Ah now, old school musicals are great.

Always liked Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. This scene is just absolute class.

That's one I watched many times in my Grandmothers house.

I like your taste in musical cinema, as well as your Bantu name. :)

All my siblings hate musicals. When we were kids we'd start watching a movie and then someone would start singing we'd all collectively go 'oh nooo' and proceed to go outside and play in the rain. ( no singing though ).

Uggg, I can't stomach any of those. Top of the list would be anything with Julie Andrews in it. Uggggh.

    You take that back!! :(

Erm, just like to say my OP wasn't meant to be an attack on musicals, or ppl that like them (I believe in being tolerant), but was just an attempt at kicking off a chat about tonight's Oscars, of course.

If I had intended to just have a swipe at musicals my post would have looked a little bit more like this:
Remember CHICAGO - what a load of shyte that was !

How can anyone hate musicals? They've given us some timeless cinema, from Mary Poppins to The Wizard of Oz, to West Side Story or Grease or The Sound of Music!

Just add in Willie Wonka and you pretty much have a list of my most hated films. At least you didn't include the one good musical there - The Blues Brothers.

Not legally to the best of my knowledge.

Remember folks that posting links to, or the names of illegal streaming sites or apps is not permitted on Boards. Thank you.

    Denzel has aged !

Hope that's the Meryl Streep bit out of the way for the rest of the night.

A coloured person wins the first oscar. Although he was playing a black person so it doesn't really count as equality.

I'm hoping Manchester By The Sea or Moonlight win Oscars tonight. Both are far better movies than La La Land.

Haven't watched La La Land but I've seen the other two and don't really know what the fuss is all about. Do we just need a moderately sad storyline to be in contention for an Oscar nowadays.

I was glad when both movies ended.

La La Land director looks very young, it is likely to be the big winner

Anything that facilitates the distribution of copyrighted material without the permission of the owner is illegal. but it's OK, I removed the name of the app so we'll call off the law. :)

I went to see La La Land this evening and I loved it!
(I did not love the two old codgers who started a full blown conversation 3 minutes before the end, though. :/ )

Now I'm not watching the Oscars so this may be out of context, but he's hardly gonna play a white person since he's black.

One of the dullest oscars in history becomes one of the most unforgettable in history in a split second. Well, noting like a good unexpected twist at the end.

To be fair, wasn't really his fault and a huge pressure moment to realise something was wrong. Millions of eyes on you and you're holding the wrong envelope. What would anybody do in this situation?

    This too shall pass.

Just one of the funniest things ever. Oh jaysus.

An aside, didn't Ruth Negga look amazing and to not win along side Meryl Streep.....wow. You go girl.
