DFC Intelligence, a research firm I haven't heard of before, seems to think the Switch is destined for 40 million sales, which seems a tad overoptimistic.
Overoptimistic if the console is a home console.
But, as a 3DS replacement, it could well end up selling quite a bit.
    That said... it's pitched €100 more than a 3DS.... More than a launch 3DS...
    Bugger....
    All confused now...

It's 100 quid more than the 3DS or whatever now. I would put money on it being 280 or less by christmas.

    Saw this yesterday on N4G.
That company made a similar claim about the Wii U. Then they had to lower this estimate to 25 million Will Us (not sure what the original estimate was). We both know how wrong they were on that unfortunately

Saved me some energy typing out the same response.

It's not clear from any other site if, when you buy a matched set of Joy cons if they come with the bit to connect them.
We'll get a clearer look at the packaging soon I guess.

Even if you look at the packaging and photos on Gamestop, there is no indication of the grip being included with the Joy-cons.

Polygon say "according to a Nintendo representative, the battery life of the Joy-Con Controllers is about 20 hours. Each of the Joy-Con controllers can be charged by inserting them in the Joy-Con Charging Grip (sold separately) or by leaving them attached to the docked Switch."

Of course the Switch comes with its own Grip, but if you want the four Joy-Cons to convert to two "traditional-type" controllers, I'm 99% certain that you'll need an additional grip.

On various sites and videos I've seen they say it does come with grips but just the standard ones. You've to buy the "charging" grips separately.

And if you buy a second set of Joy-cons I think you've to buy charging grips separately as well. So it's €90 plus €30. I'm not 100%, I'll have to double check that.

Oh, ok. I'd be happy enough if that was the case.

I wouldn't see an urgent need for a charging grip for myself. I could cancel that bit of my preorder and get a pro controller instead. Or Bomberman/Binding Issac.

The good thing with it being technically a portable, is that Nintendo are always willing to iterate on their portables during their lifetime. The GBA didn't really take off in the main-stream until the GBA SP came along, same with the DS and DS Lite. I don't doubt that a revision of the Switch would be a big deal for Nintendo.

And the potential of having 20 years back catalog of games available on a portable device would be a great seller depending on how the VC is implemented

The VC is amazing to me they have a huge quality filled back catalogue of games as many have said but make such a mess of using it. Even their sales compared to other systems are dreadful. I have a 3DS & far too often it's the same crap appearing in sales. Compare their Christmas sale to Xbox & Playstation it was absolutely laughable never mind Steam. I'd gladly buy Game Boy Advance games again but they didn't bother selling any on the eShop.
Kinda shows that they have been out of their comfort zone when it comes to an online integration.

Sadly, I can't play it like that while driving the car...
    But it is cool.
It's bringing home console standards to on the go play.

CAPCOM HAS “NO PLANS” FOR BRINGING RESIDENT EVIL TO THE NINTENDO SWITCH

That's fine. I have a PS4 and an Xbox One if I want to play those big multi-sequel third party franchises. Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed and the like are not why I'm buying a Switch. What I'm hoping to see from Capcom are games that take advantage and are geared towards the Switch. That and Monster Hunter.

Based on past Nintendo logic (which consists of a conference with some conservative, yet easily amused platypuses), it's then worth buying it on launch for the uber-nifty ambassador program they roll out when they inevitably lower the price (it'll be GCN games they never give a proper release to elsewhere, of course).

I do understand the criticism, but I'm already sold on the Switch. If the first party gear wasn't gonna do it, then the Binding of Isaac (my favorite game ever, I add for the 1000th time) getting its first, proper physical console release sealed the deal. Look forward to doing some Isaac co-op on the go.

    Indeed. Really disappointing.

It's only disappointing if you've no other way to play Resi VII.
Also a pity, because the Resi Revelations title on 3DS rescued the series from certain doom.
Prior to that the franchise was in decline.

Anyone got any idea of what the trade in value of a new 3DS XL is in GameStop? Don't really want to part with it, especially with the new fire emblem titles announced this week, but can't justify keeping it and getting a switch. I can't wait for the switch despite all the disappointment surrounding the launch presentation. I'm a huge fan of handhelds and although this is being marketed as a home console I see this as the next generation of gaming on the go. I never had a Wii U so can't wait to enjoy any of the games they might rerelease, MK8 being top of that list.

Feck all seeing as they're giving €60 if you trade in your Wii U. CEX will give you €130 cash though and you could always sell it on adverts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Aokay

You'll get around €150 for it on adverts.

According to GameStop.ie you get 90 to trade against the switch

I have no other way to play new Resident Evil games. Loved all the Resident Evil games that came to Nintendo console platforms, own and played every single one of them. 4 being the best, followed by 2. Capcom haven't been good to Nintendo console owners. And yes, I agree it was $h1tty of them to skip Nintendo platforms for Revelations 2. There wouldn't have been a sequel if it weren't for Nintendo fans. We haven't had a proper Street Fighter game on a Nintendo console since the SNES. What have they got for us? A lazy port of an XBOX360 Live game? Ya thanks! So I'm still waiting on a proper SF game. It's $40 when it was only $15 back then.

Bar Revelations there hasn't been a good Resi since 4 imo except the hd remake of 1 if a remake of a remake counts. Street Fighter & Dead Rising have been handled very poorly the last few years also. As long as we get an Ace Attorney I'll be happy.
I never expected 7 on the Switch. I genuinely don't think the Switch can run it....or anything graphically excessive. Listening to gamexplain & they already highlighted their concerns for 3rd party support.

You've probably already considered this but you'll be saying goodbye to a big library of great games and paying €400 for the privilege.

Unless you like your gadgets and have the money burning a hole in your pocket, the Switch doesn't make any sense until at least 2018.

    Virtual Boy games?

    Virtual Boy games?

Think he has a flash cart for that. If not then probably most of the games worth owning for it. :)

I used to have one, but I realised that, yes, I had most things worth playing on the VB, so I flogged it, as it was made in limited numbers and the value had gone up.
Galactic Pinball and Mario Tennis are fantastic, still wonder why they never released them on the 3DS, would've been perfect.

I am hoping to spend my Nintendo money on the Megaman/Rockman games for the Famicom.
I have Megaman 2 for the NES, a compilation on the PS2 and another collection on one of my home consoles, but it'd be lovely to have the Famicom originals, around €100 will buy the set.

Gamestop website indicates it is only select third party accesories that get 20% off at launch. Boo.

Wouldn't take much notice of the Capcom 'No plans at this time for Resident Evil'. If Switch does well they will port other versions like they always do, Capcom have taken a fair hit financially too in the last while with the SF5 debacle, so they'll be extra slow to put new games on any new system for a while. They are also going to stay schtum pretty much with it being released soon on the other platforms.

While I'm disappointed Resident EVII_ (I know...) won't be available n the switch, (at least in the immediate future) I'm still looking forward to playing it. Played the demo/taster game on my PC, and although it's gone first person, it has the atmosphere nailed perfectly. Still think the REmake is better than 4 though Sligeach!

Perhaps the RE2 remake will come out on the switch, given it'd be similar to the REmake.
