Americans complained for years about Europe getting better special editions, so can't complain too much. Very few are worth the money and even less so at a console launch when software and hardware prices are the highest they'll be in their lifetime.

Are Smyth's due to give me goodies on the night or am I "just" getting a Switch and LoZ?

I've gotten random bits from Smyths when I've collected pre orders. I've a tiny Mario Kart 8 t-shirt and a giant Mario Maker badge. They never said there were any incentives to pre order either as far as I'm aware.

I was only looking at the wiki for the MGS series there today.
My son is playing through MGS3 at the moment, on the 3DS, and I was telling him that we have the extended Subsistence version on the PS2 as well.
So, took a look online and we seemed to have done far better than the Japanese in this regard, who got much the same content but in very limited quantities.
But that was the sort of limited edition that was well worth the money, with more in common with the Game of the Year editions we see, combining DLC and other bonuses, rather than some filler material and other crap.
My favourite limited edition stands at GTAIV, with key rings, lockbox, bag, even better than the GTAV equivalent.

Old news but for those of you who intend to charge your switch on the go, it's worth investing in a quality usb-c cable.

Alot of the big name brands didn't have the 56k ohm resisor on their cable so when plugged into something like a laptop to charge your phone, the phone tried to pull more power than the laptop could provide causing serious damage.

Went and preordered Zelda and Switch 1/2. Mario Kart isn't launch as I thought for some reason but I threw a fiver down for it at the same time. Shouldn't have subscribed to this thread, getting super excited now :)

Did anyone get the Zelda special edition?

I have it pre-ordered in Smyths, I wish we got the edition with the cool case but I'll just have to get a separate case instead!

I wasn't interested in 1,2 Switch until those new videos came out, it looks kind of fun in them!

I picked up an adaptor for my micro USB charger, so I could use it to charge my Nexus 6p, worked fine for a week or two then, one evening, noticed the phone wasn't charging and, checking the connection, found the little adaptor was almost too hot to touch, kinda nervous now!

Got mine coming from the Nintendo UK store. Kinda wondering now if I shouldn't try and move it to gamestop/ smyths to guarantee it for launch day

I think 1-2 switch looks a lot better than it did at the reveal, just not €50 better.

There's another muppet doing it too. That guy Triforce who was "first" in line for the Wii U. But like you say, they're not really first. I wouldn't give them any publicity.

Would have been so funny if someone else had started queing up outside while they were inside the store

The official AC Cheever is €35. I wonder is it worth it or just grab some cables to use with chargers I have now?

Well pre ordered Switch yesterday in smyths with Zelda... Good prices on amazon uk at the moment for release games...

I remember Nintendoland been completely written off when people saw it, that turned out to be a pretty impressive collection of games. The difference being of course that you didn't have to buy it, but game wise I'd hold judgement on any game before I played it.

Looked into this extensively when I had a HTC 10. Went through all the reviews yer man from google did.

And basically this is one of the best adaptors to use with a standard micro usb charge cable. Has the resistor and all. Have zero issues with it.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Adapter-Converts-Resistor-ChromeBook/dp/B01AHKYIRS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486320308&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+usb-c+to+usb+adapter

This is one of the best cables if you want to go from regular usb on your power pack straight into your switch. Have this also.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Pull-up-Resistor-MacBook-ChromeBook/dp/B011995DDO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486320473&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+usb-c+to+usb+3.0+cable+3.3ft

Both are 13 quid. Worth it I think.

Believe it or not some of the high end Anker stuff doesn't have the resistor. Same with Aukey and a few other well known brands. Stick with their entry level and you will be grand.

Here's a prediction (I saw on Neogaf) Virtual Console might not launch with the switch, but they'll give it a really big push for the beginning of the summer.

If we see more of 1-2 Switch and it looks even better and I can get it for 40 quid ish, I'll take a punt.

I don't do online play (basically no interest in playing strangers) so it's single player for me. Not even interested in this 1 2 yoke. Just seems dumb. So it will be Zelda for me on day 1. Does Bomberman even have a decent single player ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

It has a single player :P

Gah, Zelda with 10% discount on Tesco direct is much cheaper than Gamestop, but zero chance I'd get it for launch day. Annoying.

Overwatch would be good on the switch in fairness

All comes down to sales and how difficult it would be to port across

I was thinking this the other day, our young lads are obsessed with Overwatch on their PC....

I think Nintendo are missing a trick if they don't have it on Switch, I think it could work unbelievably well on it, and a huge seller regardless...

I haven't picked it up on PS4 as I find it more of a pick up and play for 10 mins type game, perfect for switch IMO

I'd say Nintendo don't think an online focused game like it with no campaign would work....

I have those for my HTC 10 too and will also go on record as saying they've never given me any problems. Do keep in mind though that they'll be limited in charging speed compared to a normal USB C cable. The most I get on them is about 900mA compared with about 3000mA on the one that came with the phone itself. 900mA is still decent though.

I don't think the graphics would really be the thing to hold it back tbh, it seems like it's generally a pretty non-intensive game on PC with a lot of options to turn things down to get it to play on older hardware and laptops. I'd say the bigger obstacle would be whether Blizzard thought it was worth spending money to do. If Nintendo's online service isn't going to be a big improvement on what they've done in the past, I can't see them expecting to sell too many copies compared with the other versions.

Is it true that the Pro Controller's triggers are digital and not analogue?

That could mean goodbye to GC on the VC (yo).

It seems like a missed opportunity. I don't know what's involved in utilising analogue triggers instead of digital but I can't see any racing sims being ported over now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

It's not the end of GC VC, they could compensate for that in some way for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,405 ✭✭✭Pac1Man

Hopefully. I'm sure we'll still see some fine racers too, just no F1 or Moto GP and the like.

They're not for everyone but it would be amazing to have them on the go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

I'd love to see Overwatch in theory, but you'd either need a really good idea for spilt screen local multiplayer, or restrict the ability to play it away from Wi-fi, however that'd work.

Can someone tell me if I plug the switch into a PC monitor with no speakers how I will get sound ? I assume once the switch is docked the headphone jack is disabled as audio will be routed over HDMI. So will there be wireless headphones available that uses a USB dongle.
