Ah I was wondering why that was.

once all stock is gone from initial supply there wont be any back in til april is what the lad in the patrick street cork gamestop said.

I think CEX will have some. The PS4 was in short supply when it came out but CEX had bought in stock from some shops and punters looking to make a buck and were selling them on for crazy money. A mate got 530 euro for his 1 day old PS4 !! Hopefully the gouging this time won't be as bad, though I'd expect Adverts to be pants as usual.

I preordered mine on day 1 from Amazon. Thinking of preordering this carrying case.

Maybe a tempered glass screen protector from Orzly too depending on how rubbish the plastic one is that comes from Nintendo though or if I end up with air bubbles as usual.

Unless you're mental don't buy it from CEX. They have a weird policy whereby they buy things at a high price but sell them above market for 2nd hand goods. Prime example is they are selling the PSVR for €525, over €120 above RRP, but they buy in for 325, which is €75 shy of what they sold for. You'll probably get a switch from CEX a few days after launch, but unless you've been on the drugs I wouldn't buy one. Besides that - their returns policy is nonsense also. No matter what they will never give you a cash refund even if the device you bought was to explode in your kitchen. It's mental frankly.

And PS4 wasn't in short supply either, they were insanely popular and they ran out of supply. Day one the PS4 sold over 1 million units in just North America, that's half of Nintendo's entire allocation for day one. Sony knew it was popular but I don't think they were prepared for how popular.

I have never bought from CEX but some did as they were desperate for a PS4 and the shops had no stock because demand exceeded supply so I will disagree with you and call that a shortage. I remember there was almost no stock in argos and gamestop after the first batch. It was December 3rd 2013. That's when CEX's buying and selling price rocketed. And I remember how some people on boards were desperately looking for argos reservations night after night and one guy shared out his stock check app so people had a better chance of scoring from a store with expired reservations. A few unscrupulous types were selling reservations and PS4's on adverts too. Major gouging going on. Gamestop at the time were getting them in dribs and drabs too . Same with Smyths. And all preorders. Luckily there were also some people on boards who had just bought PS4's and sold them to other boardsies at face value to help them out.

My point is I hope the same situation doesn't happen with the Switch. After the initial batch sells I hope if the demand is there, so will the supply. I hope there isnt big time profiteering happenimg on adverts and the likes of CEX.

I can promise you that a significant number of preorders were made with the express purpose of telling at a profit immediately afterwards.
They consume available supply, creating a demand from genuine punters as those people can't avail of the total Irish allocation, and then the gougers jack up the price.

Cex still has a huge mark up on PS-VR and the NES Classic, ugh.
If you desperately want a Switch for launch day, I'd pre order right now. Gamestop in santry told me only yesterday they have a couple of launch day systems left for pre order and what not.

Pre ordered it on Gamestop, if im not in the 1st batch i dont mind waiting, would give me more time to save for it anyway.

I saw a post about Nintendo Switch Pro controller selling out in the US in minutes? Was that just down to the FCC regulations over there or are we likely to see that here?
I see it's still available on the official nintendo store. I put one on pre-order as I see that they're cheaper on the official site than on amazon and definitely it will be cheaper than Gamestop.

Notice that both the Nintendo store is out of stock for all the BOTW Amiibo .. I picked up 3 on the Amazon.co.uk site but actual zelda figure and link archer from BOTW series are out of stock. Not sure if people are bothered to pick these up but I'm still collecting (sadly)

Unless people want the Red-Blue version (which is sold out) you can still order console from the official Nintendo uk store. Shipping is free and using address pal the delivery shouldn't be too much (not sure if it would be within the standard €3.50 post but I expect it might be).

They're a very reliable site. I've never had a problem with them. They're one of the best sites around.

I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but if you can't find anything negative to say about them they must be fnarping amazing! :D

Do you know if they ship early so you get delivery on Release Day?

I've had stuff early from them. If a game comes out on Friday they shop on Tuesday or Wednesday ish, I tend to find.

I know it's been mentioned before but interesting to note that Nintendo's stock price hasn't recovered. I've highlighted the date of the Switch's reveal, you can pinpoint the massive drop to that exact moment.

I personally think the Switch is going to well, might be time to buy some Nintendo stock and make a quick buck off it (which will go straight back to Nintendo to buy games and accessories! :D )

It says on the Smyths website that they will be doing a midnight launch in their stores for the Switch.

