After upgrading to the €40 plan on a 24 month contract with a new galaxy s6 yesterday, they have let me keep the phone, downgrade to a €30 plan with no contract so I could go back tomorrow and upgrade again though I'd be upgrading to one of the new contracts.

I'm so glad I no longer work for a Three store. Can only imagine what people would be like after getting this news. Price going up with no additional benefits, not many people are gonna be happy with that. Even the feckin' prepay offer is changing, losing my free weekend minutes ffs.

by canceling my 3 contract I will save €268 over the next year. Thank you BigCon

I just upgraded also on Friday and got new phone. I would be tempted to change but nobody else does data as good.

Cancel keep the phone, sign up again and get another phone, flog one of the phones.

Or cancel, keep the phone and switch over to a rolling contract. It'll be half the price.

What is the 40 euro a month contract going up to? Still says 40 in the link on the OP.

Kinda raging with myself. Was gonna get the P9 at Christmas. Would have a shiny new phone for almost free now but decided to hold out for the spring flagships instead.

Is meteor upping their prices as well? The indo article was referring to three and meteor finding some loophole with roaming charges.

That's me gone anyways. Looking at Tesco and Virgin - anyone got any experience of them? Been with three for so long now but I don't use the phone much, so I'm just thinking the 30 day plans for €15

Here's the actual notifications, I had to do a google search for them

I'm now on the €30 sim only 30 day rolling contract. So essentially I'm saving around €180 by changing. Might not be much to some on this thread but it'll ease the car bills due in the next couple of months for me.

    Cheers OP.

    a general query.

My contract is up in april but i am due an upgrade now.i assume by accepting the upgrade i extend the contract by 12/18/24 months.

if i decide the accept then cancel the contract due to the change in contract would i have a leg to stand on?

I just called them and gave 30 days notice, all went swimmingly.

    As I would see it:
    • You signed a contract on particular terms in December. This was the agreement between both parties.
    • One party is now giving notice of varying the terms of the contract. The other party is materially affected by it.
    • The second party is entitled to say no, and exit the contract without penalty.

The main question is whether three can demand payment for the phone which would have been paid for over 18/24 months, and does this count as penalty?

The phones are advertised as being "free" with the contract so you keep the "free" phone, not your fault three want to change the contract.

    ****, that's amazing!

Do you need to reference the price increase?

Is there a time limit on this?

You have (i think) 30 days from the price announcement to for the "free cancellation".

If you are in contact, your only grounds to cancel is the price increase, so best to mention it.

    That sounds perfect.

I did my upgrade two months early so I'd be looking at 26 months. My Mrs also upgraded a couple of months ago so it looks like double savings.

It just seems too good to be true.
I paid €49 for my upgrade so it would be a cheap phone.

    It's just not believable!

Just off the phone there . Transferred from the 55 a month flex plan to the 30 a month unlimited sim only plan. Only took out contract in October with a Samsung s7 . Was off the phone in under ten minutes and didn't have to argue my case etc

So they can just switch it and you don't need to separately order a sim and then transfer number over ?

    Thanks

How?? Are you gonna give up your phone or something?
I assume you will be changing provider so you won't be saving that.

And they'll keep telling you this right up to a few minutes before they actually announce a price increase.
Considering they've just redesigned all their bill pay plans on the premise of using data like home while roaming in Europe, I doubt they'll be reneging on it anytime soon.

Anyone made any amendments to an Open Basic plan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭woidoi

It doesn't make a massive difference but for those considering moving to prepay from bill pay -
    According to the notification here
    http://www.three.ie/customer-notification/prepay-service-change-effective-from-3rd-april-2017_20/
the term of service has reduced from 30 to 28 days, i.e. you have to top up every 28 days as opposed to 30.
365/30= 12.16 or 12 top ups per year
365/28= 13.03 or 13 top ups per year

Also according to the notification, you will also be losing the free any network calls at the weekend.

i am paying 60 per month, and have 18 months left.

if i change to pay as you go, and do the €20 per 28 days, i will save between €600 and €650.

and, i use wattsapp / messenger for 75% of my calls anyway, so, to me it is a no brainer.

oh, and i get to keep the Iphone 7

My sister was on the 55e contract, going up to 60. Locked in till October. She just switched to the 30e rolling contract. Saved her 210e assuming she upgrades in October when her contract would have ended anyway.

Thanks OP. Wish I wasn't vodafone!
