As referred to by Cosmic in a post deleted, a lot of people on certain retrogaming facebook groups seem to think they are king of the retrogamers now that they can populate a Nes Classic Mini with fresh content... hooray roms.... deary deary me...

Regarding the "recall" of the N3DS, could this be prep ahead of the Switches release?
A new, more powerful portable Nintendo on the scene so, why persist in the N3DS?
I mean, we know why, it's a cracking machine and, thankyou Retr0 (who ever thought anyone would say that!) for pointing out that the larger XL screens just show up the shortcomings in the 3DS tech, particularly in modern non-sprite based games. Often they look like pixelated messes on the XL, but look just fine on the typical 3DS

I know no better than my 3DS XL and don't really see a difference in watching others playing the normal size 3DS, maybe because I don't see that well in the first place :pac:.
I'd like to pick up a NTSC N3DS though for US games, we'll see how it goes with limited supply, I'm not too worried about it, my backlog is long enough.

Well the us never got the small 3ds so I'd say it was a temporary release in Europe.

I deleted that because on reading it back I thought I was being at bit harsh with my description of them. It was more about the people that feel the need to have every system, with every game available for that system. The NES hack is interesting, I was surprised that it came so soon after its release. If Nintendo ever get around to doing a SNES version of it I don't they'll make the same mistake twice. I do agree with you as far as adding ROMs to it. Some people on other sites are losing their mind over it.

There's still some stock of the new 3DS (regular one, not XL) in Walmart here if anyone wants an NTSC one!

I don't really understand why people are going so mental about it...

I mean... the Raspberry Pi is cheaper and you can emulate ANY system on it that you like up to the N64 so...

I mean yeah. One is an embedded Linux system running a fairly restricted OS... the other is an embedded Linux system that you can do whatever the hell you want with... for cheaper.

    People are stupid, basically.

When you've been around emulation for two decades plus, you tend to see the sensationalism around the Nintendo Mini Classic with a little perspective.
It's a bit like a friend delightedly telling you about their infant child finding their toes for the first time, but you've seen it before and heard it before and fail really to see what on earth people are getting so excited about.
It is cool, don't get me wrong, that the Nintendo can have new games installed, not sure it's quite this thrilling though.

At this rate, you'd have thought Nintendo missed a trick making the Switch in the first place, they should have just made nostalgia triggers like the Nintendo Mini Classic, made a fortune.
Never innovate again mind you, but sure the great unwashed don't seem particularly interested in Nintendo bringing new things to market, they just want ways to play things it seems that were sold in the company's history.
    Which is a great pity.
They really have a risk now that they'll occupy the space that Sega now occupy.
And people are applauding the whole way.

I was very late to the XL game, only getting one when the new 3DS came out with Xenoblade. So have been using a standard release 3DS for years.

Can't go back to the smaller one now mainly out of comfort. The bigger console is so much nicer to hold. End up with claw hand now when I try and use the standard sized one.

Still, would absolutely love a Super Famicom one!

I'm the same, couldn't play a normal one now because of the 'claw' cramp effect. XL all the way, despite the bit of added aliasing, I think the trade off is more than worth it.

Journey of the Cursed King is out on the 3DS soon isn't it? Never finished it on the PS2 so might pick it up.

It's like the Saturn 3D controller vs the normal one again. I find the XL more comfortable too.

January 20th I think? I just saw a trailer in my news feed and watched it. Definitely hoping to get it

I really loved that game. Can't wait to play it again and this time take on the secret dragons.

The ending of the game was so good. I nearly wet myself laughing at it.

Best play it safe when you pick up the 3ds version then.

    Is Sparks about??....
    .
    ..
    ...

    No?

    Okay....

I've been in possession of the most excellent Atari 65XE for a few months now, and very lovely it is too.
But my heart is broken with the lack of one single game, and that is....

    Boulderdash

    Ssshhh!
    Don't say it out loud!
    He'll hear you ffs!!

Anyway that game is one of those from my childhood, I recall queuing to play it in Butlins/Mosney back in the 80's, where they had an Atari Centre, filled with these computers and many running
    Boulder Dash
, the CoD4 of it's day, a game everyone wanted to have at home and play.

Problem now, at this remove, is the game is incredibly expensive, €250 kinda money

And so my dreams appeared dashed :(

Until I found this very old website
    http://members.tcq.net/video61/compnew.html
Now, this site reminded me of little more than the webring type sites of the late 90's, and I didn't fancy my chances at all tbh, but I emailed the guy anyways.
    And
    Got an answer this morning!

Yup, he was still in the business, says they still ship to Europe all the time.
He also says they have the licence to produce First Star Software, and reproduce and publish their 8bit Atari lineup.

Boulder Dash, for my Atari XE is costing me about €20 with the same again for shipping, from the US to here.

    Happy with that!

Here's hoping it is shipped before Trump closes the borders!

I must be the only person on earth excited about the Wii U release of Breath of the Wild in March. :D

I'll be getting a switch at launch but that presentation has me worried about its long term prospects and the price is pretty much pricing it out of competition with its competitors.

I didn't even now it was coming to U, great stuff, I only got mine in October and was thinking this morning had I anything else to be excited for coming out for it.
Haven't watch the Switch video yet, I'm still engrossed in Games Done Quick

Felt bad for whoever was streaming last night. Was the first time all week I've seen ADGQ knocked off the number 1 spot on Twitch.

    Oh yeah? What beat it?
I thought the mystery race was really cool and Sonic R was on in the evening, what could possibly be better?
Thought Kirby and Zelda would have good pull.

Oh the Nintendo stream knocked it down.

Think they were running the 1000 Year Door at the time though.

That will be the one to have in the future. Try buying Twilight Princess on the GameCube now.

In fairness the competition is a few years old now and was far more expensive at launch. I haven't seen much innovation from Microsoft or Sony, they're just trying to dazzle everybody with 4k and VR headsets now. It will be interesting to see how things develop after the release of the Switch.

It's still a lower specced piece of hardware competing with a higher spec, cheaper competitor with a catalogue built up over the last 3 years. Nintendo really need to push the unique nature of the hardware and software and I'm not seeing it. I'm worried it will be another WiiU.

I haven't switched my Wii U on since finishing Windwaker HD, which is almost two years ago

Just looking at games for it now on ebay and you can get quite a lot for 20 and under. Think it's time I started building up a bit of a library for it.

Must pick up two copies so :D

Tbf I've barely turned it on too, I dunno why I don't just get rid of it all and just keep my 3DS it's all I use regularly.
When I play Mirage Sessions I'll get loads of play. Yeah the games when I got then the dearest was Mirage for 35, the rest was around 20. Need Wind Waker and the other select games.

I can understand your concern but for me Nintendo could be seen to be lagging behind in terms of graphical processing power since the release of the N64 in my eyes. In the right hands the GameCube could churn out some wonderful looking games, the marketing of its competitors and lack of third party support let it down in my opinion. The Wii controllers were laughed at by some people when they were announced, Sony and Microsoft went on to release their own movement based controllers and the laughing stopped. I'm hoping you're going to be wrong about it being another Wii U but I see where you're coming from. They do need something special that nobody else is offering to gain a foothold in the market.

I really want it to do well because even when Nintendo has a bad hardware launch they just make wonderful games. I think the Switch really needs to grab the Japanese market to have a chance. If it gets Japanese support and becomes the 3DS successor there I can see that filtering over to the West like what happened with the 3DS after a failure of a launch. They're going to get no western developer support and gamer culture as it is at the moment has turned toxic and is venting a lot of undeserved ire towards Nintendo making it a hard sell to people in the fanboy culture that Sony and MS are building.
