So some old dear half ran my off the road last Saturday morning which resulted in the attachment (picture way too big to embed) damage to my front left. Doesn't seem like a huge amount of damage but does anyone have any recommendations on places to fix it in Dublin, preferably South or West, and any rough idea how much it might cost?

You should have stood your ground and taken the hit, then she would be liable and hopefully put off the road for good. Instead you now have a bill and more worryingly she is free to cause more destruction.

I've had several sets of wheels refurbished by wheel wizards in Finglas, they do good work.

    Back on topic...

I had a brief nose around a FL R for the first time today. Local dealers got one in, sitting in the showroom. All €56.5k of it!
It had several pricey options ticked, but as mentioned in previous posts, VW have significantly hiked up the price of the car in under 2 years. It's in danger of no longer seeming like the "bargain" it was not long ago.

I didn't like the black prets tbh. Maybe on a lighter coloured car they'd work better but I think I'd still stick with the grey prets.
The leather has a slightly different finish now. The centres are perforated.
The front end looks a bit more aggressive, meaner than the outgoing car. I loved the look of the new lights / DRL's and the sweeping rear indicators are cool.

It had the new pro Nav fitted too. I didn't play around with it much. My first impression was it looked a bit aftermarket?! This big glass screen, it didn't seem to fit the dash as well as the old radio imo. When turned on it did look well and very high res in fairness.

Same with the Active / digital dash. When ignition is off the dash looks like someone has stolen the clocks! A black hole. Once it fires up though it does look really well. Very clear.

I liked that they've put glossy black side skirts (rather than the old car's colour coded skirts) and a beefier rear valence and less (almost none) fake chrome on the front of the car now. I think it gives it a more aggressive overall look. I'd like to see it in a lighter colour as I don't think Lapiz shows off those details as well as a light colour would.

You should buy it to stop someone else coming along and spending that much on an average looking car...

What would interest you if you clearly don't like the golf r?

Those black prets look awful. Gotta say I'm not really a fan of them in any colour, the 18" standard alloys on the original Mk7 GTI were the nicest for me. I quite liked the 18" Monza alloys on the Mk6 too.

56.5 k is just too much i think for most people.

Thats Focus rs money and you dont see too many of them on the road.

The RRP is probably around ?49k for a 5 door and i think it is a mindset in most potential buyers that 50k is top for the R to spend.

Think i paid 46500 in feb 2015 so an increase of 3k -4k now is not so bad.

Me neither. I had them on my car briefly last year due to a factory error and was half-thinking of keeping them because they would be sort of unique , given that you couldn't actually order them in Ireland.

Glad I didn't keep them now, seeing as they are on the regular options list ;)

On another note, are car showrooms all putting in laminate floors and beech skirting boards these days..? Seen a few similar pics from elsewhere. Makes it look like someone has parked their car in their living room...

A 5 door DSG with met paint and the "tech pack" (most people would probably spec this) is a shade under 50k.

The car above has a few more expensive boxes ticked - leather(~2k), roof (~1300), ACC (~1200), pro Nav (~900), Dynaudio (~800), wheels (~200).

It didn't have keyless actually. That's another €450 odd ;)

As far as I know, the manufacturer dictates the furnishing choices, most VW dealers will have the same flooring, colours, furniture etc.

I had a look at the 2014 R in Clondalkin, it's an Irish car alright.

Is there supposed to be any lag manually shifting up with the dsg in some scenarios? It was taking about a second between me hitting the paddle and the car actually changing gear. I drove a dsg GTI about a month back and remember being very impressed with the speed of the shifts, not this time. Downshifts were almost instant.

No, I'd say none at all. That doesn't sound right.

Yeah it didn't feel right to me. Between that and the fact I'd prefer a 5 door I wasn't overly interested. I enquired about a straight cash sale price just to get an idea what they'd be looking for and got the usual how much do you want to offer response. I said 30 to test the water and got a straight no with no counter offer so that was me done at that point.

The only scenario I can think of where the car would not change up/down immediately with the paddles is if you were going to stall the engine... or... go into too low a gear for the current speed. E.g. I don't think it lets you go into 2nd until you're over 10 mph.

There should be more 5-doors around if that's what you want. 3 doors sold in much smaller numbers.

I was playing around with the paddles a bit so I'm sure some of the time I was changing up when I didn't need to. But even when I'd shift down when I really didn't need to and then back up again it was sluggish to respond.

30k is about the limit of what I want to spend so I'd be waiting til next year for the horde of 2015 R models for sale to hit that price range. I think I'm going to go for the GTI anyway, I'm just not really a fan of the tartan interior and there haven't been many for sale with leather.
