An Ulsterman with a chip on his shoulder. That's a first.

It was the 70s Jaco. Most of us were only still itches in our daddy's pants.

As an aside - but it ruins your story - the referee apparently awarded a penalty for a different offence, and was not sucked in by Hayden's ridiculous dive.

I suppose if I want to do old school bitter 'n' twisted there's Deans no-try in 1905. Were you at that game out of interest :D
Hayden & Oliver both dived .....

The ref was covering his ass with the 'other offence' line.

I might have mentioned this before .... that NZ team would stop at nothing to win. They were not popular tourists culminating Ashworth's stamp on JPR. This was a very bad incident which would probably result in a lifetime ban today.

At the very least Ashworth should have been sent home .... he actually turned out in the BaaBaas game at the end of the tour .... a deliberate sticking up of two fingers to the home unions.

Why on Earth would you think I have a chip on my shoulder simply because I hold cheating to be below contempt. I suppose it takes a certain amount of class to understand. Pity you missed it.

Not sure it's a good sign to be picked in the first game ?

Won't have any effect on the test team, other than injuries picked up.

If anything is votes it as a positive if I was a player as they obviously want to start with a win...and the provo babas will be the easiest test. But yeah, nothing to read into it.

Sexton needs the game time for sure and good kicking practice.

Well, 12 of the 41 played for teams involved last weekend so are automatically out of the running.

5 of the other guys were all involved in semi finals so wouldn't have had much of a rest and some were carrying knocks. The only one who wasn't is Dan Cole, I think. If he's fit, he should be worried. He was a complete dirt tracker on the last tour too.

The Crusaders game will be the first one where we'll see a proper team out and I'd say we could get a sense of about 15 of the match test 23 from the 23 that play that game.

I can see Biggar and Cole already being put on dirt tracker duty though.

It's pretty much a selection of guys who were able to meet up initially and weren't involved in knock out rugby aside from Sexton and AWJ who have played very little of late. In both of their cases all the alternative options left out also played in knock out games (Lawes, Itoje, Biggar).

It's a nothing selection to start the tour. Just about getting things started and giving a chance to guys to impress.

The only guy who I'd look at and say "Your tour is screwed, pal" is Dan Cole. If he's not involved in this game, he's already looking like an outside bet for the test 23.

Although I appreciate the symmetry that's an otherwise awful way of listing the team.

It took me three tries to read it properly..

teams should be listed in formation. Reading the scrum half on the same line as the 8 and different line to the 10 just feels wrong.

I have an 'International Rugby' one that has everything.

Edit: Actually for some reason they're not showing in my calendar at the right time for kick off. Not sure if they need to be updated.

Got sorted actually, if you download the Lions app it lets you add the fixtures into your calendar through that.

The Jagermeister is starting for the Baa-Baas.

That should be some thrill for the lad, an added bonus to his southerly sojourn.

Who is Aidan Ross? That's very suspicious, have they robbed another? Do they not have any players of their own?

Dwayne Sweeney as well. It's such a shame that top northern hemisphere talent are being cradle-robbed by the nefarious bottom-hemispherians.

Is there any decent NZ podcasts? I recall listening to Green and Gold Rugby four years ago and it was great to see the other perspective
