Looking forward to the PUNK weekend ......Cant wait to hear the old favorites, Green day,Weezer , Blink 182..etc etc...:D

And let's not forget, it wouldn't be a Punk Weekend without the anti-establishment icons that were Alien Ant Farm and Sum 41.

Seems like it's 2-3 "punk" songs per hour. Also, when did The Jam become punk?

At least John Clarke is being a bit more adventurous with his choice of punk.

John Clarke and Pat James are the only two DJs on the station who ever deviate from the party line, with the exception of syndicated hosts like Alice Cooper and Steve Downes. I suppose they're allowed to have a certain degree of autonomy outside of the prime time hours.

I'm not sure if he played any of his namesake, Max. I tuned in on Saturday in the hope that Nova's 'Punk Weekend' might offer up something different (namely some punk rock from the heyday of that particular era). When 'Riders on the Storm' crackled onto my car radio I immediately surmised that it was business as usual and their Punk Weekend was a farce. I switched off just as quickly.

When i tuned in it was business as usual on saturday morning, nothing unexpected with MM at the helm..but Dee was playing some cracking tunage today, guess who the "real" rock DJ in that house is then....:)....and of course JC and PJ didnt dissapoint either...Dee made a comment today about a lack of female punk/new wave artists back in the day..Poly Styrene,Siouxsie,Chrissie,Nina Hagen,Gaye Advert,Patti...to name but a few...Nova "up yours"...:D

I haven't listened to Dee since she returned to Nova Nights. That being said, I always preferred her night time show over Morning Glory.

Her interview with Eamon Carr on Mon evening was actually quite good.....mind you it was mostly due to him be really talkative :D

But yeah, she is better on nights. Prob that she away from Marteeee and the baby for a few hours.

:D:D..true that....maybe she has a bit more say in what she plays on her own show...I always felt she was wasted on that "Mardy Miller Show..."

Quite enjoyed the bits of the "punk" weekend that I heard over the weekend. Mixed up the setlist which can only be a good thing.

They would be my sentiments too.

I heard some of the show with Dee Woods and Eamon Carr. He had some great stories!

I heard some of John Clarke's own personal Top 10 "Punk" songs.
Number 10 - Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pisyols
Number 9 - Do What You Wanna Do by Eddie and The Hot Rods.
Number 8 - Down to the Doctor by Doctor Feelgood
Number 7 - Dancing The Night Away by The Motors (I only got the first few bars so could not remember initially!).
I completely missed Numbers 6 to 2. I just got the last bars of Number 1 which was Teenage Kicks by The Undertones. Can anyone fill in the gaps for me?

Looking After Number One (Boomtown Rats) was in at 4 I think.

I know I heard Sham 69's When The Kids Are United at some stage; could have been on that list.

I enjoyed it too; some great songs in there which you'd argue should be closer the regular play-list.

As im a jackeen from down the country i am delighted when i can tune Nova in on the car radio. I have to say i find the lady who does the news/intros with the Australian/South African (??) accent very jarring. Her voice and delivery is like something from an Alan Partridge skit.

Totally agree, she does the competition later on in the day and she gets giddy, the voice gets higher and squawkier almost ear piercing, and when they repeat the 4.30 rock report from the afternoon at 4.30am next morning, I have to switch the station, it's too early to listen to her.

    6..Splodgenessabounds..2 pints of larger.......novelty record..
    5..Mark of the 4th form...The Rats
    4..Radiators...TV screen
    3..Another girl....The Only ones
    2..London calling...Clash
    1..Undertones.....

All fairly predictable in content..would have been nice to here some alternate tracks...but he was "limited" to 3 punk tracks/hour....WHY....it was supposed to be the "Punk weekend"..god knows they promoted it enough...cop out...

Of course a top ten is going to be a bit predictable; doesn't mean it's a bad idea to have it. Some great songs in there.

And of course a "punk weekend" isn't going to be non-stop punk. A couple of songs an hour livened the mix up nicely. That was the main aim.

I think you're just moaning for the sake of it now.

Then why not just throw in a few "punk" tracks and say nothing, which is basically the normal playlist...To advertise the "Punk weekend" was false advertising..theres enough tracks out there to suffice....
No...i'm moaning just to get at you..think what you like...

Pretty narrow anglo-centric definition of Punk too it seems. No Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid in there?

    6..Splodgenessabounds..2 pints of lager.......novelty record..
    5..MarY of the 4th form...The Rats
    4..Radiators...TV screen
    3..Another girl....The Only ones
    2..London calling...Clash
    1..Undertones.....

See what I did above?? Mary of the 4th Form is my favourite Boomtown Rats song - better choice than Looking After No. 1, which a previous poster thought was played! I haven't heard Splodg. in years - would have loved to have heard that song.

So the complete lineup for John Clarke's Top 10 was:
10 - Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pisyols
9 - Do What You Wanna Do by Eddie and The Hot Rods.
8 - Down to the Doctor by Doctor Feelgood
7 - Dancing The Night Away by The Motors
6 - Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please by Splodgenessabounds
5 - Mary of the 4th Form by The Boomtown Rats
4 - TV Screen by The Radiators from Space
3 - Another Girl Another Planet by The Only ones
2 - London Calling by The Clash
1 - Teenage Kicks by The Undertones

Okay, a relatively safe playlist but still good to hear.
