Maybe I just need more experience. I play with a mate and he's constantly like, there's a guy, there's a guy etc etc. and he always sees them first in the distance and I'm left squinting at the screen going wha? then I see them after 5 seconds. He seems to easily spot gun flashes as well.

Brightness can really affect things depending on what your shadow settings are. If you have a bright screen with Ultra shadows then you can see people moving around in buildings easier, sometimes you might see a shadow in one room with a window from a guy standing in the hallway. I would recommend keeping shadows on low because people lying prone behind trees or outside of buildings become harder to see if they have any kind of decent camo clothing.

View distance on Ultra, effects on low if you want more FPS or put on high to see muzzle flash better (its a trade off either way).

Foliage settings dont effect anything anymore. The games default foliage is always Ultra whether you select low or not.

Anti-Aliasing is something I've come to notice and love. I always play with it on Ultra because it makes the enemy outline more clearer at a distance. When I played with it on very low I could never spot someone at a very far distance because they looked like bushes or a tiny pixel that wouldn't really draw your attention, but with it on Ultra I can spot moving targets at longer distances with a lot more ease.

Everything else doesn't really affect much, just a few FPS here and there for better looking houses and rocks and such.

If your playing on a mid range PC then keep textures on low because at high settings any town or city will take longer to load leading to you getting shot waiting for the doors to pop in.

35 people left in the 2nd to last circle, it was fcuking epic carnage.

Came 3rd and never recorded it.

    This game............

    20170424181917_1.jpg

Had a great game a couple of days ago that will honestly go down as a truly great gaming memory. I jumped into a random squad match. One of our team was AFK from the start so he was dead in 5 minutes of the gas coming in. The other guy had to go for some reason but he was kind enough to drop his guns and gear for us.

Basically we both turned into Rambo for 2 short periods then turned into ninjas for the rest. Both of us took out 2 seperate squads on our own. My 4 kills came in the first 5 minutes when clearing a house with a vector not taking much damage at all and his 4 kills come from 3 frags randomly chucked into the school gym windows. It looked like something from the Olympics Shotputt event.

2 of the squad just rage quit there and then. I don't blame them either.

By then we were in the top 15 and managed to avoid most people until the above picture. With circle perfectly placed for us to sit behind the galvanise in front of houses where the last squad were too scared to move and were slowly getting killed by the playzone and my team mates random fire.

I forgot to do the obvious thing and look behind for any stragglers coming from the gas. He got the drop on us long before we knew what happened. Handed him the game ourselves.

A lot of adrenaline, a lot of heartache and disappointment at the end and easily some of the greatest moments I've had in online gaming. My team mate wasn't a dick either which is refreshing. No 12 year olds on PUBG.

Just found a way to decrease the lag and perfomance issues. Launch PUBG and then go to task manager, find the tsl process running for PUBG then right click and set running priority to high. If you are using windows 10 then you might have to click into open location before you get to adjust the main process.

Just knocked up my FPS by 10 and I don't get anymore stuttering or near crashes anymore. The default priority is medium which needs to be changed to high ASAP because the game will take up over 70% memory and CPU usage on any computer while running and having the computer only prioritise 70% of its workload as medium priority is honestly a waste of resources.

Let me know if it works any better for ye

Came 16th in my first match, came 3rd in a squad match. K/D is currently sitting at 2.8 but I doubt that's going to last long. Great fun and the rush is crazy when near the end of a match!

K/D shouldn't get too bad, you can only die once per game so unless you're going through endless games with no kills you'll be fine.

I used this launch command and I feel like it smoothed it out a touch. Dunno if it was just placebo or not. Game runs relatively ok on my system anyway. -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -malloc=system

Nice one man. Haven't been able to play after the last 2 updates because of the stutter every 10 - 20 secs. I kept losing any close battles due to it so had to just stop playing. Just had a two games there without any stutter.

Got a newer but still old gfx card and not more fps lagging issues yay, went from 10-30 to 40-70. Generally being 50-60.

My best friend doesn't really play games at all, but she just won a solo on my PC after the upgrade, was so proud watching her. And she did it with an UMP!

Ah here I give up, I have 80 hours on it and still haven't won a solo game. Sickening. Here, have a VERY reluctant thanks and make sure to pass it onto your female hacker friend :pac:

If anyone gets the chance to get into a first person only custom match then jump in straight away! It's A LOT more tactical and fun. I got to the last 8 and it was on a hillside with trees rocks and a couple of buildings at the bottom.

I had to lay down and crawl to get to the next circle without being spotted, I crawled right by a guy who was getting shot at and he never even noticed me and it was the same with the guy who was shooting at him. I just crawled right past the tree the other guy was crouched behind and let them fight it out. I was laughing so much that I forgot the mic wasn't muted and my voice channel was set to all. He managed to find me after killing the other guy but only because of the chuckling voice coming from the ridge line behind him.

