My god it was unbearable at times to watch! Tactical I suppose is one way of summoning it up! I counted DLS with 8 defenders for most of the game and BCS with 7! Is this what our game is turning into? It was a free ridden farce! BCS were
probably the better team but couldn't put DLS away. Iarlaith Daly was very good as was Tom Barron from placed balls for them. There was only one team in it in extra time and credit to DLS for sticking to their task in ordinary time and for moving up a gear in extra time. Douglas and Ruddle(from placed balls) were good for them but the lack of team sheets at the gate was a big disappointment. DLS sent up so many and they were given out on a first come first served basis but there was no team sheets supplied by BCS. So many neutrals at the game left so disappointed as the quality of players on both sides never got a chance to hurl as at times it was more like rugby with rucks everywhere. For God's sake these are young kids that are being strangled with these negative tactics and it is shameful. A father of a current senior panelist said as much today while watching it and pointed out at both managers as being the fault of it and their predecessors before them.

Ye i headed off early cause i was bored to be honest. Agree the lads in the midfield were good for blackwater. Was it dalton for them at full forward with 3 or 4 lads around him at all times. Would have been nice to see some more adventure considering it was a good day for it.

Yes I think he is Dalton from Modeligo. It was obvious from the start DLS had their homework done on him because as you said they crowded him out at all opportunities. But it was so disappointing because it could have been a real spectacle but in DLS's case the end justifies the means but really at what cost? And to be honest BCS were no better as they swamped the middle area of the pitch aswell making it impossible to make progress.

Best of luck to ballyduff lower who play mayfield of cork in the Munster junior hurling club final 2morrow. Be great if they won and once again Waterford will be home to the Munster club intermediate and junior hurling champions

Any future inter county stars on the ballyduff team ???

Jamie Barron, Shane Bennett, Stephen Bennett, Noel Connors, Barry Coughlan, Shane Fives, Austin Gleeson and Pauric Mahony all got on the Munster hurling panel for the railway cup

Patrick Hurney, Tomás O’Gorman and Paul Whyte got on the football panel

Ballyduff 5 behind at HT. 2-10 to 1-8

Listening to the match on the radio and ballyduff seem to have gone dirty in the second half.

An article in the independent said that Wexford are due to play Waterford twice over the coming weeks. Does anyone know where and when these games are?

Commiserations to Ballyduf Lower, that was a very good Mayfield team to be fair. They won their previous 2 games by a combined total of 60 points. Ballyduff pushing them all the way is no mean feat. They could be strong contenders for intermediate next year. Some good young hurlers coming through in the club.

Were Ballyduff not senior very recently? Or is there a second Ballyduff apart from 'Lower'?

You're thinking of Ballyduff Upper, other side of the county

I herd today from a local here in town. That tjey played the other night. The team was Mostly made up from the extended panel. Waterford got the win. Not sure of the score. Some of the younger U21s got a run. Davy was at his usual antics on the sideline once again

Ballyduff Lower were senior up until recently enough, got to a couple of county semi finals in the early/mid noughties. Lost a lot of players through emigration, then some players left to join city clubs eg Jack kennedy and John O'Leary and ended up back in the junior ranks. Seem to be after getting those lads back and sorting themselves out now

Good to see Ballyduff Lower some way sorted out and back winning. They were a right mess a few years ago, failing to fulfill senior championship games is desperate for any club. Didnt they go straight from senior to intermediate to junior in successive seasons? Good to see they have got their act together again.

They were down intermediate for 2 or 3 years I think before they regraded junior but, but they really did sink like a stone. Some good young players coming through seems to have helped their cause aswell. Had a couple of co minors last year. Calum Lyons looks a good prospect.

Could it be possible we will play Tipp in the new PUC on June 18th 2017 in the Munster championship if they win the QF or will they play it in Limerick again. The venue is TBC if wat vs tipp, if it's Wat vs cork it's Thurles

Did Michael Harney break his leg in a challenge game the other night?

Does this mean that clubs can stop paying this ridiculous levy which was forced upon clubs( but not all clubs are paying) and concentrate on trying to keep their own clubs afloat. Not every club has the luxury of big sponsors and have to struggle day to day to provide the best possible facilities for their players. But to turn around and then give that hard earned money to a county board that couldn't manage their own funds is an insult. If clubs ran their finances that way they would have no one to bail them out.
The signs are worrying again with the expenses for all teams rising. When will they learn to cut their cloth accordingly. If the money raised through the levy was removed would they still show a surplus?

cobo exceptionally lucky in got an extra 80 grand out of league due to replay , and a good run in the u21s senior spending balooned ad the various supporters clubs threw in an extra hard earned 15k still a deficit of 150k i think and need to clear that the legend of davy lives on , i think only dublin or cork can afford him .

without the leaue replay be looking at a 30k deficit , will need ot tighten senior spending ,maybe a reduction but not out of the woods yet

So 2016 drawing to a close, what are peoples highlights/lowlights of the year gone by?

The lowlight for me has to be the defeat to Tipp in the Munster final in Limerick. An awful day. Terrible weather, terrible performance. It really was a sinking feeling after that game.

The high point was over the following few weeks and how the u21 lads responded, bulldozing their way through the Munster championship first against Clare and that mesmerising display against Tipp in Walsh Park in the Munster final. By the time we were up against KK in the AI senior semi the ghosts of the Munster final had been well and truly banished. Unfortunately we couldn’t get over the line against them over the 2 games but we were pretty close.

Low points- League final replay loss, Munster final disaster, ****ing away the chance of beating Kilkenny in Croke Park and the semi final replay defeat

High points- Under 21 Munster and All ireland success, getting to a League Final for the second year in a row, going toe to toe with Kilkenny, players such as Austin Gleeson (had a dream year, only thing missing were senior AI and Munster medels), Jamie Barron, Stephen/Shane Bennett, Patrick Curran and Pauric Mahony among others having fantastic years

    hopefully 2017 will bring memories

High point hammering tipp in the munster u21 final.
Also the performance in the drawn game with kk was both a high and low point

Never before I had I seen waterford perform so well and not win....was delighted they went out and proved they are as good as what's out there on their day (shouldve won that day imo)

But was absolutely heart broken leaving croke park

Some legend. A good insight into the county and club scene and his personal highs and lows. A page-turner.

I'm enjoying the book but probably won't be of much interest to your general hurling fan outside of Waterford. Not enough insight into his battles on the field which is a shame. More of a general commentary of the team were playing well and we won or we played bad and we lost
