Which is generally the better day for the Bray air show Sat or Sun ?
Sunday has extra acts, including the Spanish jets. Last year I think the Red Arrows were only Sunday-only(?)

Related question: I haven't time to spend all afternoon there this year - what is my best bet time window to see noisy jets, inc. the main act (Spanish)? I think the Red Arrows were the final act last year(?) I can't remember what point the Italian jets were on, though I think they made a brief farewell flypast before the Arrows.

No Red Arrows or Italian teams this year , only real noise will be the Spanish F18 depends on how close he comes to the shoreline, last year the Viggen was way out and took away the noise.

Does anyone know if the catalina lands and takes off on the water as part of its display?

Thanks. (Didn't mean to imply I thought Arrows and Italians were on this year.) Yes, shame about the distance on the Viggen last year; I was in Bray at lunchtime on the Friday when either the Viggen or Draken was doing a practise run, and it might have been closer then(?)

Reds opened last year iirc and it was cloudy so the display was the restricted one then some clown started that fire, Italians were near end/closed with half the beach heading home in the middle of the best display you'll ever see. Fools.

Order of appearance doesn't be released or wasn't last year anyway.

Spanish is really the only draw this year, real shame, I was expecting something really special with the foynes link up. If the weather is anyway bad all the other acts will be hard to see/hear out over the water.

Ah, that may have been it now I remember a bit more - I think the Reds had to go on early, and I remember the weather-related constraint they had on going high. Snce the Italians were also a high-profile act (yes, it was great :D), they were a good alternative show-closer. I know there is never any info on order, but wonder if it is safe to assume the Spanish will be near the end, though?

With this years line up, I'd say you'd could bet the house it'll be the finisher.

I once saw it land on fresh water on Lough Erne but very much doubt it would land in the sea, given the range of risks that would involve.

I forgot what plane it was but some pilot had a long hard look at the water at Foynes 2 years ago with the intention of landing, he flew the whole flight line twice barely a foot over the water but bailed out in the end, water must need to be as close to kitchen sink calm to do it.

Going to the Bray airshow for the first time on Saturday. Access wise if I was coming from wexford side is it best to park in Graystones and get Dart the rest of the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,012 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

Yes, thats probably the easiest and quickest way. Last year I parked 400m from Graystones station about an hour before the flying was supposed to start, arrived in Bray, went to the beach and got a good spot.

Just caught a glimpse of 4 PC9's leaving casement. Maybe heading to bray for some practice runs?

Edit, they just seem to be staying around casement. Put on a nice show though

The Spanish F18's are listed on the show site as Sunday-only, so would they be here already?

Heard it, came in low enough over Shankill. Clouds made it hard to spot though.

Thanks. Do you have any idea of the route it’s likely to take from the coast to Casement? Wonder if it will do a practise manoeuvre over Bray or elsewhere.

Assuming the Draken is coming also, do you know its reg #? I tried to find it, but failed.

Viggen rapidly approaching Dublin, keep an ear out in the next 5 mins.

He's turned and approaching north of Dundalk now.

Thanks everyone for all the great info here. I think I read earlier there's a Spitfire to appear in Bray on Saturday. I'd hate to miss that, is there anyway to find out what time roughly it will appear?
I'm tied for time, but this is love :D

Was at the east end of the runway hoping he'd do a flyby but no joy, hardly heard any noise out of it
