Article about the autism stuff. I'm surprised you missed it.

Katie Rich of ‘S.N.L.’ Is Suspended for Tweet Mocking Barron Trump. That's the one about the homeschool shooter.

There are loads of examples of the left losing it and being worse than the people they hate. And the conversation I made up in my head was on point.. If we bring up anyone you guys like in a negative light, they're irrelevant and we're deflecting.

Let's be fair here, Katie Rich was widely condemned by the "left" and she was suspended because of what she said, personally I think she should be released permanently.

Let's also not forget the absolute trash said against the Obama children and Chelsea Clinton so it's not fair to say they're "worse than the people they hate".

Personally I've always been of the belief that the children of well-known figures are off limits, but sadly there are absolute arseholes on both sides.

Is it travel suppression that one needs a passport and maybe other paperwork to travel?
When I was in Texas, I was watching local news on TV as the first day of early voting started, they named a series of different forms of ID one could use at the voting stations, it was nothing different to what you see here in Ireland, I was wondering while watching, why do people call this voter suppression when we have similar rules here in Ireland?
It didn't make sense, it seemed like an excuse to get people to vote who were questionable if they had a right to vote. I am not saying there was voter fraud, just the voter suppression thing is equally a bizarre claim.

Trump said Barron was affected by the stuff people have been saying about him.

Barron at 10 years of age doesn't have children, it is the stuff that is directly targeted at Barron, not his father.

It's a combination of rules that affect minorities. Close down voting booths in minority areas. Make them have a driving license. The problem with the making them have a driving permit is that 1) in texas most minority neighbourhoods don't have a DMV office and 2) they open at stupid hours. So if you're one of the 15% of hispanic residents who doesn't drive then getting a license is hard.
In Wisconsin a federal judge rules against the state in voter ID laws because they said the state made it harder to get a license.
Back in 2000 in florida they removed the names of a load of felons from the registry. That's wrong (if you've served your time it's wrong to continue to remove rights) and secondly when they removed them from the list they removed them by first initial and surname. So if your name was J Chavez (a common combination) you ended up being removed from the register because another J Chavez committed a crime. And minorities were more affected than whites by that change. I believe well over 100,000 voters were wrongly disenfranchised in the months before the election. many didn't realise until the election was happening. And that was in an election where Bush won Florida by a few hundred votes.

Here's a short video where republicans admit the whiole point of it is to suppress the democratic vote.

This is a bit more about the segment from the daily show (I can't find the full clip. If anyone knows where it is online could you let me know. The only link I can find is on comedy central and it's blocks if you're not in the US).

And here's a segment from last week tonight where they talk about North Carolina's voting laws which were struck down. When they enacted the laws they specifically asked for voting information based on race and then enacted laws to target black people. The politicians that did this said that although it was a partisan move they weren't racist

I really don't know what the issue is with ID requirements. Seriously people, you already give over all authority over you country and life to politicians through democracy and all you need to do is turn up every few years, spend some time to read up on the issues and the standing of the politicians and vote.

Maybe it is a hassle to get ID, but would voters prefer that there was no controls and if they think Russia might have tried to influence this election imagine if they had no controls?

Anybody that had issues with ID this year now has 4 years to sort it out before the next time.

I don't think Trump has any basis for his claims but there can never be an arguement against ensuring that things are working. In Ireland we could do with sorting out our voting register for a start

The only people I see mentioning Barron are Trump-supporters on here. You don't him to be in the spotlight cause he's only a 10yr old? Well stop talking about him then ffs. It's that simple.

Its always been the case that you could use a utility bill or dss card as id, what some Republicans want is photo id in the form of driving licence or passport.
This was deemed unconstitutional by the federal court in NC as it would overwhelmingly effect people of colour. So you might think it's bizarre but courts didn't.

In Pennsylvania you can challenge people at the polls to prove who they say they are. Republican attorneys have challenged students who were voting and forced them to get an affidavit from a friend to attest that they were who they said they were and that they lived in the district.

I don't think it's a problem with ID itself, it's the way it tends to be implemented.

How so? I guess its different in the US as its state driven unlike Ireland which is statewide.

But surely the basic tenants are the same. Register to vote, bring the right ID (licence/passport) and vote.

How is it any harder for one type of citizen to get a type of ID than another?

Are they prevented from getting a passport, or travelling to a polling booth?
I live in the countryside and have to travel miles to vote.

I saw this posted by someone on Facebook, and I'm wondering is it fake news or is Trump going to turn on Vaccines soon?

    http://www.anonews.co/donald-flue-shot/

Donald has emboldened the conspiracy gossip merchants, they're attaching him onto all their stories.

Alex Jones is on about divinity and the second coming of Christ.

It's hilarious listening to Alex Jones call other media fake news then go on to explain how celebrities are under the effects of "MK Ultra" mind control.

I think the world needs this. For too long we've made assumptions about reality from our comfortable couches based on ignorance, it's time for the privileged to see what happens when ignorance meets reality.

We should all pay attention to America, it about to teach the world a valuable lesson.

My bet is that he will. Vaccines have already appeared quietly with his appointing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to chair a presidential commission on vaccine safety. Because of course he appoints an anti-vaxxer to the role . But he made comments linking vaccines to autism - the usual rubbish, pretty much - during the campaign. I don't think he used to believe it, but he's taken up a lot of crank beliefs since he started playing politics, and he's showing a worrying tendency to follow through with them.

Fascinating to watch people condoning immigrant ban even against those with green cards. How to further marginalise Muslims and divide America...

Trump said he would do this if he got elected.
He should've put Saudi Arabia on the list though

In 2016, the editorial board endorsed, the third time since the magazine's founding, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a rebuke of Donald Trump's candidacy.[31]

    Hardly interesting at all.

Are people actually defending this hare-brained policy that has left perfectly legal US residents trapped in limbo in airports all over the world because of an accident of birth? Literally all they have done is have the misfortune to have been born in a majority muslim country that does not have a bunch of Trump businesses in it

    People like this young man:
Ali Abdi, an Iranian with permanent residency of the US, is in limbo in Dubai.

He can not go to Iran because he has been outspoken about human rights violations there, he can not return to the US because of the visa bans and he can not stay longer in Dubai as his visa will run out. He said on his Facebook page:

I am an Iranian PhD student of anthropology in the US. Doing fieldwork is the defining method of our discipline. I left New York on January 22nd, two days after he was sworn in. Now in Dubai, waiting for the issuance of my visa to enter Afghanistan to carry out the ethnographic research. The language of the racist executive order he just signed is ambiguous, but it is likely to prevent permanent residents like me from returning to the country where I am a student, where I have to defend my thesis.

Meanwhile, it’s not yet clear whether the consulate of Afghanistan in Dubai would issue the visa I need in order to stay in Kabul for a year, and I cannot stay in Dubai for long or my UAE visa would expire. It’s not wise to go to Iran either.
This is just one story among thousands.

Very interesting to see what Ryan and Mc Connell do about this, likely **** all.

Nobody is suggesting they should adopt Merkel style open borders, but bloody hell this is so bleak and likely counter productive. Its a gift for ISIS propaganda as it really strengthens us v them narrative.

Clumsy stuff like this is why far right loons are not the answer to sort Islamic terrorism.

I see there's anger and commentry this morning about him not waiting for melina to escort her from the car to the door. He's the president, surely she should have got out and waited for him (equality and all that)! Or equally she could walk to the door unescorted by a man.

What do the alt left think?

Strong independent woman. Also needs escorting by a man.
