No they couldn't as teams who have already played each other cant play each other so without knowing the result of Laois v Carlow as Laois can't play Westmeath

were in the same boat if Laois beat Carlow ???

its actually possible that the draw could include Kilkenny vs Tipp and Westmeath vs Carlow or Offaly vs Laois and a big team is out of the championship while a minnow goes into round 2 :eek::eek:. all luck of the draw i guess

It should be an open draw, geographical location should not come into it.

After all we are in the All Ireland series

I think it's too avoid the likelihood of teams meeting again who already met in the province.

Carlow and Kilkenny would be a cracking tie if it came about although Kilkenny would be far too strong. I've a distinct feeling that Kilkenny v Tipp will be drawn out.

How could Kilkenny Carlow be a cracking tie if Kilkenny are far too strong?

And are you suggesting the draw is fixed?

It would be a cracking tie for Carlow fans in fairness. Think it would generate huge buzz in the hurling areas of the county.

I wouldn't be too sure about that to be honest. The hurling area s of Carlow are as passionate about the game as anywhere else in the country, but it's a small area. I think they'd be fairly realistic too in that they'd know they would have little chance of winning. Don't think it would get anyone else too excited either as it would be pretty much a formality.

Have a feeling it will be Kilkenny vs Waterford and Tipp vs Dublin

They could of easily done the draw for the first round of the qualifers yesterday morning and give teams time to look at opposition etc

Pity indeed that they didn't do the draw on Monday morning as it would save you the hassle of trying to predict the outcome of a random draw!! :D:p

Prelimary round result- Laois 2-14- Carlow 1-16

So Laois will go into the bowl 2 for 2morrow mornings draw for the 1st round of the qualifers. Laois vs Westmeath cannot happen

    Bowl 1
    Dublin
    Kilkenny
    Offaly
    Westmeath

    Bowl 2
    Laois
    Limerick
    Tipperary
    Waterford

Glad you clarified the Laois/Carlow score; RTE had two attempts at it on their sports news and captioned it a draw twice. No wonder Jim Gavin is avoiding it.

I imagine the majority of these games will be played on Saturday meaning teams have 5 days notice to prepare. Not really very fair to be honest.

I think the schedule is for two matches at 5pm, and the other two at 7pm, all on the Saturday evening.

I'd love to see a Waterford vs Kilkenny game. It would be a cracking game of hurling, and would give the winner a good platform for 'making shapes' in the later stages of the All Ireland.

Little to worry Tipp on the other side of the draw to be honest. A few extra games might suit the current panel.

Clare vs Cork will be one of the most interesting Munster Finals in years. No hype at all about Clare, which is worrying if you aren't from there. Loads of deserved hype about Cork; who are playing some of the most natural hurling I've had the pleasure of watching. Ground hurling even!

Galway to beat Wexford by about 10 points. The club game in Galway has never translated into county success. The new management team seem to have an eye on a different sort of player though. No more of the 'what sort of Galway will turn up' at the start of the AI series.

Times and dates are depending on the draw for TV etc

Okay, I had thought they were specifically set for those times.

They always end up being the dates and times you said but sometimes we they schedule Sunday evening games

We will knw the full story in the morning

Rte have one game scheduled at 5pm and sky another at 7pm on Saturday. I'd say both other qualifiers will be on Saturday as there's two provincial finals on Sunday.

Round 2A of the football is scheduled for next weekend too but the only match that has a chance of being on TV is the Mayo vs Derry game which is scheduled for 5pm on Sat 1st July. Maybe RTE will show that and Sky will show the top hurling match at 7pm ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭gobo99

They might show the football alright, anyway I'm not too bothered what they show because I'll be at our match. Point I'm making is the 4 qualifiers will most likely be on Saturday evening at 7, with one at 5pm if rte are covering it.

It's amazing how they can drag the arse out of the championship with so many weekends where there's shag all happening and yet end up with fixture congestion this weekend. It's all so shambolic. I can't think of any other sport that's run in such a haphazard, "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it" kind of way.

Worst nightmare was away to Kilkenny :(

Won't be any surprises in this round, straightforward for Dublin, Tipp, Kilkenny and Waterford.

Best bet of an upset would be Laois over Dublin
