Any mortgage nerds on here? Is it worth going through a broker when both of us are in permanent employment and unlikely to face any problems getting a mortgage?

We went through a broker and found it a great experience - we didn't need strings pulled or rules bent, but having one point of contact whose own interest was best served by pushing the deal along really helped. Banks can take an age to process things, people go on holidays, the underwriters haven't come back with an answer yet, etc etc. A good broker will have weekly meetings with the rep from the bank and can get things pushed along a lot quicker in my experience. We may not have needed a broker, but I reckon we were in the house a lot quicker because we did.

We used a guy who is on boards and was highly recommended by a lot of posters, can PM his contact details if you want.

Probably for the best. That whole thing turned into a massive **** show.

I have a tracker and I won't be letting it go any time soon. 0.55% above ECB which is 0% at the minute I think. The cost of mortgages these days is unbelievable in comparison. Only wish I bought a bigger place while they were throwing money out to everyone

We've cancelled our broker appointment, going to see what the banks say first.

The best financial decision I ever made was to get a tracker mortgage. Saved a fortune on interest rates.

    A broker?
I've bought numerous houses in my life and never used one.

I don't know what a tracker mortgage is.

neither did Pat Neary as it turned out...... :(

    He's back again! :D

"KERRY INDEPENDENT TD Danny Healy Rae has argued passionately that a driver who has consumed “two or three glasses” of beer represents no danger to the public."

"But I won’t believe until the day I die that two or three glasses, or a pint-and-a-half are a liability or danger on the road. And if a pilot had three glasses I’d get on the plane myself. I believe what I’m saying."

People elected him. People actually voted for him.

What an absolute parasite. His family's involvement in the pub trade isn't a conflict of interest at all at all.

    Is he wrong though?

Anyway it's only a problem if the autopilot has had a pint and a half

    Yes he is wrong

Its also extremely likely that he is wrong about the weather being directly controlled by god.

According to any study I've seen yes. Though I agree that frankly I wouldn't be that worried about someone with 1.5 pints in them over the course of some time driving.

There is a massive issue with perception though. If you say 3 glasses over a reasonable time is fine, people will be skulling 3 pints and driving off.

He only says this sh*t to court support from the people down in Kerry who feel marginalised and ignored by the 'Dublin elite'. I don't believe he (or his family) believe the sh*te they say. They only say it to keep favour with the locals who feel their way of life is under attack. The more his **** gets public attention, the more popular he is down there and the more sh*te he'll keep coming out with.

If you wanted to understand how Trump got elected, you could do worse than checking out the H-R crowd down in Kerry.

That being said, the H-Rs and those who vote for them can get themselves run over by a drunk driver as far as I'm concerned.

Floyd Mayweather just called Conor McGregor an eejit. This is the most important moment in the history of sports.

Are they gonna fight? I'd prefer if they just keep doing these press conferences, they're the perfect blend of cringeworthy and hilarious for me. Like a superbowl halftime show meets an episode of judge judy.

I find the whole idea of the fight hilarious. McGregor is basically demanding more money from people regardless of product and people are queueing up to hand it over to him.

"Lads, this is gonna be crap so gimme your money"

"TAKE MY MONEY CONOR! TAKE IT!!!!"

Yeah. He's a genius! He's probably the best self-promoting sports star of our generation, he's laughing all the way to the bank.
