No price change to my plan unfortunately, possibly because I'm originally an O2 customer? Will have to wait for my contract to finish in November, looking forward to changing to a different network.

Yes......if you are an original O2 customer, like me, no lucky break. Also have it sit it out!

As far as I can make out, all of 3's bill pay plans are increasing in price from next month.
This means you can leave your contract if affected, without penalty.
You can check if your plan is increasing here:
    http://www.three.ie/customer-agreement/phone/
I'm just off the phone to 1800 818 021 and cancelled my contract (they're a bit pushy but you just have to stick to your guns that you don't agree to the price hike).

Get out quickly, their customer care(sic)are on a par with EIR,,,,DIRE

In fairness to Eir/Meteor while their whole back-office infrastructure (billing etc) is shockingly bad, at least you can deal with their customer care if you're persistent, and plus their network works.

odafone's Egyptian/Indian "care" teams are appalling, with no initiative or authority to resolve or do anything not in the script .

It's this latter point that's holding me from switching back... I was with VF two years ago on a similar plan and had lots of billing issues - particularly when I tried to port out. Because the account had been downgraded to PAYG the automated menu systems you get when you call them bounced me between both pre and post-pay and it was incredibly hard to get an actual person!

Eventually I had to wait till I got a letter from their collections team (which had a number for the switchboard in Sandyford) before I finally got it all resolved!

If it wasn't for 3's appalling coverage I'd stay put, but I'm genuinely torn now as I too got a letter last week saying my plan is to increase but the real problem is the "alternatives" are no better in arguably more significant ways :(

Good thing we have Comreg... oh wait, they signed off on 3 buying O2 (and all the subsequent network issues) in the first place!

Bad and all as Three and Meteor may be in different ways to Vodafone, at least their SIM only plans are only 30 days. You can port out in a matter of hours to someone else if you're stuck.

If you hit an issue with Vodafone a few months in you're usually stuck in a contract (such as their 12-month SIM only plan offer they're running at the moment)! Good luck trying to get out of that. If anyone thought Three's scripted and rigid customer support was bad, may the lord above help you if you have to ever deal with Vodafone's.

Yep I can agree there. Voda are shockingly bad at CS. Was with them on mobile for years. There broadband team are conmen at best.

Was once tied into a new contract just for requesting a speed increase on my broadband. Wait what? ... Moved to Eir and have been able to get faster speeds no problems and no contact extension...

See this is the problem/dilemma I'm having... they're ALL bad in different but significant ways :( Maybe meteor is the "better" option then.

We don't actually have a good-value, reliable, easy to deal with mobile provider in this country.

Still not sure this is correct. Either legacy O2 customers get to roam with their bundle in the EU, or 3 will have to change the contract. They won't tell me what the story is after June..

Eir have a Sim only offer for existing customers (which I am as I have broadband/fibre from them) for €25 per month with a 30 day contract. 15GB data vs 10GB on the VF offer too.

Might try that. If it doesn't do what I need I can always switch after 30 days

Anyone try postmobile? They use the Vodafone network, they've got some very good deals.

What is the deal with the early upgrade option that the Three staff are offering. I'm being offered it atm through live chat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,234 ✭✭✭✭Cee-Jay-Cee

Basically you can upgrade to anew phone but it means signing up to a new contract at the new price rates.

Not a lot of data there for those coming of 'all you can eat'

Question : if I move to 30 day sim contract, and then I decide to sign back to the regular contract (in order to get a new phone ) , will this be considered continuity in my contract? The reason I ask is I currently have 20% discount on the plans and want to retain it in the future

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭Consonata

How much do you save on the upgrade?

are you asking me? I save nothing. The saving is on the monthly payment plan

But if you were to upgrade, how much do you save on the price of the phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭tea and coffee

a couple of hundred I suppose. only problem would be if I lost my 20% discount forever, then ultimately it would cost me more over the years in extra billing than anything I would save on upgrading the phone vs buying it on PAYG

If I owe three money do I have to pay that first before I can leave my contract or can I just leave? Don't mind paying last months bill but if I can get away with not paying it I will

Once you are out of contract on a 30 day rolling contract you can port away at anytime and three will then send out a final bill. What you do with the bill is up to you. Three do have an automated system of passing debts onto bad debt collection agencies and you'll probably get your name on the Credit Insights list which some of the other phone companies (Eir and Vodafone) check before the will give you a contract.

Not advocating not paying just saying what happens if you don't.

    Can anyone answer this:

I have cancelled my contract and will be free to do whatever on April 3. Should I post my number on April 2 to make sure I keep my number on 3 PAYG or any of the others?

You retain your discount on the 30 saying rolling contract. You are free to sign a new contract under the new price plans and you will still have your 20%. I am in same position and confirmed this point 3 times when on the phone to cancel my contract.

that's interesting that you were told that. I ended up calling them and was told I would definitely lose the discount going to 30 day rolling!
I might call them again so

I'm moving to 3 PAYG and can't activate until a few days after my contact ends, was told I'll still be be able to transfer my number after that point.

It actually said on the back of said letter that any special discounts you have currently will not be effected by the plan changes you make. Or something to that extent.

I still get them too, I finished with them in 2015. Saying that i was refused a meteor €15 pm 30 day SIM only by their credit department last week!! Probably because of those stupid, your bill is ready notifications. I wrote to them querying it but they never replied, surprise surprise.
