This is gas, it's not Nintendo's fault that they fail to meet demand, but journalists fault for pointing it out?

I never said it was the journalists fault for pointing it out. It's journalists thinking that there's some simple fix for these supply issues and not taking into account the multiple factors that lead to it. Nintendo isn't withholding stock to make artificial supply issues, they are playing it safe with the market and every so often it leads to supply issues. There's a number of economic factors that are the cause but so called journalists just think it's as simple as make more product. It's never that simple. Does the supply issue sometimes benefit Nitendo? Probably, but it's not planned. The lack of warehouse space just means that if it's not a sure thing, especially with hardware Nintendo has to be extra careful especially after they got burned really badly after the WiiU launch over this.

And if you think what I'm saying is nonsense well some USgamer contributors actually looked into this and did some journalism and that that's where the information is coming from.

Eh, when was the last time you couldn't get an EA or Ubisoft game?

True but on the flip side most Ubisoft and EA games have about a month where they sell at full price. After that the price bottoms out (I paid 7 euro for mass effect 2 less than 5 months after release) as they try to unload stock from the warehouse space they are renting.

Ever notice that Nintendo games have very long shelf lives and don't drop in price? (outside of massive flops like Metroid Other M). Nintendo are just playing the same game differently and it ends up being far more profitable for them in the long term.

I don't know but I'm taking the word of the person that looked into it, saw that previous Nintendo shortages where due to the same reason and from sources inside Nintendo America. It also fits the profile of other companies that had product shortages with the same supply set up as Nintendo.

Where is this article? The only one I can see from USGamer is this one, which has literally no sources in it and is basically just the journalist opinion, and therefore is just as valid as the other journalists you mention.

I think I might cancel my preorder and pick it up when Mario bundle with the switch .There Notting really at launch other than zelda but can wait for that game might be cheaper come Autumn.

I think they will never want their mainline pokemon series on the home consoles. Its pretty much a selling point for their handhelds. They could disrupt their own system. Only spin offs i'd guess. Like pokemon 64 and snap and other random ones.

This is where I'm hoping and praying that they wake up and do the right thing. Make the Switch their one and only focus and see how it becomes a phenomenon.

If their plan is to combine both markets and pretty much dominate it as they have done but with more powerful hardware and a bigger install base with the main selling point being "hey, you can very simply dock this and play in higher Res on your TV when not out and about" then I see the switch being an amazing platform and a huge seller. Otherwise who knows.

People who like Nintendo exclusives will buy it anyway, that market is cornered because obviously if you want to play the newest Nintendo games, you need the newest hardware.

The PS4/XBO choice really is down to what exclusives you rather and which console your friends list is on, that choice has already been made by pretty much anyone who is going to make it. Nintendo most definitely are not looking to compete with the home consoles like PS4pro and Scorpio, they are more competing with whether little Jimmy gets an iPad mini for Christmas or a Switch

I don't think Nintendo plan on taking part in a console war it can't win and a handheld market now blurred with tablets and smartphones. I think they are smart enough to carve out their own spot and thrive in it.

Agh I dunno, IF anyone ever contends the handheld space sure Ninty can back up and fully enter home consoles...but...they really do dominate handheld market, not something you should risk imo. Not until its necessary. Like take a look at pokemon and mario games etc, they're development costs are low compared to console games but they sell like hotcakes. Why risk that for a console market when its not needed? It'd be great for us i'm sure the ultimate pokemon game will come at some point in the future but for ninty its just unnecessary right now.

Sure ninty have to watch out for smartphones and all but...its terms of quality there is no real comparion between Ipads and a 3ds etc.

It's Nintendo's diving into the smartphone world which has me thinking this is their plan.

Phase out the 3DS, Murder the Wii U.
Release games for iOS/android like Mario run/Pokémon go. Release the Switch as the all in one Nintendo console. Shift development to these two markets.

You are right though. They have no reason to ruin a good thing. Maybe they feel without a home console they can't have a platform for games like Breath of the Wild. I dunno. Exciting times though.

Development costs for consoles can be worked around. Look at Windwaker HD for the Wii U. It's glorious looking but because of it's art direction. Pokémon on Switch I imagine being similar, a cell shaded glorious upscale of what we know, my worst nightmare is realistic Pokémon in Unreal 4 ha ha

I think the X2 would have had a higher power draw, which would require more powerful cooling and drain battery more, so it's a balancing act, with a custom X chip.

The tegra P1's main differential from the x1 is actually the lower power draw and lower heat generation. Everything else is very similar between the two tegra chips.

It wasn't an article. They were saying the same thing as other journalists in an article and a contributor corrected them about it in the comments. They looked into it and it was discussed on one of the podcasts.

Edit: can't find where it is and Agdq super metroid run is about to start but here's two less hyperbolic takes on it

Go to sleep or there will be no such thing as Switchmas and Switchman will bring you a PS4 with two move sticks on March 3rd.

Day 2 of the Switch presentation is on at the moment. They're showing Dragon Quest right now. There's so much talking in general throughout the show. And lots of lag.

    Which reminds me
Switch is getting the Dark Souls trilogy too, as are the other consoles, but still.

If Nintendo wanted this to sell like the nes mini they should of included a **** load of free nes and snes games for free with it. I wonder how much money they are making from virtual console games? Surely its pittence compared to the appeal of 100 free snes games on the switch that would sell millions of consoles by itself?
You really have to wonder who makes the decisions in Japan.
The paid online with a loan of a nes/snes game is very underwhelming at the moment. Why cant they see sence?

So via loudspeaker on the phone? Or do i wrap the phone to my head with elastic bands?
I just ordered a pack of elastic bands, thanks for the tip;-)
I dont know how serious your question was but the obvious answer is a headset plugged into the phone? Seems like a very silly way to do it though. Does this mean the switch bluetooths to your phone?

It was very serious but your headset plugged into the phone makes sense. Unfortunately, I ordered elastic bands in bulk in grey, red and blue.
Thought i could make a bundle selling them as a switch accessory.
The only up side is, I've no warehouse space, so I'm limited to only 20 packets per county.

    Lol.
Oh I didn't think of different colours can I preorder a pack of red and blue!
Thank god I got that order in looks like a shortage is on the way.

Nah, people are mostly miffed at 5 launch games with very little on the horizon other than newer versions of stuff that can be had on the Wii U.

Yeah. I'm gonna hold off getting one. I really thought Nintendo might be doing things a little differently this time around but, nah. Maybe next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭iamtony

    Right I'm done complaining.

SNES games multiplayer online sound awesome. As much as I love playing my SNES Mario Kart and Street fighter I find the family totally lacking in the skill to make it interesting for any of us. In fareness I am God like at the two mentioned games.
So let's draw a line under this post and let's talk about the positives.
So...what are you most looking forward to?

Same. I'll look again summer 2018 to see if it's worth getting. The only game in that launch lineup that interests me is Zelda and I'll get that on the Wii-U.

    Nintendo developing games for Playstation/PC.

Diddy Kong Racing online would be great. GoldenEye also.