First Person Only has a very weird open world Rainbow Six feel to it. Especially when clearing a town and leaning left or right to get a better look through windows. I can't wait for them to make it its own game mode,it's going to make the game a lot better.

I have 1080, SSD, 5960X Cpu and it doesnt run great get about 70 fps on Ultra so wouldnt go buying a new PC just yet.

This game needs a lot of love, hopefully 2 million players will get it the love it needs.

I'm sickened. Had the perfect spot on end game, 3 left with me, had the jump on one guy, aim clear shot at his head. Boom! I kill the ridge directly in front of me.... Guy turns, I die.

    So freaking annoyed.

Updates: Streamer asked about rocket launchers, PU said probably not but they've been looking at M203 underbarrel m16 launchers, but it doesn't seem very likely as of now for the core game mode. Same goes for dual wielding pistols, not very realistic when trying to reload two pistols in battle.
More cosmetics will be added soon and there will be no paid-content until after release.
Lots of great content to come but their main focus is to work as fast they can on patches for both framerates and server lag.
Have devs looking at the console platform and it's going to happen, but not until the PC version is fully done.
Bullet drop and spread mechanics are still a work in progress.
Weapon damage and armor stats are still a work in progress (they're close to where they want to be but obviously will continue balancing/fixing damage done.)
Would like to add 1 weapon a month until release.
Directional audio is still a work in progress and a huge focus. The main dev on this feature is an ex CS pro-tier player.
Still hotfixing tons of those crappy falling animation glitches every day (you can see the build number change nearly every game you are in at the bottom middle of screen, version number).
He loves seeing the funny game modes already popping up in Customs. One Korean streamer has a makeshift Zombie mode where 1 squad is allowed to get melee weapons and 92 others have to use their fists attempting to kill the squad. Goldeneye where it's first person only, no armor no meds, and only pistols. Or "where's waldo?" 1 player dresses up in the red/white striped tee shirt and tries to hide from the other 99 players. Sounds fun :)
Adding more the point above, they will definitely add more options to the customs mode over time so when it goes public, we all get a chance to create some fun rulesets. He mentioned being able to remove the blue zone completely and make it a free roam map. Also thinks car races around the map would be fun too, once more options and mods come! (and less "car humping" bugs. his words, not mine lol)
"Map is meant to be sort of a forgotten island somewhere in the black sea and Soviets during the war to use as a military base.. then was abandoned due to an "accident". Basic gist of it. PU big fan of brutalist architecture and very proud of the map. If you didn't know the map is named "Erangel" in relation to PU's daughter Eireann.
Even more variety will be trickled into the current map so we have a few more interior models and such.
They now have 2 new members of the team that are officially "data scientists" and came from Bluehole's MMO studio. They're now analyzing the huge piles of data from the last couple months and will help being tweaking and balancing everything from car speed to parachute distances to gun damage. That is super exciting!
PU has always had faith that this genre could be done right and be a massively popular game. But he didn't expect 2 million copies so quickly and even though that puts a ton of pressure on his shoulders, he's at peace because of his "incredible" dev team. It will be good.
Host says "and for an early access game I've been very surprised how well it runs as I've not seen any crashes personally --" PU chimes in "Well for you that's great! But there are some people that have been crashing constantly and we truly, sincerely, apologize to those people and are working very hard to get those issues patched immediately. 90% of players might have no crashing issues but we need that to be as close to 100% as possible. Always send reports!"
They're constantly brainstorming circle speed ideas and firmly believe the only thing that should kill you is other players (if playing within the basic rules). Changes will come soon to circle speeds and new mechanics may be tested.

    test version

I just get stuck in an infinite loading screen after a game now and then. Think I've got 5/6 wins under my belt now, and god knows how many 2nd places, just 3 yesterday alone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 876 ✭✭✭bigphil2

Lads started playing this over the weekend, havent played KB + M in about 10 years,im utterly ****e at it but **** me its one good game, got 5th in one match ( through blind luck and hiding) and got 3 kills in my last match yesterday..

Its like tactically i get what i need to do,but its just lack of practice on the keyboard and mouse that gets me killed, well that and getting sniped from 200m away while trying to run for cover..

    .

Don't worry, I've never won one either We have spent a lot of time watching streams and talking about how to do things better, hooked!

Was trying to some some randomer squads, about a dozen and every one I was either left on my own by people quitting, or they died in the first few seconds. I'd nearly rather just queue on my own against squads tbh, it's really bad if you don't know the people.

First Squad win yesterday, with a 3 man squad and all.

Decided at the start we were just going for a mess game too. Dropped as soon as we could, straight for the power plant. Fully expecting it to be chaos and to die almost instantly.

