Why is everyone switching to 30 prepay sim only instead of €20? That looks better to me (my wife is on three and I don't really ring other phones or send many texts.) Data is all I need really.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks..

While the €30 deal is better value for a lot of people its worth remembering that you keep your €20 top up if three don't manage to gouge it back with out of bundle charges. If you are canny you can spend the €20 in the google store or on addons to get better value.

The 30 day has all network calls and texts included where the PAYG doesn't. So if you use those the 30 day is a better option. Otherwise the PAYG seems better.

I'd also consider how much data you use. Many people who think they are heavy users are actually under the cap for PAYG on other networks.

For me its all about avoiding bill shock. Whatever plan does that.

    Thanks!

But I'm confused. So my plan is Classic Flex Max 350 which costs 25.41, going to €30. However it does not include all calls and texts.

    https://www.three.ie/my3account/priceplans/billpay-sim-flex-max.html

The prices are still being quoted as the old prices which is confusing as hell.

So what 30 plan are people referring to here?

    For anybody wondering:

Just switched over to Virgin media. Had a little issue porting my number so had to ring up, customer service were very kind and ported it for me! Made sure everything went through correctly, and within 30 seconds of a confirmation from 3 saying my number has been requested for porting, the network died and I put in my new virgin sim card and it was all set up and ready to go.

Depending on the phone, you may or may not get a text with the new APN settings. My Nexus 6p did not but they have a guide on their website of how to input them and its very straight forward.

Signal wise, strange as it is since they are on the three network basically, my 4g signal seems to be better as does the speeds, around 18mbps where as I used to get about 5-8 mbps with three.

    Anyway so far so good!

The 30 plan that people are talking about is the sim only plan. Unlimited data calls and texts to all networks.

Think its 29.95 at the moment rising to 30 after the price increase.

Its a bill pay one that you get unlimited everything on but it locks you into a contract for 24 months

I think the particular 30 plan people are talking about on here is a 30 day rolling contract. Not a 24 month one.

No, it's a sim only 30 day rolling contract.

EDIT: Oops didn't see that someone just said the same thing!

I'd hazard a guess that the Classic Flex Max 350 plan (30 day sim only) will disappear considering it's going to be the same price as the Unlimited Flex Max version (€30 pm).

Quick question, if I want to move to another provider do I still need to call Three's "dedicated team" to cancel my contract or does the porting request serve as notice of cancellation?

If you're in a contract you'll need to let them know formally that you want out.

my bill date is in 3 days, and she says my plan will change over then, i was paying 40 a month and usually i was going over this to 50 and 60 if I rang other networks, the 30 day sim only is unlimited calls and texts and they normal unlimited date, i usually use up to 20gb pm

I finally got through on Sunday after a weekend of on hold and my end date is still 07/2018

By your post above, I'll give it till my bill date 09/03 to see if it changes then

I now cannot even get into my account - the page wont load when I click on My3 (keep getting "This site can’t be reached" error)

Anyway, considering I spent nearly the whole day trying to get through, I wont bother trying to call them again to check they've cancelled my contract. I'll send them a letter just to confirm I've cancelled everything over the phone and I will port to ID Mobile network in the next few weeks. My husband has been using it for the past 3-4 months and it's brilliant - you get 300min + 30gb of 4G data and you keep your 15eur credit. And it should be interesting to see if their 30gb can be used outside of Ireland as well. According to their website, it looks like it can be used:
"When roaming in the EU you can use your domestic minutes to call and text EU mobiles and landlines and use data. However, you will be subject to a surcharge. "

Not sure what the surcharge is though or how much it is. Still better deal than Three, I think.

Just off the phone to 3 now, having been on hold for about 45 minutes (thought they might have all gone home!)

The woman I spoke to was great, nothing was a problem. Contract which was due to run to November 2018 has been terminated as of tonight. She moved me on to a 30-day rolling SIM-only plan and put in an unlock request for the phone I got last September.

Very pleased with this - big thanks to the OP!

Lad at work suggested that virgin use the older o2 network and don't get the same lte speeds as three. Thanks for debunking that. I'll probably switch to virgin when my phone unlock comes through

AFAIK the old o2 infrastructure had no capabilities of offering LTE.

Well done you ! I'm in a similar position so I'm going to do the same. What's involved in the 30-day rolling SIM-only plan in terms of data usage/calls/texts.

Edit - Just checked their site and it's not a bad deal at all. Thanks for the heads up

Got through after 36 minutes on hold after 8 o'clock - told the guy exactly what I wanted and he had me sorted in 1 minute flat. Really don't know why the Twitter 3 customer care people refused to do the exact same thing for me, smacks of 3 trying to put obstacles in the way of people accessing their legal right to cancel.

I didn't even know you could normally just tweet 3 to cancel. Do all the carriers allow Tweet2Cancel?

48 and Tesco Mobile are still on the old O2 network AFAIK. Grand in Dublin but becoming dire in any slightly rural area.

Anyone here have the three modem at home. I've got the 60 GB one for €29.99 ( special offer when I signed up) should have been €40. Got a letter today saying it's going up €3. Can I change this to a sim as well?

    No, check online.

Firstly, it's not unlimited talk and text currently.

Secondly, it's reducing to 28 days (from 30) and you'll be losing the unlimited weekend calls.

I had a 10% discount which was not being transferred to sim only contract so doubt it

It sounds like they are on an old O2 plan not a 3 plan. I was on something similar a few years ago before moving to billpay.

I think 3 are being shrewd with their timing. Most ppl haven't left 3 and have just switched to sim only. New phones such as the S8 will be out in April, so that will tempt a lot of ppl back into contracts.

Ultimately it'll be more like a temporary dip in revenue and as has already been stated here, the majority of ppl are lazy and won't go to the trouble of getting out of their contract.
