F me. That's posh. You'd think you're living in a wealthy city full of high fallutin' folks from the UN etc.

Yeah, well if you really wanna live the high life you need to get in close with a UN employee so you can use them to shop in their bloody tax-free alcohol store.

    Bastards.

Lagavulin 16 would be my whisky of choice though I try to keep 7 or 8 on the go at the same time for variety's sake.

They have a distillers version which the finish in a sherry cask...Well worth a try

I've run out of whisky. So it's Drambuie instead...

I've a steadily increasing pile of whiskey in my house. Some nice bottles but a lot of Jameson Special and Blackbush as they are handy "gift quality" whiskey.

At this stage I think I'll never get to some of them, there are like 15 bottles now between family and client gifts and that's after giving away a good few of them.

Personally I like laphroaig 10 cask strength, Red Breast 12, glenmorangie 18, Jameson 18, Walker Blue and I once had a bottle of "Smokehead" that was actually quite nice.

Not a bad collection there, Walker Blue is bloody expensive over here

Laphroaig and Glenmorangie are lovely stuff. Have tried all the JWs... the really expensive one (can't remember the colour) was unbelievable.

Blue isn't *really* expensive. You can get it for 150 - 200€ but certainly it's possible to pay a lot more than that and upto $500.

I think there are a few more expensive editions but generally blue is considered top shelf in the sense that it appears on a fair few top shelves.

It's a lovely and incredibly soft whiskey. It's like having your 3rd or 4th whiskey but still having the taste appreciation of your first.

My local charges €220 for the blue ..And in my opinion, (different tastes) Redbreast 21yo is a nicer dram.
Watching the footie, so will have a little of the John Lane Sig series 12yo to lighten the mood

Personally I prefer any of the Redbreasts because I like to know I'm actually drinking a whiskey which you don't get with JW blue. It's incredibly soft and has a terrific flavour. It lacks any kind of bite though. If it wasn't so expensive it would get people in all kinds of trouble.

Colleague of mine had a dinner party a while back and a few of us brought a selection of whiskies - Hibiki 17 (gorgeous), Lag 16, Redbreast 15.

My boss brought a Johnnie Walker Red...

I stopped in Ranelagh about half an hour ago to get a couple of beers for the weekend (went to Redmonds cause I wanted to try Citra pale ale).

The crowds coming out of Supervalue carrying slabs of cans was mental.

I get the irony of me with my 4 beers the night before good Friday, but I buy a couple every Friday night so unfortunately tomorrow night is not a runner. Are people really that mad for a session that they buy mountains of beer for 1 day?

Or book a return trip from Tralee to Dublin so you can purchase alcohol on the train...

Just saw a message there from an American colleague to our other colleagues over there selling basketball playoff tickets at face value. The cost of them is staggering. Let's hope the demand for rugby tickets doesn't rise that high!

If the IRFU ever decided to be completely mercenary about it and forget the clubs, schools etc, they could probably move to a pretty outrageous pricing model in the six nations. On a demand based system tickets for Eng, Fra or Wal could be fairly outrageous and still sell out.

Demand for AIs is pretty elastic, demand for 6N is a lot firmer

    Should be.

Restaurants will mostly be closed though (after lunch time anyway) as they make a lot of their money from drinks.

I thought it was legal to sell alcohol with a meal, no?

Nope. Restaurants are under the ban too. Couple of years ago we went out to Malahide for a bite to eat on Good Friday. Every single restaurant closed aside from Siam Thai which wasn't serving alcohol.

Hotel residents only...Hotels used to offer cheap rooms Thurs night and the residents bar would open at midnight....Don't know if it's still done anymore to be honest

No such thing as a cheap hotel room in Ireland leading into Easter weekend anymore! I'd say they make a killing on rooms for that night now.

To stay out in a beautiful location such as the Red Cow will set you back €200 for B&B.

By the sounds of things this will be the last year of the ban.

I live in the schticks, we used to it for £29 .. Local hotel doing rooms for €69, so that's not too bad if you're looking to beat the ban.
Or take a Ryanair flight 9.99 each way and drink in the airport bar :)
