Is that not the new night mode feature? Its supposed to remove the blue light from the phone so its easier to view at night and also prevents your sleep from being disrupted.

I have a similar thing on my tablet called Twilight.

Also is there not a separate calibration mode that allows you to set the rgb balance? Article is a bit cheap and click baity looking.

My phone is on my desk 90% of the time. Scan finger on the front button... done.

Honestly dont get some aspect of product design... this force people to pick up the phone to unlock it or (like my missus) abandon the fingerprint scan and use a pin

Am i wrong in saying that huawai have abandoned the rear fp scanner for the p10?

Is part of the idea to get people used to using the front facing camera to unlock, via iris scan/facial.
Leaving the fingerprint scanner at rear there for those who prefer that method.

It was made pretty obvious at the launch that the fingerprint scanner is becoming a secondary way of unlocking the phone, the way the pin used to be. Samsung didn't do an apple on their customers and just bin the scanner (like the headphone jack) but they stuck it on the back to stop people losing their minds over it. I reckon it may well be gone by the next device.

Calculated risk on their part i suppose...

Wont be getting the s8 because of it personally..

Even iris/facial scanning will be a pain in the hole unless the camera will also do finger prinf scanning...

Do people really pick up their phone everytime when using it? Mine lies on a surface most of the time and gets used from there...cud be in the minority tho...

I personally don't like the fingerprint scanner. Roughly 70% of the time I try unlock my phone with my fingerprint it doesn't work. I've re-done my fingers on it numerous times but after a month or so it just goes back to never working. So I have to revert to my pin, which does my head in.

But yet when I use my fingerprint to log into my banking apps it works every time. This is on a Note 5 so not an ancient phone either

Yeh this is strange, I have an s6 edge coming up on 2 years, my gf has the normal s6 the same length of time.
I could count on 1 hand the number of times the scanner didn't work for me.
She gave up after a week as it never worked for her.

They are in their hole getting rid of the fingerprint scanner, honestly people come out with some scour on here sometimes. Rumour is they working on building the scanner into the screen glass but didn't get it developed on time, the placement on the 8 was a last minute fix, look out for new fingerprint tec in the note 8.

LOL, chill out. I said "I reckon" about the fingerprint scanner (which I assume is what you're referring to). I should have said "I hope".

I think the made good improvments with the s7 edge, never used the Note 5 myself, but the s7 edge fingerprint sensor was pretty flawless for me.

I actually used it to wake the device when pressing the home button and it reads my finger pretty much at the same time and is mostly identical to waking the device without having security on it (speed wise)

That being said, the fingerprint placment is of course an annoyance on the s8+, but if it's like some other phones I have reviewed that have the finger print sensor is also able to wake the device. So if the s8 can do the same, than that should ease the annoyance a little.

Has the S7 dropped in price already or is there a price drop to be expected following the official launch of the S8?

Looking specifically at Vodafone bil pay - €200 on the €40 pm plan.

take into account vodayfone do good trade ins on phones against new phones too.

I traded a Sony Experia Z3 for my S7(they were 250 at the time) and I got 150 for my old phone against it when CEX wouldnt entertain my old phone because they couldnt guarantee it was still waterproof and the Samsung shop in mahon in cork would only give 90 for my old phone as they said the back glass was severly scratched(when it wasnt even lighltly scratch). and that was on a that was on the 40pm contract with vodafone.

Cheers didn't know that. Still, don't want to buy the phone now only to find it drops by €50 when the S8 comes out. Unless that drop has already happened? Anyone know?

Do they only take trade ins on phones that were bought with Vodafone?

Is it OK to order this sim free from Amazon?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-S8-UK-SIM-Free-Smartphone/dp/B06XYMCMHD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492554124&sr=8-1&keywords=galaxy+s8+phone

Is this direct from Amazon/Samsung and not through a 3rd party seller?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,993 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

That seller is listed as 'Samsung Hanwha', so it's not Samsung exactly, but it may well be affiliated otherwise they would be sued for using the name. Hanwah isn't a small outfit, either, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Just received a email off of Three in relation to my pre-order saying it's temporarily out of stock, however this is highlighted:

"If you have purchased a pre-order device, please delete this email- your pre-ordered device will be shipped by its advertised release date."

If I check my tracking number it says "Order out of stock"

On their website it still advertises saying if you pre-order by 12pm on the 19th you'll receive it the 20th.

Anyone else receive one of the emails?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 smurfyirl

Ordered the S8 plus. Apparently they are more in stock than the S8. Makes sense with the cost i suppose. Hoping it arrives on the 20th anyways. No emails to the contrary from Vodafone yet!

Upgrading from the OnePlus 3. Hoping this goes well and sell it in 6/7 months for the OnePlus 4.
