people in class not getting their own gear. Instructor says we need kettle bells for swinging and boxes for jumps, I get mine set out and start on the machine and when i go to use kettle bell some numpty is using it then she proceeds to my box - so i have to wait or get another wasting my time, why can't they get their own like I did??

I remember something I meant to complain about: I saw a trainer showing someone how to deadlift, but her form was horrible and the trainer stood beside her cheering the client on, offering no corrections. Like, this is your job. Why don't you have basic competency in your job?

I've seen that plenty in commercial gyms too. Two possible reasons for it: 1. The PT actually doesn't have a clue, or 2. The PT just doesn't care (probably because they get paid shît and their work environment sucks). Either way, infuriating.

Had to get that in there, eh?
Bluewolf is female btw. Probably changes
the context of "Im lifting more/calm yourself" from what precieved macho

People who go on about "commercial gyms" are really annoying.

All gyms are commercial in the sense that I've yet to find one that works for free.

Tbf it's shorthand to differentiate from most people that use it here.

I don't think being female was part of bluewolf's point, tbf. More like "yer not lifting that heavy, give over with the dramatics."

    Though I could be wrong.

    I'm not usually wrong though.

    And I'm a sexy fcuk.

You seem to get annoyed by a lot of my posts. Perhaps try the mute feature.

    .
I agree that was her point. But you would have got the context, others might not have.
If she was a 130kg man-mountain pulling 350kg, "your not lifting more than me" sends a very different message. Hence the clarification.

It does, but was only a joke regardless.

I see a lot of people posting about how gloves are annoying gym behaviour. I'm a newbie so I don't get this.
Chalk is banned in my gym and my hands are hella sweaty, why the hate?

Also saw a guy yesterday about a foot away from the lat pull down with almost no weight on it, pulling it like he was trying to casually start a lawn mower.. Anyone know what this 'exercise' was supposed to achieve?

Maybe he's been having trouble starting the lawn mower

Gloves don't annoy me, but they're pretty pointless. Rub your hands on a towel and then lift.

    He's an extreme gardener.

they CHOOSE to get paid sh1t

If they dont get paid well for the work they do in the gym then its their own fault, step into my world and come work among the tigers den that is the self employed trainers.

I would suggest that a trainer is not worth going to unless he/she is self employed and has a good track record

Totally agree on the first part; they're choosing their life.

Disagree on the second though. I've worked with plenty of very competent PTs who weren't self-employed but who were employed by someone who has a passion for fitness and for business and, as such, creates a good working environment for their staff.

The gym I'm in at the moment has about 5 different coaches who I trust entirely. Two of them are the owners of the gym, the rest are just incredibly talented coaches. But they have a good work environment so they actually give a **** about their job and their clients and that shines through.

Ditto for when I was in Revfit a few years ago. Hanley was obviously top dog but the people he hired were fantastic as well and I'd go back to some of them in a heartbeat.

I'm like Lee Evans level of flopsweat.
I'd spend half the day drying my mitts if I did that.

I'm not sure, signs everywhere just saying "Strictly no chalk permitted"

I sometimes use the gym in my home town which is a no-chalk gym and I've always used liquid. Never had any hassle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭Idjit

I'll give it a go lads, thanks.

That's a stupid gym. Find a new gym. Cover yourself from head to toe in chalk. Rejoice at the freedom. Post pictures on here.

my gym only has 2 15kg olympic bars and my pet peave is fellow gymsters who like to hide them. I guess it comes back to tidying up after yourself and re racking your weights but I feel like I spend a good 10 mins post stretching trying to hunt down the bar I need.
They could literally wind up anywhere I must look like a lunatic wandering round staring intently into every crevice and corner of the gym!!

They have lots of 20s and only two 15s, or the 15s represent the entire bar collection?

Oh there's oodles of 20's probably 12-15 of them, plus some bars with a much bigger diameter, and 2/3 hex trap bars but only 2 15's

I know this will probably sound silly, but why use 15s?
