If labour had any sense they would jettison Corbyn now (or he should voluntarily step aside) and get the not shít Milliband or someone with similar general appeal and then run on a platform of partnership with the Lib Dems for either an incredibly soft brexit and reassessment with potential second referendum at the end of the 2 year period (take new deal, go back to way it was). Otherwise just go straight for a second referendum if they win a majority.

I think a lot of people would be galvanised by this and it's the only way I see them turning the ship around. Corbyn won't go however and as much as there are things about him that I admire and positions that I would share with him I think he needs to realise that as unfair as it is he will never lead a Government and Labour is in a death spiral under him. He's probably the first Labour leader that actually holds to their traditional party values in 30 years but c'est la vie.

Sinn Fein really couldn't have asked for better timing.

He's a walking contradiction imo. And a hypocrite. He's anti-EU, depite the fact that most worker protection and consumer protection law has come from there. In the Brexit campaign, he couldn't have been more detached if he'd joined the Tories, despite the fact that remain was party policy. He will now preside over a divided party whilst the Tories; unfettered by EU law will ride roughshod over the people he purports to represent.

An idealogue bereft of ideas.

Probably the most succinct description of him I've read. The emperor has no clothes...

I'm by no means an expert on English politics, but from the outside looking in this seems to me to a no brainer for May. With Labour in disarray and the Lib Dems not exactly a massive threat the Tories can go out and sell themselves depending on the audience.

Are you pro-Brexit? Well we are the ones who brought you Brexit? Are you unsure about a hard Brexit? We will run under the banner of a soft Brexit. Sure wasn't May herself a Remain?

It's not like Labour or the Lib Dems can promise to cancel the thing. So if the Tories manage this campaign right they could really consolidate where their position while implementing a soft Brexit. For me that's where the interesting bit of this lies, i.e. how the Tories campaign. If they campaign on a soft Brexit basis then they'll get the broadest possible spectrum of support.

Its a complete no brainer. Tories should certainly strenghten their position as the other parties are no threat. One of the Biggest issues that will come from this is another scottish referendum is certain

Corbyn is toxic but his party are nonetheless in the unenviable position of holding seats in something like the 100 constituencies with the largest 'leave' vote, and the 100 constituencies with the largest 'remain' vote. They may just want this election to blow over without nailing any colour to the mast, hit rock bottom, and rebuild under a new leader for 2020.

On the one hand, they need the British government to approve a referendum first, which might not be forthcoming. On the other hand, if Scotland were to become independent, the Tories would have a cast-iron majority in perpetuity in the remaining UK. I'd say the Tories wouldn't be too sad to lose Scotland, but they would make it a hard exit for Scotland, in contrast to the soft deal they want for themselves in Europe...

Davy Fitz gets 8 weeks. Should have missed the whole summer. Madness that the GAA are giving him what equates to a 2 match ban for running 40 yards onto the field and getting into an altercation with opposition players.

If he wasn't a media darling, there would be a far harsher response by them.

He is a smug, angry little man.

The all star awards after Clare won the all Ireland produced a cloud of smug that took months to clear.
