I was thinking, when it comes to
This whole brand ambassador thing for instance the skinny tea,
They are contracted to talk about it, I'm
    Assuming several snaps per week.
Make up fairy and grace claim they don't need to #ad because they are not paid to talk about the tea at that particular time.

What about people who missed the snap where they said they were brand ambassador or they Get new followers how are they supposed to know .
I've seen snaps where they are randomly talking about making a cup of the tea and flashing pics of the tea with no #ad.

How does being a brand ambassador allow them to not be completely transparent and why would these ambassadors not just add the # it takes two seconds.

Thats what i thought as rosie stayed well out of it on social media where a few other where sending grace messages of support... Will grace come back and say how it went?

I've noticed in general Rosie stays away from grace.
Tbh I don't blame her many people would tar them with the same brush.
And probably cause more people to watch Rosie talking about brands more closely

And if someone was sent something as a gift and they spoke about it on snapchat is that spon or ad?? Or neither as it was a gift and they just wanted to say thank you via social media?

Gifts or PR samples don't need to be #ad unless they are sent something for free and asked to give it a positive review it does not need to be #ad.

I don't follow grace any more (did for a few mins to see her apology to Rosemary but deleted again) so didn't see there snaps re Aldi but disnlook at blog post. No mention of #ad which is bizzare as that usually where they put it and not in the snaps!! With her being on tv and radio last week Talking about how great she is at disclosure you would imagine she would be extra careful about all this!! Wonder will the ASAI see this if they are monitoring it all?

If they were sent something for free and they were told to say good things about the product then yes they should have #ad or #sp. And if they were sent something for completely free without being told to say anything then they don't have to #ad or #sp.

I think this should be stickied.

A gift doesn't have to be declared as an ad.

RMC was posting on Snapchat last night about a meal preparation delivery company (I can't remember the name but they send you recipes and all the ingredients). She stated that she received it for free, but she wasn't receiving any money for so it wasn't an ad. She also had a discount code for it, she's getting a small cut for everyone who used the discount code. So I found that a bit confusing. Obviously she's going to be positively promoting the company, so I don't see why it's not an ad....I'm sure what she's saying is above board as she's being very careful at the moment, but it does seem like a bit of a loophole. At least she was being completely transparent about it I guess!

oh ok, maybe damage control on Grace's part then!

That's what I was thinking. Grace mentioned this morning she just found out Rosie was going to the same event as her.
Surely if they were as closely as they used to she would have known this information before now.

They have to make it clear they are working with the brand when they talk about it. If you read the ASAI thing it's in there i posted it a few pages back about the ambassador thing.

Yep..i think grace is going to try and do damage control and pull in as many favours as she can over the next few days....

Well I've seen them two girls randomly talk about having a cup of the tea without mentioning they are brand ambassador.
Obviously I know they are but new followers don't know this therefore think they just like the tea.

I thought once a blogger has been paid by a brand even if they are an ambassador that they still needed to have #ad

At least she is saying that by giving out a code...any purchases will earn her money but in order to earn this, she will have to do a blog post.snap chat and whatever else earning this company advertising so is it an ad as she gets something in return?

I see Chloé Boucher is in Paris with a lot of top UK bloggers. She hasn't mentioned anything about why she's there but from the UK snappers they are at a seriously cool Bourjois event for a few days.

Its great to see Irish bloggers at these huge events, just wonder why she hasn't mentioned why she's there, like the UK bloggers have.

Also I wonder why the bigger bloggers here don't get to go over to Paris with them. Pippa is always advertising Bourgois makeup!

This hasn't really anything to do with the ad thing! But does it annoy (less then annoy but not know a diff word to use!) you when a beauty snapchatter is showing a product on there and just reads out every word exactly as it is on the packaging! It just bugs me in can read, I can see what it says! Just some one was showing stuff today and one thing was 'bathbombs for the bath'. Was thinking do you really think your followers are that stupid!

I agree. It must be disclosed that it was free in exchange for a positive review. Consumers have to be protected.

If it's just a free gift without strings attached then it just needs to be disclosed that its a free gift and does not require an #ad or #sp.

Rosanna in Lidl and not a #ad in sight.

I don't think that correct, free samples don't require any disclosure, as long as they're no strings attached

Dominique Neugant she's a relatively new blogger. Working with L'Oréal. Never #ad when announced on instagram just said she was working with them now. Was this enough disclosure.?
Also she is using one of their products today and never mentioned that she was working with them or #ad

If there is nothing to hide there should be no problem with stating you're given product X to try out by Y company.

Free goods are a very powerful influence and should always be disclosed. There are many people that will rave about a company just to get free merchandise and get in tight with a company.

Free samples is a real incognito term in beauty blogging. For most people these mean something that comes in a sachet. For online influencers they get way more than a free sample. They get free merchandise from various businesses in the hope that they will give the product a thumbs up.

Its all about protecting the consumer. You can already see it in the gaming industry where influencers announce that they received product X from company Y before they begin to speak about it.

Isn't she a hairdresser though first and foremost? Or has she given that up to be a blogger fulltime?

No she works in her family owned furniture shop. She isn't actually a hairdresser but is amazing at doing braids and upstyles so takes appointments for them in her free time. You might be thinking of their friend Ali?

I don't disagree with your opinion necessarily, but it's about what they are obliged to do under advertising standards rather than what we feel they should do!

just saw that Pippa is now a judge for the image awards. She's judging makeup, and got boxes and boxes of the makeup to try and test etc. She showed off some of the products in the boxes. She spoke about Bourjois foundation and Aimee Connollys sculpted set. Is this not a bit weird seeing as she is paid by companies to promote their products and is good pals with Aimee? for example she's always showing bourjois and theres no way its not an ad and then she hired Aimee for her masterclasses?. Just seems a bit odd in my opinion. As I watched her snaps I kinda thought some of the products in the boxes don't stand a chance as she is currently promoting and mentioning some products on a daily basis. Seems a tad unfair? Maybe thats just me though. Marrissa carter is a judge as well and she's judging skincare.

What do others think? Or is it me being over sensitive? Reminds me of the sponsors of the gossies being nominated themselves!

Hopefully Rosemary had a word in Grace's ear today about transparency and Grace's inability to grasp what's required. She doesn't seem to have a clue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭Puggly

Grace has put #sp at the end of her blog post now. From reading the ASAI guidelines doesn't it have to made clear from the start that it's a ad?

Did she say she was getting a cut of the sales? It's entirely possible to be given a discount code for your followers without being given a cut.

Funny, I was only thinking the same myself while watching her snaps. More so when I seen Aimee's palette crop up and the way she said sure I already love that! I was thinking, there's no way she's not going to give her the award for that category! Also I'd imagine SJ's palette would be in that category too... Not that I've ever seen Pippa using it! It will be interesting to see what the results will be.

Here's something I don't get..., jk is currently in FX buckleys for dinner. Whilst there he's been brought to kitchen to view the charcoal ovens, been shown different cuts of meat, given a tour of the wine cellar. Now ive never been to this place ( and looking at the prices Im never likely to be ) but do all patrons get the grand tour? Or does he walk in, say look I'm so and so, comp our meal and ill snap the lot. If not it seems like a very ott dinner for a random Tuesday evening. No #ad tho.

Well technically the regulations say its only if theyre paid cash that they have to declare #ad? This is what bloggers say anyway. Doesnt apply to goods/services and therein lies the issue if you ask me.