For some reason only 1 other squad did the same, managed to kill them all without losing anyone, and get geared up. Few fights along the way and some tactical retreats on our part and somehow we lucked out and ended up in the very center of the end circle, on a hill, with rocks for cover.

    Very satisfying win. :D

Yeah, when playing solo, the best advice i can give you is to only shoot when absolutely necessary. As in, when someone see's or is shooting at you, or if you have a suppressor.

More often than not, opening up on someone will result in you getting shot in the back, so best to be as sneaky as possible until last 2-3 if you can. Stay as close to the gas as you can as that will cut out the paranoia of someone coming from behind you, unless you have no cover.

Always be progressing for the best position over your enemies, instead of going for the kills.

Unless you're a killing machine, then go nuts :P

I swear this approach works very often for me. I jump early to a spot that the plane is going right over. Everyone seems to think the spot will be flooded with people, hence nobody goes there. Its a bit of a double bluff but often works out.

Just had two second places in a row, 4 kills and 5 kills. Both times I seen the last guy and thought I knew where he was and then had him sneak around behind me :( So annoying. Guess I need to be more aggressive on final 2

Always play squads with a few mates on discord. Sometime we end up with a 4th random.

Most people have mics, as you can tell from the spawn island shenanigans.

In-game chat can be heard by other players if they are close enough. Better to use Discord.

after several ****ty rounds yesterday (got shot by a guy as i was parachuting to a house, one shotted by a punch to head as i walked through a front door..etc etc) I was having what was shaping up to be a perfect run, found a group of houses to the east of the map,at the centre of the first circle, got geared up to level 3 backpack, level 2 helmet,an Mi6 with acog and extended mag, miniuzi with the silencer,5 first aid kits.. All i had to do was wait for the circle to shrink...

    Game crashes.. :(

Finally got my solo chicken dinner. I'll admit it was a bit underwhelming after all the heartbreak getting here. Pretty much drove a car to a point, got geared up then the circle closed in around an area of rocky shore. I pretty much just lay down, had a great spot in terms of hiding and everyone else came in from different avenues. I just lay down, let everyone else do the hard work. 2nd place kills 3rd place. He goes behind a tree. bang bang he's dead. 1 kill all round :D

Its part of the game. You're doing something wrong if you're getting killed by the gas so much.

Start giving yourself more time to get into the next circle. Leave your location earlier.

Gas? Do we mean the electric field?

The field and how you deal with it really defines the end game. You have to be careful with your positioning. You can't wait for it to be on top of you and then try to outrun it. Generally speaking you want to be in a good position within the white circle, killing people when they are forced to move. If you're not the first guy you're the second guy, getting shot by people who are already safe. There really is no excuse for the field killing you outside of the very end of the game where it becomes a game of patience: when there are only three or four of you left the first guy to get up and bolt is often the first guy to get shot down.

It's a tricky balancing game in the end game, they are still developing it, don't forget; they're definitely considering having it behave in different ways, ideally to make luck factor in less.

Regardless, outside of the last five dudes in the end game, if the field is getting you you're playing really badly. Plan your movements ahead of time.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,460 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

A good tip is the field edge closest to the next circle will move a lot slower than the edge that has to close over a greater distance. If you want to play the edge it's worth considering.

I am leaving my location, im constantly moving, need time to heal sometimes and the circle can shoot to the opposite end to where you are, then it over shoots you and rapes your health to death in no time because it moves faster than you do at the end. I dont think thats the intention of the gas, its intention is to bring everybody closer, which it does, it just kills alot of people when it should just nudge them to move

Oh and no need to be a dick Korvanica, this is a forum, for discussion, not for flexing ego

You should be getting into position ahead of time and hiding out. You're doing it wrong if you're constantly moving. Get a vehicle and get to the centre of the white circle if you find yourself on the wrong end of the island.

I think I've died inside the field once in 50 hours of play.

The field isn't the problem, your strategy is.

It's rare but it can still happen to you that you have to run all game if the car spawns and circles suck, but your strategy should always be to move to a good location ahead of time, I do wish it was a bit slower because you can get really punished for having fights and fell like you just have to run.

Yeah you can get catastrophically unlucky with a series of events, like landing as far from the circle as you can, all the vehicles being taken, getting pinned down in a standoff, crappy gear so you feel you have to try and loot more, etc.

But enough of those things happening all together to be a problem should be extremely rare. If the field is getting you on a regular basis you're going about the game wrong.

I really think nix just has to be leaving it far too late to get into panic mode. It's like people not getting worried about a tsunami until they can already see the wall of water coming for them.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,460 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

I do think circles could do with being a bit slower in squad matches at least, it would encourage people to engage in fire fights late game a bit more imo.
