Ned umber Alice Karstark two pivotal book characters weirdly used, Nice Cameo towards the end, made me jump as much as Sam did.

Ser Jorah. Not exactly a "cameo" tbh!

Ned Umber is no one, I was mistaking him for Eddard (Ned) Karstark who dies.

You'd think Stannis would've locked the doors when he left

They'll want to pick up the pace a little with only 13 hours left, but fairly acceptable as the first episode back and a very good one in my opinion.

I thought it was an excellent opening and I like that they got a lot of things that could have been dragged on out of the way (The Frey's getting their comeuppance, Dany reaching Dragonstone).

As much as I like Ed Sheeran I thought he was a bit pointless in it.

What was the point in Ed Sheeran, and the bloody singing! UGH!

But great episode, didnt realise how much I missed GoT.

Yeah I was hoping the pace would pick up but great setup. Pretty much established the focus and cut away a lot of the old stuff.

Euron was quite unnerving I thought.

Wasn't looking forward to it when I saw him but he had one line (and hard to tell but I think one of the other guys was leading the singing?) so not really bothered either way personally.

Thought his reaction to The Mountain stepping forward was brilliant, and the look he gave him when he leaned in slightly even more.

Really liking Pilou Asbaek in that role, very random by the way having two Danish lads sharing scenes in the biggest show possibly ever but Waldau has been excellent throughout and Asbaek is very much looking the part two. Saw a gas comment on reddit over his garb though - "you don't sail the 14 seas without getting a little bit funky". :pac:

While ya, tad random having Sheeran I still really liked the scene with Ayra and the Lannister soilders- the way she didn't trust them, looking for their swords, then being wary of the wine (she did just murder people using poison so fair enough) then seeing the Human side of conflict's and how most soilders (one hoping their child a girl so they don't have to serve) don't particularly give a sh!te about the wars they're involved in

(Was one of the soilders the kid from This Is England?)

I still don't know about Euron, loved him in the book's, especially the released chapter from TWOW, but he doesn't seem to flow with shows narrative quite yet

Once again, The Hound gets best lines in the show- "baldy cnut"

Guessing there's gonna be a big ass battle up at East Watch

Anytime a "good" character says something like "I'm going to do X" it never happens. I can see Arya getting sidetracked or deciding not to continue her quest.

Tormund's sexual looks at Brienne make me laugh every damn time.

Good episode but felt it was missing something... 7/10 for me. The Hound scenes were the best for me, love that character.

I'm still convinced that Gilly's baby is a whitewalker spy... :D

Yup, Thomas Turgoose iirc. Seemed a little out of place tbh but then he'll probably never shake that old character

Decent enough episode, obviously they still have to have setup episodes but at least now there won't be 7 of them per season.

Yep he seems to have found what he was looking for. Something he can believe in or a higher power, as opposed to following orders and killing people.

Ed Sherran was the Tom O'Sevens ain't gonna happen ode. Conor Mcgregor is due in a later episode hopefully Euron makes him walk the plank don't get these celebrity shoe horned roles, Ian McShane playing Elder Brother last season was class but bringing in a (so many vulgar choices) for a 30 second cameo is head wrecking

Oh praise the seven the Long Night is over. As its the first new episode of the season I would have watched an hour long single scene of Sam cleaning beadpans and be somewhat satisfied.

As a stand alone episode though I would say it's only average as it is just a pure setup and that all major characters only get a sliver of screentime. The most eventful moment happens in the opening 3 minutes. I would predict that with the cast rumours of major epic battles in this 7 episode season this is necessary and characters will get meatier time in future.

Arya really stole the show for me. Her walking through a hall of dead freys was powerful, a dark, brutal and vengeful opening. You'd almost think she's gone full bad until she meets the band of Lannisters. She's reluctant to eat the meat as she then couldn't kill them but she finally she's beyond their red cloaks to the sons, fathers and "musicians" they are, then she eats. It's a credit to the show to highlight the greyness of War, as GRRM shows that those that fight for an evil queen/king/lord aren't evil but are just taking orders to feed themselves and their loved ones.

The Hound and Arya are almost going in opposite directions. As she is getting colder the hound is gaining more humanity. He regrets the actions of his past and is proactive in addressing them and giving them a correct burial. He also called out manbuns for the modern day comb-overs they are.

The non-verbal walk of Dany was beautifully shot, even confident strides, her gaze remains on the castle from the ship, her royal council follow in silence. And then almost business like she looks from the throne to the war room and wants to get cracking.

The little rift between Jon and Sansa was interesting especially with LF twirling his moustache and watching. We do get an insight into the motivations of the maesters and even though they have the knowledge they choose to remain passive and to record events and learn. However the surgeon maester does say that the wall has always stood but yet if/when the wall falls it will highlight how this time the Long Night is different.

The Hound, Beric, Dany, Jon so many could be Azor Ahai. I nearly sobbed when the Hound copped that house was the **** chicken house, he knew what was waiting in there. His remorse now seems to be what is driving him forwards, Melisandrea hopefully resurfaces soon and joins with Beric and his merry men.

The light of the seven cut with the Rains of Castamere suits Cersei so well, the rains has been well over used in the show over time but combining both gives such a menacing edge to Cersei. Offering or alluding to a marriage pact with Euron is another nail in the coffin for her and Jaime wonder what will it take for him to end her, Bran and Dolores Ed scene was interesting, not Castle Black as far as I could tell think it may have been the shadow tower.

Disappointing episode. F**k all happened to move the story on and the Ed Sheeran and Sam stuff just seemed so pointless.

Was it not rabbit stew? When the man and his daughter couldn't get over Arya and the Hound slurping away and spilling all over the place?

The chicken house was when Arya got her revenge on Polliver and the Tickler.

This is what I thought too.

Yes it was the place where the girl made rabbit stew.

Arya has unfinished business, the Hound scenes made me sad, Wun Wun scared the ****e out of me, this is gonna be the best tv show ever this season. I'm trying to place the Archmeister know I've seen him somewhere.

    Jim Broadbent

Slater from Only Fools and Horses, The Barman from the crying game, loads of other things

I was disappointed, but only because we've been waiting so long for a new episode, and this one was used to prepare for future episodes. I know it needed to be done, but I wish they could have included something more.
There was very little memorable in the episode, and in future re-watches, I imagine it will get flicked through quite quickly
