neighbours were showing a generic message showing potential to get 1000megs when entering phone number and would then fail when asking for a number or eircode.

neighbours numbers who show this message since this morning fail when checking the number but now pass when eircode is used.

I dont have the generic message or eircode checker facility on my number so the number just passes.

Just tried mine, failing for fibre, tried a few numbers on the Trim road and all are passing:eek:

if your failing on both number and eircode then tomorrow get in touch with Pamela on the Eir forum http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1293

The exchange doesn't go live till Wednesday.

I tried ordering and it seemed to go through, ordered the 300meg package and managed to choose an installation date of this Friday. They will get back in touch with me during the week to confirm that everything is ok.

What to do now, wait for Wednesday the 8th before ordering?

edit, my neighbours who have the eircode checker are still failing, yet my number is passing.

Can order 1000mb broadband ONLY @ 45 euros per month for first 4 months and 75 per month after, free installation.

Passing for it on Pure Telecom checker as well. The Digiweb checker hasn't worked for months, doesn't return any data.

Think im gonna go for the 300meg broadband, the 1000 is just overkill and coming from 8 megs this is as much speed as I need.

Forty shades of GREEN here, Gonzo, but delighted for you. Can't wait to see your speed checks. With so few posting on here who are actually connected, I was beginning to think it was all a myth :)

At last some quantifiable progress along my way down the side road from Loughgeorge on the N.W. of Claregalway:
This morning I passed a couple of Open Eir vans stringing thick black cable between the existing poles - that's fibre, right?

They were also pulling cable through ducting top of the hill by the corporate park.

I'm sure Gonzo won't see us stuck for some FTTH related media - not like some other posters :)

The poto shows a fibre passing over the copper splitter boxes, the splice box is larger and will have a coil of fibre wrapped around it. It will be on another pole.
edit: looking again I see the coil of fibre but no splice box, looks like it hasn't been fitted yet.
There is a number printed with black characters onto a yellow label stuck (vertically )to the side of the splice box, the label is large enough to be read from the ground.
Boxes from Doorus in Kinvara. The fibre was brought past my house in Mountscribe, Kinvara on Saturday,!8KY0akL.jpg3QQwyfD.jpg

I'm guessing that's temporary but does anyone know why they paint the identifier on as well as putting the sticker on it?

    Free connection.

I went for the 300meg standalone broadband.

53 Euros for first 4 months then 63 euros afterwards.

The 1000 was 45 for first 4 months then 75 afterwards.

Is that a 12 month contract? If yes then that would be equivalent to €65 per month for the 12 months. I would jump at it, and drop down after 12 months.

I suspect it might be a longer contract ...

Were you already an Eir customer? In other words, is the same deal available to new and existing customers? I'm an existing customer, but am out of contract.

I'm currently paying €115 for my terrible 2-3mb connection as I bundled the mobile with it. So I'll be going for the full 1gb speed.

12 month contract, I thought their contracts used to be 18 months.

yep previously an Eir customer, I think the price is the same weather your an Eir customer or not.

There is bigger discounts for the 1000meg package.

    It's 45 for 4 months and then 75 from months 5-12.

I was gonna go for the 1000 but a few friends who have Virgin Media recommended that I go for the 150 or 300 as there is no real difference in going for the 1000 when most services wont make use of that sort of speed.

It would have been nice to get the 1000 just for the speedtest but after that, the 1000 is overkill unless you have a large family with everyone using it. The fair usage policy is also the same across all FTTH plans so there really is not advantage of going for the 1000 unless you really need that 100 upload.

    I would've liked if there was a 4th package, something like 600/75.

I think 150mb/50 enough for most people needs doh it nice having a choice what speed package you like to go with instead of upto nonsense.

probably is, especially for us out in the sticks used to struggling and hair pulling with single digit speeds!

    Im going from 9 / 0.5 to 300 / 30 so it's gonna feel strange!

The fasted internet I have personally used was a 26 meg connection in a hotel and that just felt so fast to me.

I just worked out going for the 300 is not a huge saving over the 1000 for the first 12 months:

    150: 12 x 55 = 660
    300: 4 x 53 + 8 x 63 = 716
    1000: 4 x 45 + 8 x 75 = 780

I still think the 1000 should have extra incentive such as a larger data allowance. There should also be another pack with speeds around 600. Maybe even a budget pack offering same speed as FTTC with 100/20 for 50 a month.

    Ohhhhh look at you...

    9mb................... fancy you....;)

I topped out one Wednesday in May at 2.15mb but realistically I would average about .5 to .75 down.

last night we had high winds and rain and it dropped to 0.1:mad:

    did you try 3g/4g?

basic 3g mobile would be better than that in most places. 3g in my area can get about 16 / 4, just didnt move to it as I was waiting for this FTTH and the data allowance on 3G is not good. However, if nothing else was coming my way I would've gotten it for when I need something faster. Mobile broadband is better than ADSL1 speeds through most of the country.

I have a 3G dongle that I use but so do may others !! also weather has a huge impact on speeds and reliability. I use phone for most browsing and do so over 4H don't connect to wifi at home. Again weather has an impact as does number of people connected.

We had 2 wireless providers and tested both but any rain or wind killed the connection.

Imagine became available last year but as we were up for FTTH I held off.

People were questioning Eir's (lack of) advertisement of FTTH. They do advertise it on Facebook but it only shows depending on where you've set your "home" on Facebook. See image:

Are those prices only for Rural FTTH?

They made a bit of a mess of my order initially anyway and the price I was charged was arse but it's not this amount anyway..

I think the price reductions and contract times are very new, the FTTH plans by Eir are the same for rural and urban. Im almost certain the contracts were 18 months-24 months up till Saturday, now they are all 12 months.