Wonder will GameStop do the same.

Woohoo go smyths! I hope they do it for every store and not just select ones, looks like a sickie is on the horizon for 00:01am march 3rd :)

Ah... do I change my order from GameStop now?? My order is for Dundrum store and it's unlikely they'll open at midnight!
Are Smyth's still honouring pre-orders for Day 1 does anyone know??

It's only certain GameStops that do midnight launches anyway. Probably be the same with Symths.

the patrick street cork gamestop is likely going to do one but they said they wont have it confirmed til middle of next month.

Also should be noted that i've been told by a staff member that gamestop have changed their midnight launch policy. if they do one they no longer do money transactions on the night so they ask that people pay the game or console off prior to the night and then on the night you just go in give your gamestop card to be scanned and get handed your stuff which will already be ready in a bag behind the til for you to take if you have indicated that you will be at the midnight launch.

basically to streamline the night so as to not have their staff stuck there for too long. i had 300 on one for alls from my xmas bonus so have already paid off my switch after hearing this. will go back in prior to launch and pay off the remainder of LoZ:BotW Special edition.

I'm not a huge fan of midnight launches tbh but can see why people go to them.

I think I'll try get the 3rd off work and go to GameStop early and get it.

Pre ordered Zelda and the pro controller today for collection from the same store as well just incase they were to sell out.

62% Of Japanese Players Believe The Switch’s Price Is Too High

January’s Switch presentation received mixed reactions from many fans. It seems that sentiment was also felt in Japan. The best examples of this come from a poll conducted by Hachima, a Japanese video game blog. Translated by Source Gaming, it seems that Japanese players think the Switch’s price is too high. While only 19.74% said it was really high, another 42.74% said it was a little high. This probably isn’t a great sign, over 62% of those surveyed believing the console’s price was too much. Check out the other poll results here.

Q: What did you think about the price of the Nintendo Switch?

    I think it’s a little high: 42.47%
    I think it’s just right: 30.63%
    I think it’s really high: 19.74%
    I think it’s a little cheap: 4.72%
    I think it’s really cheap: 2.43%

The Japanese price is 29,980 Yen. We always have to pay so much more. That's <€245 when converted.

Does anyone know if you can plug the AC adapter provided with the switch into the screen and continue to play handheld mode while it charges the way you can with the gamepad on the Wii U or is the AC adapter only for the dock?

Yes, you can charge it on the go and keep playing using the AC.

Lovely! Thanks. AC adapter for E35 at GameStop was making me think it was a specially made one just for handheld mode. Happy it's included in the box.

I was reading an "article" on Nintendolife (that was more like a Hori catalogue) - they mentioned that you don't have clearance to plug the charging cable in when you have the Switch in "tabletop" mode with it's kick stand. Naturally, Hori have a solution for you, but just bear it in mind if planning to charge on the go.

    Hey, while I'm here :
Xenoblade Chronicles came out on the Wii, and was re-released on the 3DS
Xenoblade 2 is coming out on the Switch.
So what the hell is Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U? (other than too big and sprawling for Banjo to plough through, which I already figured out myself thankyou). Is it the same game the Switch is getting? Is it a spin-off of the first one?

X on the wiiu was a standalone game that has the xenoblade chronicles title in it following the success of the wii versions acclaim. Its rumoured to be being ported to the switch a la mariokart 8.

Xenoblade 2 switch has things the trailer that references xenoblade chronicles wii (red sword and big titan thing) but none of the original characters from it. Soo yeah it could be related or might just have the xenoblade chronicles title.

Em... A lot of this is really wrong. They go off the second hand market prices. eBay, adverts, things like that. The NES mini is a good example where they were actually paying people over what they bought them for and selling waaaaay under the asking price.

Using the PSVR as an example is the same boat. They were/are sold out everywhere, and until only recently they were also giving the above new price for them.
They are about €20 more than on adverts, where you get no warranty or assurances it isn't nicked/faulty etc

They are not working of new prices. They don't sell new products.

Thier refund policy is actually decent too. You get a two year warranty. Any fault within 30 days you get a refund back to method of payment any after that you get a replacement or repair. Pretty much like any other retailer, just with an extra year warranty.
