Yeah, he played a few games for Connacht last season, but it was never more than a stopgap solution. I mean, Jamie Roberts started life as a fullback too, so he's providing cover there so Henshaw can concentrate on centre. Problem solved.

It wasn't just a stop gap to be fair. O'Halloran shifted to the wing to accommodate him at full back against Munster in Thomond with Ronaldson and Aki being preferred in the centre.

Did Henshaw not spend his career playing 13 and 15 until Joe Schmidt got his hands on him?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,728 ✭✭✭Former Former

What are we even arguing here? No one really thinks the Lions are going to play him at FB.

    Yes he did.

And even when Schmidt had his hands on him he supposedly trained as a 13.

And when Aki qualifies who knows where he'll end up.

They may not start him there.

But he can cover the position for them (for example, if North and Seymour are starting wingers its not beyond the realms of possibility)

It'll be some craic if Henshaw plays 13 and 15 for the Lions. I'll be amused anyway. It'll tickle me. I may even display a hint of admiration for Warren, no small feat.

    Still 12.

Aki will be riding the pine watching the Ringer tear it up.

Maybe. Maybe Roserinho will be on the bench with Henshaw at 13. Maybe all three will be on the pitch. Maybe None of them will be. Maybe one of them will be. Maybe two of them will be but not at center. Maybe one of them will be in the back row. Maybe one of them will play for England. Maybe one of them will leave and get frozen out by Ireland. Maybe Ringrose's girlfriend will move to Galway. Maybe Henshaw will refuse to play anywhere but fullback. I mean I could go on. this is a reference to something, I promise I'm not insane

I went insane the day I saw Noel Reid tackle a forward back the way he came.

    Reid for the Lions.

I read that in Ewan McGregor's voice with Iggy Pop in the background.

I think it's a very strong possibility. I'd say Gatland already has a fair idea of his test side and given his penchant for big lumps in the centre it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Henshaw outside Farrell.

    Well my backline is

    9) Laidlaw
    10) Hogg
    11) Roberts
    12) Payne
    13) Farrell
    14) Joseph
    15) Henshaw

And I will hate that decision. But a small part of me will find it quite funny given some posts on this forum!
    It'd be a shocker.

    He's an incredible talent.

He's a good player...incredible might be a bit hyperbolic though!!

The Telegraph says Hartley hasn't made the cut. Hookers are Best, George and Owens. They also think PoM, SoB and Stander have made it.

They say Donnacha Ryan and Iain Henderson will travel. Jack Nowell is a surprise call up to the back 3. No bolter according to their info.

    One Scot will be selected.

Will the announcement be carried live by sky?

I thought Ringrose deserves a spot in the squad, shame.

I don't remember there ever being leaks prior to the squad announcement in the past yet this year there seem to be loads.

If true, only one Scot would be incredibly unfair really

    Ridiculously so.

No launchbury or either gray as well.
If the muted squad is true, then fair dues to d Ryan, really a left field call..

They have it tough in that the positions that most of their better players play are the more competitive positions in the squad

If that's accurate I'll be delighted for Earls.

Imagine the Leinster heads exploding tomorrow afternoon if Ryan and O'Mahony travel ahead of the consistent, indestructible, unquestionable, wolverine like Heaslip.

I'll actually snortle on my refreshment of choice. Just wait for the pages and pages of hyperbole and hysteria with a dash of knee jerk topped off with imho.

It will make the IRFUs rewarding of central contracts even more laughable and nostalgic.

    Sweet dreams chaps.

Such a sad post that reflects pretty badly on yourself. I'd be delighted for any Irishman who gets to go on the trip. So will 99% of others. But we can see clearly what your main motivations are

    Hogg a certainty
Johnny Gray has a good chance

Nobody else could really complain if left out.

I think it's completely reasonable to not select an injured player who has no fixed date for return.

Lions squad has zero to do with IRFU and how they do their business. Lions dont have 4 pro sides plus a national team to run on a strict budget.

But hey i guess any excuse to get a cheap dig in at a player who has won more then any other Irish player.

I could have sworn Scotland came ahead of Wales in this year's 6n championship.

Oh well, I must have been tripping balls again

That really doesn't mean any of their individuals deserve a place in the lions squad.
