DSG can delay when it has preselected or guessed the wrong gear that you are going to change into. If you were in 5th and changed to 4th, the 2nd clutch may preselected 3rd gear in anticipation of you slowing down and going into 3rd. If you go into 5th again, rather than just having to disengage one clutch and engage the other it also needs to change the preselected gear from 3rd to 5th which may be what you experienced. Can happen sometimes, and as you say more likely due to you flicking about with the gears in an unusual manner as you were testing the car out.

I have noticed with DSG if you're driving easy and you paddle up there is a delay and lingers before changing but when foot to the floor it's instant.

I got a reply to an email I sent to VW last week asking if the GTi-P was coming to our shores after being told by one dealer that it was a UK only car.
The good news is it's coming here and the email said they should have details for the manual model this week (DSG model to follow), it should be available to order in the next few weeks - phew!

Great! I asked the same but am still waiting on a response. Looking forward to ordering one. Pity I won't get any summer road trips in it this year at this rate!

?40,595 excluding delivery for the manual PP 5 door.

    That's €1,800 above the non-PP, a bit more than I had hoped.
Think I'll be going DSG anyway (hopefully it doesn't have an even bigger cost adder for the PP). I had a good spin of a mk7 DSG, having always though I would get a manual, and I really liked the smoothness of the auto - especially for city traffic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Was out for a spin last night and roundabouts and nicely curving bends are a dream with the Diff. You can just accelerate through them and the car just digs in and goes. That's even at present when I don't have the full confidence in the tyres on it, but I'm excited by the prospect of some good F1's on there, should make a nice difference too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,086 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

Drove a MK 7.5 GTI not-PP for a few days you and it really needs the dif. It's fine on good quality roads but as soon as the surface is a little poor or the conditions damp (Ireland in a nutshell) the car loses the front end quite easily.

But you're looking at the bones of 43-44k for a dsg one without options and it's quite a lot. Interestingly the RS245 Octavia is being priced very closely in line with it.

So left the car in yesterday for service and enquired about the oil and filter change in the DSG box.

Got another price of ?222 !

Anyway i went ahead and got both the service and the DSG service

When i was collecting it they tell me it needs spark plugs but they have none in stock ! so another trip on the cards.

I got a follow up email today from VWCS of the updated Golf performance range price list (dated 23/May) which includes the GTi-P manual versions. I presume this is up on the VW Ireland website.
Does this mean they're available to order now?

Should be - though the price list isn't up on the website and it's not listed on the online configurator (the configurator usually lags behind with updates anyway).
Can you upload the price list here?
Hoping the DSG won't be too much longer.
I'm surprised they aren't taking orders for the 1.5 TSI here yet either, would expect that to be a big seller with the push away from diesel.

I don't know about the digital/blank speedo clocks. Will post some pics later

Yeah I mentioned the same thing earlier. When ignition is off, it looks like the clocks have been removed :pac:

But when on, they do look pretty good. Poor pic I took here, you'll find better pics all over the web.

Surely with the tech is going it will soon be, if not already cheaper for manufacturers to use a screen instead of mechanical gauges. If that is the case analogue gauges could soon be a thing of the past, or an option on the options list.

    This looks interesting....
    https://www.whatcar.com/news/2018-volkswagen-up-gti-review/

There is a comparison with the Mk1 GTI on page 3; the Up GTI is pretty much the same size as a Mk1 GTI (a bit shorter and a bit taller). It's not quite an Abarth challenger, but intersting nonetheless.

They should put the golf R running gear in an up, call it an uppeR or something.
    I'd buy that.

This is a nice looking car and the PP cars are rare here but 70k miles in two years is fair mileage. I thought I was on the high side doing 40k km in 18 months. Price a bit on the high side considering the mileage?

I don't think the PP cars are that rare here, I'd say it's probably about 50/50 from what I've seen. That is high enough mileage alright but on the plus side I'd say it's most likely motorway mileage which would be handy enough on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,554 ✭✭✭JoeA3

The higher than average miles wouldn't bother me much. Chances are as Dar said, it's mainly motorway and it sounds like it has a good service history. It looks very tidy in the pics - apart from the god awful mud flaps.
But... when the miles are higher I'd expect the price to be lower than similar cars - or for the car to have a bigger or more unusual spec - e.g. If that was loaded up with leather, roof, pro Nav, etc it would seem more tempting... but it isn't, so there's nothing too special about it. We bought a high miler A4 last year, it was in exceptional condition for the miles and much better spec than most other A4's which swung it for me.

Are you thinking of changing Hooch ;)

I know it would be able for the mileage no bother its just resale value in a couple of more years wouldn't be great.

I've always liked mk7s Joe but they were just a bit out of reach for me financially.

It'll probably be a couple of more years when I can change. Have a wedding to plan and pay for first unfortunately! In the process of buying our house as well so a new car isn't a priority for now.

A 5 door PP DSG would be lovely but I'll have to wait until they depreciate a bit more. Still happy with the ST anyway. Thinking of remapping it to bring a bit of the novelty factor back.

That's the other issue with buying a high miler. If you're doing high miles yourself you'll really pile on the miles on top of that again.

Yeah it's hard to juggle the priorities!!

Got an email from VW Ireland that the hope to have Performance Pack DSG pricing at the end of this week coming.
Went into Frank Keane a few days ago to see a regular GTI 7.5 in the flesh. It was white silver which wouldn't be my cup of tea, but the larger pipes and the new lights look great as does the standard navigation system.

After 18 months of being extra careful a low kerb in Tesco car park got the better of me this am. Can anyone recommend a place in south Dublin/Wicklow for diamond cut alloy repair?

Got to be Collins Engineering in Bray https://wefixalloywheels.ie

Thanks Toyotafanboi for the recommendation . I just checked them out online and their work looks good. Have you used them yourself?

Rim Solutions always get recommended for this too. I've seen their diamond cut refurbs and they were excellent.

Currently have a wheel with them. Used them before and found them excellent.
