Found this online. Looks to me there using primary splitter 1:8 and Seconadary 1:4

Thanks. I didn't realise that. It explains the discrepancy in numbers.
Hi Navi, Kilkenny City has most if not all the rural blue lines leading out of the city completed with fibre and splice boxes done just recently in the last month, I presume as the runs are totally rural they would most likely be included in the rural figures, as they are well outside the city limts..worth a thought..

That ties in with what I believe an insider posted earlier in the thread.

Now it starting to make sense. So eir gpon network back at there main hub in the town they will have an olt, on this olt if they had just one line card of 8 ports each port feeding a splitter of ratio lets say 8:1 the line card would serve 64 customers. And that's really underestimating it it's probably more like as stated above one line card of 16 x 32:1 splitter. I'm assuming the same olt has multiple line cards.

Can this gpon topology have primary and secondary splitters from what I can see one fibre line going out from the town and then the splitters look interconnected in my area.

Either way there should be no way that ports would be full with new ffth.

Have you got Eircom ADSL at the moment?
If so won't that free up a port when you cancel that for FTTH?

What do these blue lines mean? Is fibre broadband available where there is a blue line? Closest cabinet to me is 2.2 kms away, but there is a blue line , also saw they put up the new lines.

No adsl is copper, ftth would be completely different ports. If ports were full which I don't think they are. It would need to be upgraded rather than freed up

He was asking you do you have adsl at the moment if so you would have a port at the exchange.

When I started tracking this rollout there were 3500 urban premises passed in Kilkenny. The Openeir map now states 3840 premises. I have no way of knowing if these extra 340 premises are urban or rural even though as you say some rural work is done. Therefore I have decided not to include any of the urban areas in the tracking.

But does it mean it's available now. I know line is up, but is it available.
The test line on website says no.

No don't have adsl. If I had all it would do would be free up a copper port when I order ftth. Wouldnt free up a fibre port though for ftth

No it doesn't. It means you'll have it by the end of 2018 (according to eir).

You would think that if you were investing hundreds of millions in rolling out physical fiber across the country, you would take 30 mins to train the sales staff to be able to properly sell it.

    ^^^
I wonder if these ordering issues are because FTTH is 'new' and will resolve/settle down, or are the issues due to the way the rollout is happening and will apply to each area going live regardless....?
    Kinda worrying!

"Order late" seems to be the advice then?

What I would do is wait till the date that the exchange goes live and on that date ring up Eir and ask is the exchange live yet (not all routes goes live on the first live date) as in my case I have to wait till 5th April, while other areas very nearby are live since the 8th March.

Only push through the online order when you are 100% certain your home is live and make sure to input the Eircode of your address very carefully as that is very important.

It is very tempting to do what I did which was to order as soon as the checker was passing, big mistake which has cost me 3 weeks and time spent trying to resolve the issue. My order also got mixed up with another customers order and it all went wrong and had to be cancelled.

I've just after re-ordering, hopefully it will a much smoother process this time around.

im not aware of urban ftth in tralee, not eir anyway, siro has recently gone live but i thought the only reason for rural fibre was because siro has urban pretty much rapped up in the town.

eir has 1950 premises passed for FTTH in Tralee. The rural part of Tralee's rollout has 760 premises assigned to it, which may not be ready yet? Because Eir already has lots of urban homes assigned to FTTH, it is very difficult to judge if their rural locations went live as both the urban and rural rollout share the same reference tag on the open eir map.

At a guess the majority or all of those 1950 live premises are urban. You would probably need to contact someone in Open Eir who could confirm if your area has gone live yet and if it is live, what can be done to get you connected.

It doesn't make sense that Eir would launch an area and not allow customers to sign up for a service because there is no more room.

Serious amount of work going on around Westport at the moment with loads of OpenEir/KN vans around the place. I came home on Monday to find a lovely splitter box on the pole at my house. Caught up with the installer from KN as he was working on another splitter and he reckoned it might go live in the next 1-2 months. Westport's not due until Autumn 2017 but I'm hoping that maybe (just maybe) they'll complete it ahead of schedule...

Splitter crew I met yesterday around the Curragh guesstimated it would be about 9 weeks before it could be ordered

They were on your road today actually. Three Eir vans and a crew in a tent. I see splitter boxes on the poles now too. :)

A lot of work ongoing heading out the Castlebar road. I was talking to the KN installer in Sheeaune, heading down the Cogaula road.

my order is going wrong again, just been issued an email with someone else's name and account number, time to sort this out again.

The online order system must be broken, because this is the second time I submit an order and the automatic generated emails feed back someone elses account information and someone else obviously has my account information.
