, lock it, re-rack my own weights and then start.

Don't 'squat' and push off with your toes, keeping your legs straight.

Why? Does your gym have an actual calf raise machine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,951 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Two guys (friends) were alternating on the leg press, so I loitered nearby waiting for a couple of minutes, then I go up and ask politely if they have many sets left. "Just the one" - oh great says I. :)

In reality that transpires to be the guy currently using it finishing off his current set, followed by both of them doing another one set each. Still grand-ish. However, each set comprised: 20 wide stand, 20 narrow stance, 20 left leg, 20 right leg, drop set of 20 to finish. I was literally waiting another 7-8 minutes, and could have done something else. Could they not have said "Just the one, but they are very long sets" or "Just the one but we'll probably be a good five mins" etc.:mad:

    I like this :)

I totally get that it's a legit exercise on the leg press machine, but it still really annoys me when I see people doing them for some reason :pac::pac::D

(Maybe because I literally have never done a single calf exercise in my life :o:o)

Honestly never seen or heard of that, I'm sure there's a reason for it but it just seems lazy! "I want the benefits without having to stand."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,764 ✭✭✭✭Alf Veedersane

The movement isolates the calf muscles. You dont need to stand to do that.
