We're not debating anyone's health, we're pointing out how some people are credulous enough to believe unsubstantiated guff that supports their biases and the possibility that said guff originated in Russia as an attempt to further a specific candidates chances.

Some of us think it's possible, some of us are convinced that couldn't happen. Whether or not they're the same ones who were convinced that Russia weren't behind the hacks until L. Don Trumpard issued an edict to say they were is more research than I can be bothered to do.

Some of them still aren't convinced.

But ah, gotcha. I should have read back, but I assumed it was just doing the same as this morning so I skipped it.

I think there was a fair bit of exaggeration, a fair bit of seeing what people wanted to see, and a fair bit of not seeing what people didn't want to see. Likely on both sides; I am biased towards the not-Trump side, but I also think that, while acknowledging said bias, there is a hell of a lot more bull**** coming from Trump and his ilk.

Clinton caught flu. It's a nasty dose, but it can happen to anyone, even if they're not on a busy schedule. Trump was a lot more quiet about his own sniffles a few days later. There is no reason, including her actual medical records, to indicate she's not as healthy as anyone else her age. Sheesh, now I remember the insane "doctor's note".

    >.<

These are strange times we live in.

Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) is a group of former officers of the United States Intelligence Community. It was formed in January 2003 as a "coast-to-coast enterprise" to protest the use of faulty intelligence "upon which the US/UK invasion of Iraq was based." The group issued a letter before the 2003 invasion of Iraq stating that intelligence analysts were not being listened to by policy makers. Initially the group numbered 25, mostly retired analysts.

Is Trump beholden to Putin? Tax return release would ease concerns about his ties to Russia. A little less public fawning over Putin would help. Hard to say if he's kidding - he seems way too vain for that. And equating Merkel to Putin... wow.

Whether Trump'll be found out to be in Putin's debt remains to be seen. Definitely looking forward to the investigations.

Huh. I feel like I've travelled back in time six months. Don't suppose we could get back to the present before we hit the future?

Good point, forgot about the mod warning in the OP. Apologies! :o

Obama going out with a bit of a bang by commuting the prison sentence of Chelsea Manning. Wonder if he has any more lined up...

I'd say the only person that will be triggered is Donald. Expect a rant on Twitter about something that upset him.

The context of the video for me, was not so much about Clinton but more of CNN's antics of pushing a certain agenda and overall dishonesty.

Since he's still technically the Chief, Obama just commuted Chelsea Mannings sentence.

Everyday I check the news when I wake up to see if maybe today is the day Trump doesn't say/do something stupid.

    It wasn't today.

Does that mean Assange is going to hand himself over?

Probably not, unless he wants to hand himself over voluntarily

I hope Assange doesn't hand himself over like he said less than a week ago.. 10 years of good work ruined because the moral high ground feel like they got attacked by him. It would a waste of life to give himself to America to spend his life behind bars.

I like the point of Wikileaks but Assange is a tit. The guardian refused to work with them on stuff because Assange refused to redact information which could lead to loss of life. Wikileaks without Assange could be a better organisation.

I definitely agree with him hindering their work. Still don't want him in prison though.

And, let the assault on liberty commence:

What's the over/under at the end of Trump's administration (assuming he lasts, say, 4 years) of how many sentences he'll commute? Obama's set the record for a president: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/barack-obama-sentence-commutation_us_587e8e68e4b01cdc64c84b85?qfpkqpvi

Frankly, I don't agree with them all, Oscar Rivera and the FALN were a terrorist organization full of murderers. Growing up in NYC I heard plenty about the FALN - lived in a poor neighborhood where the hispanic minority was majority Puerto Ricans, and my neighbors and friends certainly had no use for the FALN either. Fraunces Tavern was close to where my parents worked, and the b*stards blew it up and killed 4 people. Hopefully Rivera gets his.

Ever get the feeling there will be lots of humble pie ate when Trump falls from grace.

Or else no wait it will be the media or lefty snowflake liberals or some other derogatory term for ordinary decent workers who are blamed when he does fall.

There is no other outcome except for the entertainment of it all.

Would anyone truly miss CNN? Vile stuff

Vile stuff because a black man said "negroes"?

Wait til those Trump apprentice tapes come out!

(as to why Hill would say that, it is obvious that Trump is rounding up a few token black people (a brain surgeon and a comedian!) and putting them in charge of "urban issues" i.e. black stuff, because he is a flaming racist and so are his fans and this kind of tokenism plays with racists, and annoys people like Hill.)

They might well come out if they exist and he'll be slaughtered, and rightly so.

Dunno I just take the stance there must be a reason why many urban areas like Chicago in the states have continuously gotten worse over time. IMO one of the problems is the constant race baiting on networks like CNN ( above one example of identity politics ), and the biggest reason obviously is the people elected in those areas to govern.

I know this has been oddly controversial, but I'm pretty pro steps being taken to reduce the amount of fake news on the internet. It's the equivalent of spam, only more dangerous. And I think the majority have well-shown that they are incapable of not falling for it.

Where the issue is is if governments start controlling -all news-, and one obvious way to do it is to specify that X, Y, and Z are official organisations to disseminate news and anything else is lying, that's a bad way to do it. Unfortunately, it's probably also the most obvious.

Government fact-checking pages would be another idea, but again, it's a) too easily abused and b) a lot of people will disbelieve it because of the source.

There's always been fake news of course, but until now, it's never been so big and so accessible as to be as dangerous as it has proven. It makes it incredibly easy for - for example - foreign powers who understand propaganda far better than most Western governments* to interfere with other countries.

Meeh, it was inevitable at some point that people would figure out again that this is the best way to poison a democracy and the internet makes an old method extremely effective. The media needs some criticising and this may be the kick up the arse needed, but it can't be kept up if people want to remain living in democratic societies.

*Before anyone freaks out at that! :P Example - Ireland. Treaty of Nice, Treaty of Lisbon, same-sex marriage referendum and divorce referendums. In every case, the No side was saying whatever the hell they liked (Hello Divorce, Bye-Bye Daddy, "forced abortions" (I think that was Lisbon) and a lot of nonsense about surrogacy for gay people) and the government were reacting with "uhm, what, that isn't..." in a rather weak fashion.

CNN are notorious race baiters from the times I'd have the displeasure of watching it. Many of the panel arguments dissolve into black people this, white people that. Now you can say otherwise, but I can't agree at all. They employ people like this Woman and others with the same ideologies - not people who I would consider intellectually smart, but rather quite racist and loud. It is a very race dividing news outlet.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xC-TJXoWXs

On the topic of the Trump N word tape, it the story is true it's meant to air 3pm today (wed) NA time so 8/9 Gmt I guess. Very high likelihood the story is false and nothings gonna happen but who knows.

One good thing that's come out of it is that the well known media outlets now need to be very very careful in what they post, one slip up like we seen in Washington post with the Russian grid hacking story and they get slaughtered.

I guess one question that's worth asking is, who fact checks the fact checkers?
