Between 2.5 and 6 hours. Not too far away from the Vita or 3DS. Jesus christ, some people want to see the worst

Vita is over 5 years old, 3DS almost 7.

New 3DS came out less than 2 years ago, same behaviour. Vita is slightly less than 5 years old.

If you preorder online with Gamestop, can you pick the store to collect it from?

I've not played a hand held since the DS . And I got 12 hours out of it easily or at least it felt like that .

We can get anal about it, the Vita was released December 2011, and the 3DS version wasn't specified. Either way, I understand the point he's making, as do I the arguments made against his points.

    You can indeed.

Sleep mode obviously extends the life. I get an entire day out of my 3DS easily, cos I'm not playing it for 24 hours a day, I just play it on and off. It also charges (the switch) via USB C which is nice and easy.

If Apple released a switch compatible iPad the internet would break. (Maybe)
Oh I agree, they are different beasts performing different functions. But I think the price point is just too high especially as you will more than likely want to install a microSD card if you intend on downloading many games. I think the machine looks great, the games look great. I want one but what will cause it the biggest harm is the price point. They really REALLY need to get a strong install base VERY quickly and that's already going to be difficult given the fact there are two more powerful consoles already in place for over 1 year for cheaper and the mobile market (Especially for adults) is predominantly on mobile phones.

They're very much pushing it as a home console which happens to have pick up and go features. It's not being sold as a portable gaming system and isn't a replacement for the 3DS.

Yep. You just pick your local shop on the map. There's a bunch of delivery options too.

Apologies about the troll thing there.
I had a look at previous posts and I was wondering why you'd go from fan to not so fan in such a short space of time!
    But, not to worry

The Ds had a fantastic Battry but the my new 3ds is shocking bad I think get less then 3 hours on pokemon moon. And nearly have to have it plugged in all the time same as the Wii u pad.

Same as the Ps4 pad that barely lasts 6 hours

The other thing that's left me surprised and disappointed is the fact that they're not bringing over Wii U titles. It would be an easy solution for them to improve on a very slim software line-up and the Wii U sold so poorly that the majority of people, myself included, never had one.

I'd love to play Bayonetta 2, Mario World 3D, Smash Bros, Xenoblade Chronicles and especially the Wii U version of Wind Waker.

I think they are bringing over Wii U ports. Nintendo are still the worst at communicating things, I think.

The reasons for not buying a Nintendo console, that is "I want to play Doom and I want to play GTAV and I can't get them on a WiiU" are precisely why people buy a Nintendo "I want to play Super Mario 3D World and I want to play Legend of Zelda and I can't play them on anything other than a WiiU"
Alternatively, the same can be said for plumbing for a PS4, to play Bloodborne or to buy an XboxOne, to play.... Ehhhh, no wait.... I'll think of something....
The only way to play the best that's out there is to have a PS4, a Nintendo home console and a 3DS.
You can own more if you like, and by the gods have I, but those are the prerequisites for a good, varied gaming diet.

And 32gb don't sound like much, but it all depends on the size of the games.

The higher end will be for VC games I would think. If people semi-regularly run games that use it up in 2.5 hours the 2.5 hours will go down pretty quickly too.

I'd love to see a HD remaster of Super Mario Sunshine, so good and needs to be played by everyone.

All of which were still better from a Wii U owner's perspective on this.

WiiU had a pretty fantastic launch line up especially compared to the PS2, 3 and 4. It was what followed after or the lack there of which was the problem.

New games are what is going to sell this console though. I still need to see more to convince me it won't go the way of the WiiU.

In terms of the battery life, if you are going on a long trip or flight people tend to bring a battery pack with them anyway for there phones or tablets. I have a 10,000mAh battery that I picked up for around 20 quid. Pressuming the battery in the switch is around 5000mAh, you can extend screen on time for Zelda to 9hrs.

Obviously this isn't an ideal solution but the battery life will be fine if it's managed right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Keep the wireless off, brightness reasonable, whatever. I can only speak for myself, but I don't play portable games in very long bursts as a rule, maybe half an hour bursts or so.

Lot of flights have USB connections on em. The coach I was on the other day had USB in fact.

Not that I'm saying I wouldn't like a better battery life. Just that its not the switch is terrible drawback people seem to want to perceive it as.

Was a gamer in a former life and I thought will the portable aspect it would be great for flights and buses but 2.5 hours is pathetic . It would be dead before I've boarded the flight!

It's USB C (thankfully) so packing a power bank would surely work?

I have to say, that on the go I hardly get more than an hour to play.
    At home it's hours.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the power supply looks like. Edit: USB C! I can use my Nexus charger!
Pop it in the man bag and plug in when required.
Everyone should own a 3DS, regardless of model.
Those things have the best games library since the PS2, just amazing.

Flying out on Monday for a wee break, if only I could have Skyrim/Switch on the plane... :)

Just don't have a VC rerelease of Pilot wings, or some tin foil hat wearing numpty will think you are going to try to crash the plane!

If you are on a long distance flight you can just plug it into the plug sockets under the seat.

Mario looks ok, nothing else stood out apart from ARMS which looks like garbage.

Did we see a different game? Arms looks cool!

PS4 slim 1TB with Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky and Bloodbourne for 350. Xbox1 500GB with Battlefield 1 300. Less than Switch with no game and 128GB MicroSD card

3 year old consoles that were €400 at launch without anything close to Zelda standard games, hardly a fair comparison.

Disappointed with the price, was hoping it would max at 300.

Joy-Cons are very cool and an incredible device if they're accurate to what Ninty say they can do but they are very gimmicky, and the gimmicks are whats making them expensive.

Doubt we'll see any Pokémon mentions until at least this Summer, Sun and Moon are only 2 months out, don't know how people were expecting to see another new game.

Overall I'm impressed with the console, launch lineup isn't fantastic so far but Zelda will give a few weeks at least hopefully, with Master Quest to double that, and we'll have Mario Kart by June, just two months after launch.

Is there a source for the rumours that skyrim will launch for 60 odd quid?

    Scalebound? :)

Watched the presentation this morning. Good to see Karen got to try a new game with friends. Mario was confusing until they said he was transported to the real world, which is confusing since I thought he was Italian, or maybe Brooklyn. Looks crazy in a good way.

I do think they could've showed more, but they probably tried to reach out to different people to present and that's what they got. Wonder if the version of FIFA they're on about will be 17 or 18? Releasing 17 in March or April and 18 before the end of year would be overkill and reduce sales which would again lead EA to question releasing on the system.

Preorder Wii U version of Zelda. Not a fan of Zelda's voice. Maybe will change later but sounds too girly or something for someone who's meant to be a pretty tough character.

Well, Nintendo logic, history, the fact 1-2 Switch minigame compliation is retailing for 50 beans.
