Going to try out the switch for the 1st time today docked.

Only downside is my god the HDMI lead that came with the switch is really short It barely reaches from the back of My tv to the switch dock. Will need to get a longer one to make my TV unit look tidy.

I have a felling 900P is going to look very bad on a upscaled high end 4k Panasonic panel. This will be interesting now.

Got the Nintendo Switch dead pixel issue? Here are your consumer rights

.......If you bought your Nintendo Switch online you actually have a better chance. According to Which?, the Consumer Contracts Regulations have further protection for purchases made online, giving you up to 14 days to return the product for a full refund.

It essentially protects online purchases because sellers need to provide a full description of the goods, and if the description did not include the possibility of dead pixels on the screen, you have a decent chance of getting a refund.......

It does look a bit poor on a 4K TV, especially on the dashboard of the console, looks a bit pixelated...

Looks way better on my 1080p smart TV in my room...

Yeah the framerate is quite bad on while docked. I'm quite susceptible to it. Certain areas are horrible it was pretty much consistently at 20. But i've fought past it cause it's just so good.

Still unacceptable to be honest. It's really starting to annoy me now.
Nintendo haven't acknowledged it either as an issue.

So I was pondering getting a switch as my young lad has wrecked my PS4 and controller, and I'm finding it hard to get suitable games that he'd like. done all the free lego demos, but then came across this video on YouTube earlier

Anyone have the issues in the video? Should I hold off.

There are 1 or 2 Fbombs in the video, sorry bout that

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb-srOfRqNc

That video's had a crazy number of views. Over 5 million in less than 2 days. Seen an article published just now talking about it.

This is not the kind of publicity Nintendo needs.

Any of the Neo Geo games in the store worth a purchase? Never played any of them.

For sure. They probably won't until an update.

Well good to see some actual research going into this. Nintendo received a lot of undeserved for this thanks to click bait publications and awful games journalists just parroting it.

The Nintendo statement is a standard state that is on most manufacturers of LCD tech policies. They can say it but it doesn't make it law and it's not them that decides what is fit for purpose. It's like the ToC's that you sign for services and games, you can put what you want in it but it doesn't trump law.

However it also doesn't matter what the manufacturer says because in Europe your contract is with the retailer. It's them that you are dealing with legally if your purchase is not fit for it's intended purpose. It's the retailer you must deal with if you are returning something and if you have dead pixels you are fully within your rights to return the product as not fit for purpose.

A youtube video from unilad isn't any kind of evidence. That's all just anecdotal evidence from a handful of sources. Some could be real, I'd say a lot are of unscrupulous youtubers damaging their system to get some views. Either way, issues pop up at launch and the switch seems to have very few, the left joycon one being the only real issue and one that hasn't affected the vast majority of people. Some of the others there look like bad firmware flashes during an update, while others are just flat out physical damage. Sensationalist videos like that aren't helping though, a friend of mine came up to me after seeing that video saying the Switch launch seems like a complete disaster. If what was shown were real issues people would be talking about them and complaining about the same issue, like with the left joycon.

There's a lot of fanboys out there that just want to see the Switch burn which is baffling and kind of sad.

How are you finding the messenger bag? I have one reserved in Dundrum but not been able to find any reviews before pulling the trigger.

I ended up just going for the official case with the screen protector in the end. I have my North Face backpack with me every day and something to just cover\protect the switch and attached joy cons while in that backpack was all I needed.

    Cheers,
    M

I bought the offical nintendo case for mine -

I love it as it is black -I have the grey Switch - It says Nintendo on one side and Switch on the other side if you look close enough - I'm on the road and I play it when I'm having coffee in a restaurant.

It also comes with a screen protector - I haven't used it yet - I'm terrible at putting screen protectors on phones so I might ask a friend to do it.

I got the same one and wasn't going to put the screen protector on....then I read about the dock scratching the screen and didn't think twice about the screen protector!!

companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time.

Kinda expected they would be coming somewhere down the line. Nice to have it pretty much confirmed though.

That was the most notable piece from the interview. He didn't answer about the browser though.

so why would i buy a physical game over downloading from the estore? I'm a bit lost of the benefits of either...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

A physical game you could have for as long as you like, regardless of the servers still being available/could resell/trade in.
A digital download, you don't have to have the game cart with you to play it, so can have your games instantly available.

Another person suffering from controller drop outs here.
Tried playing Bomberman but it was unplayable approx 8 to 10 foot from the console with a clear line of sight.
Disconnecting and reconnecting using the following method sorted it for me, though I suspect only temporarily....
    http://nintendotoday.com/switch-fix-joy-con-disconnecting/

What this does tell me though is while hardware might be flawed there's still a chance firmware could fix it because there must have been interference on the channel I was using and reconnecting resolved it. Firmware could be updated to more regularly switch channels if the controller drops.

On netflix, browsers, etc. "These are not differentiators" - sorry Reg, but by definition when your competition have them and you don't, they are....

    Oh no! The ceasefire...!

Sony and MS are no longer Nintendo's competition. That all changed in gen 7 with the Wii and Nintendo are now in a different target market. Alot of gamers and people don't seem to get that yet. Nintendo have had 3 consoles in the space of time of 2 for Sony and MS, that says something.

3DS different from the Switch... sure Nintendo. Considering you've pulled all Dev resources over to Switch it's definitely a replacement. I'd say we will get a year out of it from third parties.

    They produce consumer electronics.

Who Nintendo think Nintendo's competition is is entirely irrelevant.

What matters is who consumers think is Nintendo's competition. Unless Reggie goes out every 2nd friday lunchtime and buys 30,000 WiiUs, the person making the decision at the till is making their own decision.

Yes, you can influence what those consumers think through marketing, but if we're now 3 consoles and a second decade into a cycle of "we are not competing with Sony or Microsoft" and people still don't get it, the problem is not the people.

I think it's more a case of Nintendo need to not be competing with Sony and MS. They need to carve out that niche to get this off the ground. Being the only portable offering should help but they are then competing with mobile.
